Senior Software Engineer, Storage - Distributed Caching

DoorDash USA•San Francisco, California, New York, New York, Seattle, Washington•Full-time
View Job
Compensation$90K - 150K a year

Own and scale distributed caching and locking services ensuring reliability and performance at large scale. | 6+ years designing and operating distributed stateful systems with 2+ years in caching or key-value storage and proficiency in Go, Java, or Kotlin. | About the Team The Storage organization builds and operates the online stateful systems and abstractions that DoorDash Engineering depends on: reliable, efficient, secure, and easy to use. Within Storage, the Distributed Caching team owns every caching offering at DoorDash end to end, including ElastiCache (Redis/Valkey), Boulder (our KVRocks-based key-value store for high-QPS feature serving), Entity Cache (read Bill Shen’s engineering blog post, “High-Performance Proxy Cache for DoorDash Services”), and the Distributed Lock Service, plus the smart clients (asgard-redis, valkey-go) that sit in front of them. These systems back critical product surfaces across DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo: the team runs roughly 400 ElastiCache clusters serving hundreds of millions of GET requests per second in aggregate, and Boulder, our offline-to-online feature store, serves billions of feature lookups per second at peak. About the Role The team owns provisioning of clusters and the smart clients that sit in front of them, baking in sensible defaults so that other engineering teams get a turnkey caching solution instead of having to run their own. You'll help drive Boulder's evolution to scale further, improve cost efficiency, enhance performance, and support real-time updates; re-platform the Distributed Lock Service onto a strongly consistent backend; and build the self-serve tooling and recommendation engine that let customers describe a workload (QPS, TTL, payload size, latency profile) and get the right backend without talking to a human. You'll go deep on cache invalidation, replication, sharding, compaction, and failover, while shipping the guardrails, automation, and observability that keep this scale operable by a small team. You must be located in San Francisco, Seattle, or the New York Metro Area for this hybrid position. You will report to the Engineering Manager on the Distributed Caching team within the Storage organization. You’re excited about this opportunity because you will… Own high-leverage caching and locking services with direct, measurable customer impact: cost, latency, and reliability at multi million QPS scale. Build and scale Boulder, our KVRocks backed key-value store, including compaction, sharding, and domain isolation. Re-platform the Distributed Lock Service onto a strongly consistent backend with sharding Contribute to the standardized smart caching client that bakes in failover, retry, and observability defaults so customers don't have to think about them. Diagnose and resolve production issues that span cache invalidation storms, replication lag, hot shards, and noisy-neighbor contention, then turn each one into a durable guardrail rather than a one-off fix. Collaborate closely with the teams that build on top of caching, including Taulu, ML Platform, and product engineering across DoorDash, Wolt, and Deliveroo. We’re excited about you because… You have 6+ years of full-time experience designing, building, and operating distributed, stateful systems in production, at least 2 of which involved caching or key-value storage at meaningful scale. You are proficient in Go, or Java/Kotlin with deep expertise in concurrency, distributed systems, and production-grade backend services. You have hands-on experience with distributed caching technologies (Redis/Valkey, Memcached, or similar) and understand their failure modes: replication lag, failover, hot keys, and cache invalidation. You understand distributed systems fundamentals: consistency models, sharding and partitioning, replication, and consensus, and can reason about their trade-offs from first principles. You have built or operated systems that require careful capacity planning and cost discipline at scale, and you default to right-sizing over over-provisioning. You thrive in an execution-driven environment with a broad ownership area and a proven track record of shipping reliable infrastructure end to end. You have proficiency in using AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) in the full software development lifecycle, including designing, generating code, testing, monitoring, and releasing software. Preferred Hands-on experience with ElastiCache, Memcached, or Valkey in production. Experience with KVRocks or RocksDB-family embedded storage engines (TiKV or similar), including compaction tuning and back-pressure handling. Experience building or operating a distributed lock service. Experience with Kubernetes and general cloud infrastructure operations. Contributions to open-source caching, storage, or distributed systems projects. Compensation The successful candidate’s starting pay will fall within the pay range listed below and is determined based on job-related factors including, but not limited to, skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Base salary is localized according to an employee’s work location. Ranges are market-dependent and may be modified in the future. In addition to base salary, the compensation for this role includes opportunities for equity grants. Talk to your recruiter for more information. DoorDash cares about you and your overall well-being. That’s why we offer a comprehensive benefits package to all regular employees, which includes a 401(k) plan with employer matching, 16 weeks of paid parental leave, wellness benefits, commuter benefits match, paid time off and paid sick leave in compliance with applicable laws (e.g. Colorado Healthy Families and Workplaces Act). Kard Financial, Inc.

Senior Software Engineer II, Customer Experience

Kard Financial, Inc.•Anywhere•Full-time
View Job
Compensation$85K - 130K a year

Architect and build scalable services, own features end-to-end, participate in on-call rotations, mentor engineers, and improve system reliability. | Expert programming in Go or TypeScript, experience with distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, database management, technical leadership, and collaborative engineering. | Kard is building commerce media infrastructure that connects financial institutions, financial-services platforms, and merchants through data and merchant-funded rewards. As our reach expands, we are building for a step-change in scale, and for opportunities ranging from more relevant rewards and marketer intelligence to new commerce and distribution models. About the Role The Customer Experience (CX) team owns the systems that power Kard's end-to-end rewards experience: transaction matching and the cellar pipeline, offer ingestion and delivery (including partner integrations like Rewards Network and SEATED), the cell-based routing architecture, and the Support API that keeps our internal and partner-facing tooling running. As a Senior Software Engineer II, you'll operate at the center of this — designing and building the services that ingest, match, and settle transactions at scale, while helping the team raise its bar on operational readiness, testing, and documentation. This role reports into the CX engineering team, with a strong focus on our issuer and partner-facing surface area, working alongside Support, Design, and Product through Kard's Shape Up-based pitch cycle. You'll drive pitches end-to-end, participate in on-call, and help the team keep pace with a fast-growing transaction volume and issuer surface. Responsibilities Architect and build scalable services across transaction matching, the cellar pipeline, and offer ingestion — new work defaults to Go and Postgres; existing services are a mix of TypeScript and MongoDB. Own features end-to-end through Kard's Shape Up cycle: discovery, pitch writing, implementation, testing, and production rollout, including a written launch/rollback plan for anything touching transaction or offer data. Actively participate in on-call, incident response, and IOC (interrupt/on-call) triage; drive root-cause fixes rather than one-off patches (e.g., ingestion validation gaps, UID/timestamp mismatches, Datadog alert coverage). Strengthen our issuer/client-facing APIs and SDKs — reliability, clarity, and self-service — so partners and Support can resolve more issues independently, reducing engineering escalations. Lead by example: make decisive technical calls and foster collaboration across Product, Design, and Engineering to keep the team moving toward CX's strategic goals. Champion enhancements to our tech stack, methodologies, and standards — authentication, rate limiting, deployment, observability, error handling, and test coverage (unit, integration, end-to-end) — with an eye toward resilience, agility, and quality, not just shipping speed. Mentor engineers, contribute to design and architecture discussions, and help the team consolidate or deprecate legacy/overlapping services rather than letting them accumulate. Write clear documentation and playbooks (local dev setup, deployment, troubleshooting) so ownership doesn't stay concentrated with one or two people. Desired Skills Expert programming skills in Go and/or TypeScript, with experience building scalable, secure, high-performance backend services. Solid experience with distributed systems, event-driven architectures (SQS, Temporal), and both relational and document databases (Postgres and MongoDB). Proficiency with AWS and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform), including container technologies (Kubernetes/EKS) and serverless components (Lambda). Experience working on transaction-processing, matching, or ingestion pipelines where correctness and idempotency matter. Comfort leading a technical project from discovery through production rollout, including writing clear specs and driving cross-team collaboration (e.g., with Support, Data, or partner integration teams). Skilled with agentic software development — using AI tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex) to plan and implement complex features, not just autocomplete — while still owning the design and quality of the result. Commitment to fostering an inclusive, collaborative engineering culture. U.S. core business hours availability and willingness to travel for company meetings. Bonus Points Experience with card-linked offers, loyalty, fintech, or another transaction-intensive marketplace. Experience with partner data ingestion (file-based or API) and the validation/monitoring needed to run it reliably in production. Familiarity with Cognito-based auth, API gateway enforcement (e.g., Envoy), or claims-based authorization. Experience with Databricks or a similar data platform, and with migrating services from a legacy stack (e.g., Databricks to Postgres/Lakebase) without disrupting production. Contributions to the tech community or open-source projects. Past success in startup settings, and a track record of empathy, collaboration, and productivity in remote work. Compensation United States: $160,000 - $190,000 USD Argentina: $120,000 - $140,000 USD Why Join: Kard recognizes the unique value each of us brings to our collective success. As part of our remote-first team, you'll have the autonomy to influence our trajectory, actively contributing to the growth of our business and the evolution of our company culture. By embodying our core values of Initiative, Openness, and Humility, you will not only witness but directly foster an inclusive and dynamic work environment, from the executive level down. Our competitive benefit plan includes: Flexible PTO, with a minimum requirement to take one day off a quarter, ten days a year, promoting mental well-being Observance of 11 Federal Holidays, plus an additional day each for Black Friday and Christmas Eve (US employees only) Health, Dental and Vision Insurance 401k with employer match (US employees only) Coworking space and WFH setup reimbursement Company Offsites for planning, team-building, and networking Kard is an equal opportunity employer and we actively encourage applicants of all genders, backgrounds, and experiences to apply. We believe that diverse perspectives enrich our workplace and drive our success.
