Learn more at bonterratech.com. About the Role We are seeking a Principal Product Manager, CSR to lead the evolution of Bonterra’s Corporate Social Responsibility products. This role is for a product leader who is deeply customer-problem obsessed, technically fluent, and energized by how AI is reshaping product management and software development itself. You will own complex, high-leverage product areas that sit at the intersection of corporate customers, nonprofit partners, and end users. You will bring an AI-first lens to how products are conceived, built, and evolved - designing systems with great defaults, that learn from users, and that can be customized to meet the unique needs of each organization, without sacrificing scalability. This is not a role for someone who wants to ship features in isolation. This is a role for someone who wants to build durable platforms, make long-lasting technology decisions in partnership with engineering, and measurably improve outcomes for customers and the social good sector at large. In this role, you will: Own the business and customer outcomes for a defined set of CSR product capabilities, with end-to-end accountability from discovery through delivery, adoption, and measurable business impact. Set and execute product strategy for your portfolio, balancing customer value, platform scalability, and Bonterra’s growth objectives. Drive AI strategy for your product area, identifying where intelligence, automation, and adaptive systems can meaningfully improve outcomes for customers and internal teams. Operationalize AI responsibly, partnering with Engineering and Design to ship capabilities with strong defaults, clear user control, and trust-worthy behaviour. Make durable, high-leverage product decisions in close partnership with Engineering, including difficult trade-offs between speed, quality, and long-term scalability. Represent product leadership at a senior level, shaping how Bonterra invests in CSR technology and innovation. Responsibilities Product Strategy & Vision Define and own the long-term product vision for key CSR capabilities, grounded in real customer problems and aligned with Bonterra’s mission and business objectives. Apply an AI-native mindset to product strategy - using AI to accelerate discovery, synthesis, and decision-making, and designing AI-powered experiences that create meaningful customer value. Identify where automation, intelligence, and adaptive systems can fundamentally change how CSR work is done, not just make existing workflows marginally better. Customer-Focused Discovery & Outcomes Engage deeply with customers and users to understand their goals, constraints, and moments of friction—turning insight into clear product bets. Define success in terms of outcomes (customer impact, adoption, business results), not just outputs. Continuously validate that what we build delivers real value in the hands of customers, and course-correct quickly when it doesn’t. Technical & Platform Leadership Partner closely with Engineering to make sound, scalable technology decisions that balance speed today with flexibility tomorrow. Drive the design of systems that have strong defaults, learn over time, and support configuration and extensibility without becoming brittle or bespoke. Translate complex technical concepts into clear product intent and trade-offs, enabling strong cross-functional alignment. Qualifications You are: AI-native in your product practice – You actively use AI to think better, move faster, and explore more possibilities, and you design products that responsibly leverage AI to solve real user problems. Customer-problem obsessed – You measure your success by the problems you eliminate, and the outcomes customers achieve, not by feature counts. Technically fluent – You can engage deeply with engineers on architecture, trade-offs, and long-term scalability, even if you don’t write production code. A systems thinker – You think beyond individual screens to platforms, workflows, and ecosystems. Mission-driven but pragmatic – You want to change the world, and you understand that durable impact requires focus, discipline, and strong execution. Experience that stands out: 8+ years of product management experience in SaaS, with experience owning complex, platform-oriented products. Exposure to AI-powered products or systems, with a thoughtful approach to where AI creates real value. Experience leveraging AI for your Product Manager workflows; discovery, prototyping, etc. Experience in CSR, ESG, social impact, or adjacent enterprise domains is a strong plus. You’ve successfully: Led a multi-quarter product initiative that materially improved customer adoption, retention, revenue, or operational efficiency. Made and stood behind difficult product trade-offs, balancing near-term delivery with long-term platform health. Shipped platform or foundational capabilities that enabled multiple downstream teams, workflows, or products. At Bonterra, we’re building AI-powered tools to solve real human challenges—and we want teammates who share that enthusiasm. We value people who will champion AI and bring diverse perspectives from different industries, backgrounds, and cultures. As an AI Lead Software Engineer, you will join an inclusive team that celebrates diverse backgrounds and expertise to address this critical need. You will help us build AI solutions that deliver services better and faster through workflow optimization, adaptive case management, and predictive analytics. Together, we will create agents that automate administrative burdens, reduce reporting time from hours to minutes, and enable data-driven insights—ultimately allowing social workers to focus their limited resources on what matters most: direct human connection with clients and communities. What You'll Do You will design and implement LLM-based agentic applications, run experiments, establish technical patterns for the team and mentor other engineers. You will write code 90%+ of the time and iterate with the frequency of a startup. This is what you can expect to do in this role: • Design and implement AI agents using LLMs, vector databases, orchestration frameworks and connect to external systems using MCP. • Define architectural patterns for prompt engineering, agent workflows, and system integration. • Build on AWS (Bedrock, Lambda, DynamoDB). • Establish and execute testing and evaluation strategies for non-deterministic AI systems. • Partner with product teams to scope and plan, interview customers to gather feedback and boost adoption. • Work directly with our Chief Architect and SVP of Engineering, they are both contributing code to our AI solutions. Requirements The technical experience that matters most to us includes: • Building and shipping code to production in "startup mode" - releasing frequently, incorporating user feedback, continuous refactoring to preserve code quality while moving fast. • Using AI-assisted development tools like Cursor, Windsurf or Claude Code. • Building and deploying LLM-based production systems, including MCP connectors and RAG solutions. • Experience with AI frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, etc.) or equivalent experience with complex software systems and eagerness to learn AI-specific tools. • AWS knowledge, particularly managed AI services. • Bonus points for: • Open source AI contributions. • Experience with AI evaluation and observability at scale. • Model training or fine-tuning This job does NOT have a "years of experience" requirement and not all requirements are mandatory: while we do expect software engineering experience with AI/ML systems and AWS, we value passion and curiosity about AI's transformative potential over years of experience, and that is why we are warmly encouraging you to apply even if you don't meet every qualification listed. Why Diverse Backgrounds Matter for This Role • Building AI tools for nonprofits isn't like building another SaaS dashboard. Social workers deal with complex, messy human problems that don't fit neat categories. If the entire engineering team comes from traditional tech companies, we're going to miss how these tools actually get used in the field. • Someone who's worked in healthcare understands compliance headaches and data sensitivity in ways that matter for case management systems. An engineer who's navigated government bureaucracy knows why workflow automation needs to account for bizarre edge cases and manual overrides. If you've worked at a startup that failed, you understand resource constraints that nonprofits face daily. • Different educational paths also matter - someone who studied social work before switching to engineering will spot usability problems that a CS-only background might miss. Engineers from non-tech industries often bring creative problem-solving approaches because they haven't been trained to think in the same patterns. • As we're building AI that impacts vulnerable populations, having people on the team who understand those communities - whether through personal experience, previous work, or different cultural backgrounds - helps us build tools that actually serve people instead of creating new barriers. It's not about checking boxes; it's about generating better outcomes.
