Design and build scalable backend services and APIs, lead technical strategy, and mentor engineering teams. | 8+ years backend development, platform and API design expertise, data integrations experience, technical leadership, and systems thinking at scale. | At Vanta, our mission is to help businesses earn and prove trust. We believe that security should be monitored and verified continuously, and we empower companies to practice better security and prove it with ease. Vanta has a kind and talented team, and while some have prior security experience, many have been successful at Vanta without it. Our Senior Software Engineers lead and mentor engineers, delivering high-value products for our customers and infrastructure that enables our business to scale. Vanta's team and technology surface are growing quickly, and it's essential that we invest in the right abstractions and systems to enable us to scale with our business. As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll be responsible for setting technical direction to enable our product and infrastructure to scale with our business, driving complex projects across our technical stack, and mentoring our talented engineering team. Your past experience will be leveraged to enable and accelerate Vanta's growth. Our business has found incredible product-market fit and has monetized effectively since the day we signed our first customer. We're growing at a blistering pace, which presents career-defining opportunities for engineers to accelerate their growth and to contribute to a rapidly-scaling company. Visit our Vanta Engineering Blog to learn more about what our team is working on! The Integrations Platform team mission is to power the world's largest trust automation ecosystem, enabling any person or agent to build, connect, and automate trust seamlessly. We own Vanta's integration ecosystem, which currently includes over 400 integrations across Cloud Providers (AWS, Azure, GCP), Identity Providers, Mobile Device Management (MDM), and Human Resources Information System (HRIS). We are focused on developing the Integration Platform. This includes creating shared primitives for authentication, lifecycle, observability, and publishing to ensure all integrations are built on the same foundation. Our North Star is to eliminate the barrier to building integrations entirely. We aim to enable anyone to create an integration in minutes using declarative, low-code, and no-code patterns, supercharged by AI Agents. What you'll do as a Senior Software Engineer at Vanta: • Set technical strategy and direction for critical platform surface areas, staying ahead of rapid growth. • Design and evolve the APIs, primitives, and self-service golden paths that internal teams, partners, and customers build on. • Own the authentication, data-ingestion, and schema-evolution primitives that keep integrations with external systems secure and reliable at scale. • Build secure, well-documented, scalable backend services and developer tooling (including CI/CD) that propel engineering productivity. • Drive performance, operational excellence, and SDLC best practices; make and defend buy-vs-build and one-way-door decisions. • Act as a force multiplier: mentor and uplevel teammates, and set the design patterns the team standardizes on. • Build with TypeScript, React, and Node.js, and use AI tools to accelerate development and workflows. How to be successful in this role: • 8+ years of backend development building reliable, scalable, fault-tolerant systems. • Platform and API design: you've evolved core APIs, SDKs, and platform abstractions, with deep expertise in RESTful APIs, GraphQL, authentication protocols (OAuth, API keys, JWT), and security best practices. • Data Integrations: you've built resilient data ingestion from external systems, including integrations with cloud providers, HRIS platforms, identity providers, and code repositories. You champion best practices such as rate limiting, retries and idempotency, webhooks, and handling schema drift. • Systems thinking at scale: you design for scale, reliability and failure modes. You look around corners and proactively identify and address risk. • Technical leadership and cross-team influence: you've led teams and complex projects, and influenced decisions across the organization. • Internal Enablement and Evangelism: you build sample integrations, POCs, AI Skills, documentation, and workshops to help internal engineering teams onboard quickly to the platform. Bonus: startup or bias-for-action environments, greenfield work, multi-region or Gov deployments, and prior experience in security or compliance products. • Open to using AI to amplify their skills and strengthen their work - demonstrating curiosity, a willingness to learn, and sound judgment in applying AI responsibly to improve efficiency and impact. What you can expect as a Vanta'n: • Industry-competitive salary and equity • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, with 100% of employee-only benefit premiums covered for most medical plans • 16 weeks fully-paid Parental Leave for all new parents • Health & wellness stipend • Remote workspace, internet, and cellphone stipend • Commuter benefits for team members who report to the SF and NYC office • Family planning benefits • Matching 401(k) contribution with immediate vesting • Flexible PTO policy, plus 80 hours of Sick Time • 11 company-paid holidays • Virtual team building activities, lunch and learns, and other company-wide events! • Offices in SF, NYC, London, Dublin, Tel Aviv, and Sydney To provide greater transparency to candidates, we share base pay ranges for all US-based job postings regardless of state. We set standard base pay ranges for all roles based on function, level, and country location, benchmarked against similar-stage growth companies. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors and may vary based on candidate location, skills, depth of work experience, and relevant licenses/credentials. #LI-remote At Vanta, we are committed to hiring diverse talent of different backgrounds and as such, it is important to us to provide an inclusive work environment for all. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, gender identity, age, religion, sexual orientation, veteran or disability status, or any other protected class. As an equal opportunity employer, we encourage and welcome people of all backgrounds to apply. About Vanta We started in 2018, in the wake of several high-profile data breaches. Online security was only becoming more important, but we knew firsthand how hard it could be for fast-growing companies to invest the time and manpower it takes to build a solid security foundation. Vanta was inspired by a vision to restore trust in internet businesses by enabling companies to improve and prove their security. From our early days automating security monitoring for compliance standards like SOC 2, HIPAA and ISO 27001 to creating the world's leading Trust Management Platform, our vision remains unchanged. Now more than ever, making security continuous-not just a point-in-time check- is essential. Thousands of companies rely on Vanta to build, maintain and demonstrate their trust- all in a way that's real-time and transparent. If you’re passionate about tackling meaningful challenges alongside talented team members committed to helping each other succeed, all while having lots of fun, we want to hear from you. We offer competitive benefits and salaries, personal and professional development opportunities, flexibility, and much more! We are looking for a Sr. Software Engineer who wants to contribute to the future of the Automate platform. You will design and build new capabilities on a mature, widely deployed .NET product, execute on technical work that keeps it healthy, and help set the standard for how the rest of the team works. That means delivering excellent code as well as mentoring, reviewing, teaching, and helping the team adopt AI tools effectively. This is a full-time, fully remote role on a distributed team. Automate is a no-code/low code Automation (RPA) platform that lets IT and business teams automate complex workflows without the need for engineering resources or development backgrounds. With more than 700 pre-built automation actions and deployment options ranging from a single desktop to the full enterprise, we serve organizations across a broad range of industries including highly regulated fields such financial services, healthcare, and manufacturing, where on-premises deployment and data security are not negotiable. WHAT YOU'LL DO Build and maintain Execute on the development of new platform capabilities, translating Product requirements into implementation, test, and release plans. This includes writing technical specifications that turn a product requirement into a design the team can build against. Identify and evaluate new technologies where appropriate, including AI capabilities that become part of the product itself Work across a large .NET and C# codebase spanning the desktop client, server components, and the database layer Diagnose and fix complex defects that cross component boundaries, including issues reported by customers running in production Keep pace with the foundational application work that is not optional: runtime and framework upgrades, dependency and security remediation, and the platform health that keeps the product supportable. Participate fully in the development lifecycle, from design through release Team Impact Mentor less experienced engineers through pairing, code review, and direct feedback Raise the standard for code reviews: catch and articulate problems when they arise, and explain the reasoning so the lesson sticks Serve as technical expert on projects and lead them when needed, including breaking work down, sequencing it, and keeping progress visible Help set the standard: contribute to the conventions, patterns, and quality gates the team builds against, and make the reasoning clear enough that people follow them by choice Track and document technical trade-offs and implementation decisions, so the reasoning behind the system survives the people who made it Speak up early when something is going to be late, is riskier than it first looked, or is being built the wrong way Help us use AI well Use AI coding tools in your daily work and help the team do the same, with a clear view of where they help and where they do not Treat AI-generated code as unverified until it has been reviewed and tested. We want engineers who can tell the difference between code that looks right and code that is right Share what works: prompts, patterns, guardrails, and review practices that make the team faster without lowering quality Help shape our engineering practice as these tools evolve, including where AI belongs in testing, documentation, and code review, and where it does not QUALIFICATIONS 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with deep hands-on .NET and C# work, including both .NET Framework 4.8 and modern .NET Strong grasp of object-oriented design, design patterns, and modern software engineering practices Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server, including complex queries, stored procedures, and performance tuning Experience with full stack, on-premises software delivery, where you cannot push a fix in an hour and the customer controls the upgrade Experience on large, long-lived, complex codebases Experience writing unit tests, and a point of view on what makes a test worth keeping Git, dependency injection, and working knowledge of Agile delivery Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and build and release tooling, ideally including GitLab A track record of mentoring other engineers, whether or not you have held a formal lead title Excellent written and verbal communication in English, and comfort working across time zones on a distributed team Practical experience using AI coding assistants on production work, and the judgment to know when not to Compensation: 120,000 USD - 165,000 USD At Fortra, we’re breaking the attack chain.
