Expect to get together quarterly for intense in-person working sessions called “surges.” learn more about working at Coinbase. We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the CB Node team within the Platform organization. This team runs all the blockchain nodes that power every asset Coinbase offers to customers, currently spanning 55 unique protocols across Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, and beyond. You'll focus on performance optimization and reliability across the blockchain platform stack, diagnosing root causes instead of over-provisioning, reducing infrastructure spend, and building the observability and health-check systems that keep our nodes reliable at scale. What you'll do: Own deep performance analysis and optimization across the blockchain node stack, diagnosing root causes of resource consumption and implementing system-level fixes that reduce infrastructure spend while maintaining reliability SLOs. Build observability, health-check, and automated failover capabilities for blockchain nodes, ensuring the team can detect degradation and respond proactively rather than reactively scaling resources. Drive a right-sizing initiative across the node fleet, profiling workloads, identifying over-provisioned instances, and establishing capacity models that balance cost efficiency with headroom for reliability. Partner with protocol integration engineers, wallet teams, and indexer teams to extend performance improvements across the full blockchain platform stack, not just the node layer. Lead the definition and implementation of SLOs and SLIs for node services, creating the measurement framework that gives the team confidence in reliability without relying on over-provisioning. Support protocol upgrades and node operations with a performance-first lens, ensuring new blockchain versions are validated for resource efficiency and regression-tested before production rollout. Required Skills and Experience: 5+ years of experience in software engineering with deep expertise in systems-level performance analysis, profiling, and optimization of production infrastructure. Hands-on experience operating distributed systems at scale, including diagnosing resource bottlenecks, tuning service performance, and managing capacity across heterogeneous workloads. Proficiency in backend programming (Go preferred) and systems tooling for profiling, tracing, and observability (e.g., pprof, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana). Track record of reducing infrastructure costs through engineering optimization rather than simply scaling resources, with measurable outcomes (e.g., cost reduction percentage, latency improvements). Experience with blockchain nodes, consensus protocols, or crypto infrastructure is strongly preferred; familiarity with how different protocols behave under load and during upgrades. Utilizes generative AI responsibly, maintaining human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality. Design and scale platform for managed agents focusing on session management, orchestration, and high-performance APIs. | 8+ years backend/distributed systems experience with strong API design and product sense. | About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems. About the role We are looking for experienced backend and distributed systems engineers to join the Agentic Systems team within our Platform organization. Agentic Systems builds Claude Managed Agents: the hosted platform for building, running, and scaling production agents on Claude. Instead of every developer hand-rolling an agent loop, sandboxed execution, state management, credential handling, and error recovery — and reworking all of it with every model release — Managed Agents pairs an Anthropic-built agent harness with production infrastructure for sessions, environments, tools, memory, and permissions, exposed through a small set of composable APIs designed to stay stable as models and harnesses evolve. It powers agentic products inside Anthropic as well as those built by customers on the Claude Platform. Managed Agents is in public beta and growing quickly, and this is still an early team with a lot of surface area left to define. You'll drive 0 → 1 efforts from ideation through GA, own systems end to end from API design through operations, and partner closely with product, research, developer experience, and go-to-market teams to figure out what "managed" should mean for the next generation of agents. You should be comfortable going deep on hard distributed systems problems, care about APIs as a product in their own right, and be motivated by turning ambiguous ideas into high-quality, shipped platform capabilities that other engineers build their products on. What you'll do Scale the platform. Managed Agents runs long-lived, stateful sessions that execute autonomously for minutes or hours/days, persist through disconnections, and resume cleanly — across Anthropic-hosted sandboxes, self-hosted environments on customer infrastructure, and other clouds. You'll design and operate the systems underneath that: durable session and event storage, sandbox orchestration, streaming, scheduling, and multi-tenant isolation. Reliability, latency, and cost efficiency are product features here, and you'll own them in production. Evolve the harness — and prove it with evals. The harness is the loop that calls Claude, routes tool calls, manages context (caching, compaction, memory), and recovers from errors. Harnesses encode assumptions about what the model can't yet do on its own, and those assumptions go stale as models improve. You'll work alongside research to revisit them with each model generation, build the eval infrastructure that measures harness quality against research baselines and real customer workloads, and hold the bar that lets us say our harness gets the most out of Claude. Help builders get the most out of Claude. Our customers — internal and external — are building agents both as products for their users and to transform their own operations. You'll ship the capabilities that raise the ceiling on what those agents can do: outcome-driven execution where developers specify success criteria and a budget and Claude iterates until it gets there, multi-agent orchestration, memory, and the observability and tracing that make long-running agents debuggable. The goal is the highest intelligence per dollar of any agent platform, delivered safely. Design APIs that outlast their implementations. Agents, environments, sessions, vaults, and event streams are interfaces thousands of developers build against and that our own products depend on. You'll shape those primitives — versioning, ergonomics across API, SDK, and CLI, sensible defaults, escape hatches — with the expectation that the implementations underneath will change many times while the contracts hold. You might be a good fit if you: Have a minimum of 8 years of practical experience as a backend, distributed systems, or infrastructure engineer Have built and operated stateful, long-running, or high-throughput systems in production — workflow orchestration, streaming, storage, container or job orchestration — and can reason rigorously about durability, consistency, failure modes, and cost Have strong product sense and treat API design as a craft; you care about the developer on the other side of the interface and can ideate and execute product strategy with cross-functional partners in new domains Are excited by 0 → 1 work and comfortable navigating ambiguity, and have ideally operated in both early-stage and more mature team or company settings Use Claude or other AI tools as a core part of how you build software, and have opinions about what makes an agent harness good Take full ownership of your work — from design through build, deployment, and operations (including on-call), to iterating on and improving what you ship Care about building systems that other engineers and businesses love to use, and about doing so safel Strong candidates may also have: Built or contributed to an agent harness, agent framework, or LLM orchestration layer — tool execution, context management, memory, or multi-agent coordination Worked on an AI or ML platform (model serving, inference infrastructure, developer tooling) at an AI lab or an AI-native product company, or led adoption of AI-driven development inside an engineering organization Built evaluation or benchmarking infrastructure for LLM or agent systems Experience with durable execution or workflow engines, sandboxed code execution, or container runtimes Shipped public developer platforms, APIs, or SDKs used by external developers at scale Deadline to apply: None. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Location Preference: Preference will be given to candidates based in NY, SEA, SF or the Bay Area given the current location of team. The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. Annual Salary: $405,000—$485,000 USD Logistics Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices. Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this. We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed. Research shows that people who identify as being from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy, so we urge you not to exclude yourself prematurely and to submit an application if you're interested in this work. We think AI systems like the ones we're building have enormous social and ethical implications. We think this makes representation even more important, and we strive to include a range of diverse perspectives on our team. Your safety matters to us. To protect yourself from potential scams, remember that Anthropic recruiters only contact you from @anthropic.com email addresses. In some cases, we may partner with vetted recruiting agencies who will identify themselves as working on behalf of Anthropic. Be cautious of emails from other domains. Legitimate Anthropic recruiters will never ask for money, fees, or banking information before your first day. If you're ever unsure about a communication, don't click any links—visit anthropic.com/careers directly for confirmed position openings. How we're different We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills. The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences. Come work with us! Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues. Design, build, and own features across data infrastructure while collaborating cross-functionally and ensuring system reliability and security. | At least 5 years professional software engineering experience with strong C#/.NET skills, relational database design, and Agile environment experience. | Job Summary At Level Data, we build the data infrastructure that K-12 education runs on. For twenty years, our platforms have connected the disparate systems inside schools and state agencies - student information, educator credentials, special programs, instructional spend - into a single reliable picture that leaders can act on. Our software supports more than 1,800 districts and 20 state agencies across 48+ states, touching the educational experience of over 7 million students. Our fully remote team of engineers, data specialists, and former educators build products that reduce administrative burden and turn fragmented education data into evidence for smarter decisions. The Engineering organization delivers the systems state education agencies depend on to manage their educator workforce and oversee the districts they serve. We build at the state level, where a single deployment carries every educator record, every district submission, and every compliance deadline in the state - which means reliability, auditability, and the security of sensitive personnel and student data are engineering requirements, not afterthoughts. Our platforms are how states respond to educator shortages at scale, keep credentialing current as requirements shift, and maintain visibility into district performance. This role is on the Talent team, which delivers teacher licensure and credentialing, district and school accreditation, statewide teacher evaluation aligned to state frameworks, and talent transparency through our statewide educator job board. The team owns the workflows that move an educator from application to classroom, and the reporting that gives agencies confidence in the quality and completeness of what's underneath. The Senior Software Engineer will report to the Software Engineering Manager. What You'll Do: * Serve as the technical standard bearer for the team, setting the quality bar through your own contributions and code reviews and holding the team to it as we scale across new state deployments. * Design, build, and own features end to end across a C#/.NET and SQL Server core, extending into React and Node (TypeScript) with Postgres on our newer products. * Break down large or ambiguous technical problems into approachable chunks the team can execute against, partnering with your Product Owner to sequence the work against roadmap commitments and state compliance deadlines. * Develop deep knowledge of the team's technical estate, including the integrations that move educator, district, and evaluation data between state systems, and understand how the pieces fit together. * Act as a technical resource across the team, unblocking teammates and keeping delivery moving without becoming a bottleneck yourself. * Collaborate multi-functionally with Product, Customer Success, and go-to-market partners, hearing customer problems firsthand and bringing an engineering perspective to what we should build, not only how we should build it. * Proactively find opportunities for optimization and efficiency across the systems you own, improving availability, performance, and the day-to-day experience of the agencies who depend on them * Contribute to estimation and planning, voicing recommendations, feedback, and solutions from a technical perspective and aligning to overall project goals to deliver on time and in scope. * Participate fully as a member of a self-managing Scrum team, committing to delivery alongside your teammates and sharing in team responsibilities including production support. Required Qualifications: * Minimum 5 years of professional software engineering experience. * Sustained history of owning a complex codebase, ora track recordof moving effectively between codebases, or a strong balance of the two. * Strong computer science fundamentals-algorithms, data structures, and coding fluency-withdemonstrateddepth in a modern web stack. * Deep hands-on experience with C# and .NET, including ASP.NET web applications and backend service development. * Workingproficiencyin JavaScript/TypeScript and a modern front-end framework. * Strong relational database skills, including schema designand data modeling inSQL Server,Postgres,or comparable systems. * Working knowledge of a major public cloudprovider;we build in Azure, and AWS or Google Cloud experience translates well. * Experience delivering at pace in an Agile team environment, including source control, CI/CD, automated testing, and production support. * Ability to break down any technical problem into discrete steps as part of a credible solution plan, and to guide teammates toward solutions with questions rather than answers. * A collaborator who believes in communal ownership of the work, shares knowledge freely, and helps others rise to the standard they set Preferred Qualifications: * Experience working across both greenfield and legacy codebases, with comfort modernizing systems incrementally rather than by rewrite. * Demonstrated history of mentoring engineers and raising the technical bar on a team. * Experience applying AI/GenAI tooling to increase development and support efficiency. * Above-average written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain a technical tradeoff to a Product Owner or a customer without flattening it or burying them in it. * Genuine curiosity about the customer's problem and the business behind it, and a desire to work closely with the people closest to both.
