About the Job: The Business Intelligence department is looking for a Senior Business Analyst (Systems) with a curious, systems-focused mindset on uncovering, documenting, and connecting the Authority’s application landscape to support smarter, more coordinated decisions. This role exists at a pivotal moment, as the organization works to preserve institutional knowledge and bring clarity to a complex environment of enterprise and legacy systems. This position sits at the intersection of Business Intelligence and Information Technology & Services, bridging system understanding, data awareness, and business process clarity across the organization. This position serves as a central point of insight into how systems are used today—taking inventory of applications, understanding how they interact, and documenting where critical data lives. By asking thoughtful questions and translating fragmented, person-dependent knowledge into clear, usable documentation, this role helps the organization build shared, repeatable understanding of its technology environment. That understanding directly supports stronger decision-making across the Authority. By reviewing RFPs and vendor proposals through a systems-awareness lens and developing an understanding of system data structures, data quality, and system relationships, the Senior Business Analyst helps identify overlapping functionality, reduce duplication, improve data integrity, and ensure existing tools are fully understood before new solutions are pursued. While the role works closely with other Business Intelligence disciplines and supports more reliable reporting, it is focused on business process documentation, sustainable system maintenance, and systems analysis and does not include report development, dashboarding, or routine data visualization responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be a student of the business—analytical, inquisitive, and resourceful, with the organizational awareness to ask the right questions at the right time. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across departments, build foundational knowledge that outlasts individual projects, and leave behind clarity that strengthens how the Authority operates well into the future. What You’ll Do: • Systems Inventory & Documentation: Identifies, documents, and maintains an inventory of enterprise and legacy systems, including system purpose, ownership, integrations, and key dependencies. • Systems Analysis & Alignment: Analyzes how applications, integrations, and processes work together to support operational, compliance, and business needs; identifies gaps, overlaps, and opportunities for improvement. • Data Structure & Quality Awareness: Develops an understanding of system data structures, data flows, and data quality considerations to support reliable reporting, integration, and long-term system sustainability. • Requirements & Process Support: Gathers and documents business and system requirements, process flows, and use cases to support system enhancements, replacements, or integration efforts. • Testing & Validation Support: Coordinates and supports user acceptance testing (UAT) and validation activities to ensure system changes meet documented business and technical requirements. • Vendor & RFP Review Support: Reviews RFI/RFP documentation and vendor proposals to assess functional overlap, alignment with existing systems, and potential impacts to data, integrations, and maintenance. • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partners with ITS, Business Intelligence, and departmental stakeholders to share system knowledge, validate findings, and promote consistent understanding across the organization. • Knowledge Preservation: Translates institutional and historical system knowledge into clear, repeatable documentation to reduce reliance on tribal knowledge and support continuity as staff and systems evolve. • Standards & Continuous Improvement: Contributes to the development and refinement of documentation standards, templates, and practices that support consistent systems analysis and information sharing. The Skills You Need: • Business Process Knowledge — Identifies, documents, and analyzes business and system-related processes to understand current-state operations, dependencies, and opportunities for improvement. • Analytical & Systems Thinking — Applies structured, analytical thinking to understand complex system environments, identify patterns, surface gaps or overlaps, and support informed decision-making. • Communication — Clearly and tactfully communicates complex information verbally and in writing; translates technical and system concepts into language appropriate for diverse audiences. • Relationship Building & Influence — Builds effective working relationships across departments; gains cooperation and input through credibility, curiosity, and collaboration rather than positional authority. • Project & Change Support — Supports project activities by coordinating requirements, documentation, testing, and stakeholder inputs; contributes to change efforts through clear communication and user-focused documentation. • Technology Awareness & Application — Demonstrates working knowledge of enterprise systems and digital tools; uses system understanding to support data integrity, operational efficiency, and thoughtful technology evaluation. About the Team: At the Airport Authority, the Business Intelligence Department is where data takes flight. They build the infrastructure, analytics, and reporting tools that turn complexity into clarity by helping leaders make smarter, faster decisions across more than 40 business and operational systems. Every dashboard, dataset, and data model bring the organization closer to its goal: a truly data-driven airport experience. The Data Warehousing & ETL team sits at the heart of this transformation. They’re not maintaining what’s been built, they’re building what’s next. With AWS powering the cloud, Snowflake as the data warehouse, and Power BI as the visualization tool of choice, this team designs scalable pipelines that connect a constantly evolving data landscape. Collaborative, curious, and endlessly inventive, they’re creating the platform that fuels automation, innovation, and insight across SAN and beyond. The Experience You Need to Have**: • Five years of professional experience in business analysis, process improvement, systems implementation, or in a related field such as business intelligence, information systems, project coordination, operations, quality assurance, or technical writing, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Business Administration, Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a closely related field. Preferred Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements: • Designation in Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP), Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA), Project Management Professional (PMP), Associate Certified Analytics Professional (aCAP), The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI) certifications, Agile or Scrum certifications (e.g., Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), SAFe), Microsoft Power BI certification, Tableau certification, Certified Business Intelligence Professional (CBIP), Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) is preferred. • Knowledge of Master Data Management (MDM) principles and practices. • Experience in the aviation industry, airport or transportation operations is preferred. • *Don’t meet every requirement? That’s okay. At San Diego International Airport, we value your unique experience and your willingness to learn. Some roles require specific qualifications or degrees, but others don’t—and we're always open to individuals committed to growth and excellence. If this sounds like you, we encourage you to apply.
