The environment is fast-moving, low-meeting, async-friendly, and especially well suited to engineers who enjoy technically difficult visualization problems and meaningful individual ownership. What's In Store For You • 100% remote working environment with an async-friendly, intentionally low-meeting culture. • 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity with the potential to transition into the permanent engineering organization. • Significant ownership across architecture, product decisions, implementation, optimization, and production delivery. • Opportunity to build sophisticated software connected to physical hardware and real-world telemetry. • Exposure to real-time visualization, analytics, spatial computing, high-frequency datasets, and emerging AI-assisted product capabilities. • Optional workspace access in Seattle, Washington and Atlanta, Georgia. • Upon permanent conversion, company-provided benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k), flexible PTO, and an equipment stipend. How You Will Make An Impact • Build a high-performance 2D/3D replay and visualization experience using Three.js, WebGL/WebGPU, and potentially react-three-fiber. • Reconstruct complex real-world events from telemetry and allow users to view them from multiple camera perspectives with smooth playback and frame-level navigation. • Develop the surrounding React and TypeScript product experience, including timelines, playback controls, camera systems, data overlays, and analytical interfaces. • Turn large telemetry datasets into meaningful insights, comparisons, and performance analytics. • Engineer applications that continuously render while remaining responsive across laptops and mobile devices. • Optimize rendering pipelines, interpolation, memory usage, application architecture, and data processing for high-frequency datasets. • Profile render loops, identify frame-time bottlenecks, reduce unnecessary draw calls, and improve overall rendering performance. • Build full-stack product features when required, including APIs, data pipelines, analytics capabilities, and AI-enabled functionality. • Translate technically accurate data into experiences that are clear, readable, and useful to real users. • Own technical problems from initial architecture through implementation, performance tuning, and production deployment. Do you bring proven success in real-time product engineering and visualization? • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial experience developing user-facing products. • Strong hands-on expertise with TypeScript and React. • Production browser-graphics experience using Three.js, react-three-fiber, WebGL, WebGPU, or comparable technologies. • Experience developing software that renders continuously and optimizing it for production performance. • Strong understanding of rendering performance concepts including frame budgets, render loops, draw calls, memory utilization, and frame-time diagnosis. • Strong data-visualization judgment, particularly involving time-series, telemetry, geospatial, or similarly complex datasets. • Ability to translate large or technically complex datasets into intuitive visual experiences. • Experience developing backend functionality using Go, TypeScript, Rust, or a comparable modern backend stack. • Strong product-engineering mindset with the ability to work across frontend, visualization, data, backend, and product boundaries. • Comfortable using modern LLM-assisted development tools while maintaining complete ownership and understanding of production code. • Ability to operate independently and make sound engineering decisions in a small, highly autonomous team. Especially relevant backgrounds Candidates with experience in the following environments are particularly well aligned: • Gaming • Simulation • VFX / real-time graphics • Sports technology • Telemetry platforms • Race or event visualization • Geospatial applications • Performance analytics Experience building camera systems, replay systems, interpolation engines, simulation playback, or performance-sensitive rendering pipelines is especially valuable. Sailing experience is not required. Additional valuable experience • GPS track processing and geospatial rendering • Timeline, playback, replay, or video-style interfaces • Go • Flutter/Dart • WebAssembly • WebGPU • Compute shaders or GPU compute • Large, high-frequency time-series datasets • Hardware-connected applications • Sports-performance analytics • LLM-backed product features including structured-data retrieval, tool calling, streaming, grounding, and output evaluation #dice

Vanta's team and technology surface are growing quickly, and it's essential that we invest in the right abstractions and systems to enable us to scale with our business. Your past experience will be leveraged to enable and accelerate Vanta's growth. Our business has found incredible product-market fit and has monetized effectively since the day we signed our first customer. We're growing at a blistering pace, which presents career-defining opportunities for engineers to accelerate their growth and to contribute to a rapidly-scaling company. Visit our Vanta Engineering Blog to learn more about what our team is working on! The Integrations Platform team mission is to power the world's largest trust automation ecosystem, enabling any person or agent to build, connect, and automate trust seamlessly. We own Vanta's integration ecosystem, which currently includes over 400 integrations across Cloud Providers (AWS, Azure, GCP), Identity Providers, Mobile Device Management (MDM), and Human Resources Information System (HRIS). We are focused on developing the Integration Platform. This includes creating shared primitives for authentication, lifecycle, observability, and publishing to ensure all integrations are built on the same foundation. Our North Star is to eliminate the barrier to building integrations entirely. We aim to enable anyone to create an integration in minutes using declarative, low-code, and no-code patterns, supercharged by AI Agents. What you'll do as a Senior Software Engineer at Vanta: • Set technical strategy and direction for critical platform surface areas, staying ahead of rapid growth. • Design and evolve the APIs, primitives, and self-service golden paths that internal teams, partners, and customers build on. • Own the authentication, data-ingestion, and schema-evolution primitives that keep integrations with external systems secure and reliable at scale. • Build secure, well-documented, scalable backend services and developer tooling (including CI/CD) that propel engineering productivity. • Drive performance, operational excellence, and SDLC best practices; make and defend buy-vs-build and one-way-door decisions. • Act as a force multiplier: mentor and uplevel teammates, and set the design patterns the team standardizes on. • Build with TypeScript, React, and Node.js, and use AI tools to accelerate development and workflows. How to be successful in this role: • 8+ years of backend development building reliable, scalable, fault-tolerant systems. • Platform and API design: you've evolved core APIs, SDKs, and platform abstractions, with deep expertise in RESTful APIs, GraphQL, authentication protocols (OAuth, API keys, JWT), and security best practices. • Data Integrations: you've built resilient data ingestion from external systems, including integrations with cloud providers, HRIS platforms, identity providers, and code repositories. You champion best practices such as rate limiting, retries and idempotency, webhooks, and handling schema drift. • Systems thinking at scale: you design for scale, reliability and failure modes. You look around corners and proactively identify and address risk. • Technical leadership and cross-team influence: you've led teams and complex projects, and influenced decisions across the organization. • Internal Enablement and Evangelism: you build sample integrations, POCs, AI Skills, documentation, and workshops to help internal engineering teams onboard quickly to the platform. Bonus: startup or bias-for-action environments, greenfield work, multi-region or Gov deployments, and prior experience in security or compliance products. • Open to using AI to amplify their skills and strengthen their work - demonstrating curiosity, a willingness to learn, and sound judgment in applying AI responsibly to improve efficiency and impact. What you can expect as a Vanta'n: • Industry-competitive salary and equity • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, with 100% of employee-only benefit premiums covered for most medical plans • 16 weeks fully-paid Parental Leave for all new parents • Health & wellness stipend • Remote workspace, internet, and cellphone stipend • Commuter benefits for team members who report to the SF and NYC office • Family planning benefits • Matching 401(k) contribution with immediate vesting • Flexible PTO policy, plus 80 hours of Sick Time • 11 company-paid holidays • Virtual team building activities, lunch and learns, and other company-wide events! • Offices in SF, NYC, London, Dublin, Tel Aviv, and Sydney To provide greater transparency to candidates, we share base pay ranges for all US-based job postings regardless of state. We set standard base pay ranges for all roles based on function, level, and country location, benchmarked against similar-stage growth companies. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors and may vary based on candidate location, skills, depth of work experience, and relevant licenses/credentials. #LI-remote At Vanta, we are committed to hiring diverse talent of different backgrounds and as such, it is important to us to provide an inclusive work environment for all. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, gender identity, age, religion, sexual orientation, veteran or disability status, or any other protected class. As an equal opportunity employer, we encourage and welcome people of all backgrounds to apply. About Vanta We started in 2018, in the wake of several high-profile data breaches. Online security was only becoming more important, but we knew firsthand how hard it could be for fast-growing companies to invest the time and manpower it takes to build a solid security foundation. Vanta was inspired by a vision to restore trust in internet businesses by enabling companies to improve and prove their security. From our early days automating security monitoring for compliance standards like SOC 2, HIPAA and ISO 27001 to creating the world's leading Trust Management Platform, our vision remains unchanged. Now more than ever, making security continuous-not just a point-in-time check- is essential. Thousands of companies rely on Vanta to build, maintain and demonstrate their trust- all in a way that's real-time and transparent. The Motley Fool

Tech Lead (Fool.com and Motley Fool Money)

The Motley FoolAnywhereFull-time
View Job
Compensation$200K - 230K a year

Lead technical direction, write code, mentor engineers, ensure production reliability, and collaborate cross-functionally for Fool.com and Motley Fool Money platforms. | 7+ years software engineering with 2+ years tech lead experience, Python/Django proficiency, front-end familiarity, AWS and observability tooling experience, mentoring skills, and AI integration experience. | Who are we? The Motley Fool is a purpose-driven financial services company on a mission to make the world smarter, happier, and richer. For 30 years we've been helping people make better investment decisions through transparency, education, and Foolish fun. We're a fast-moving, collaborative team that values high-quality work, curiosity, and initiative. We care deeply about what we do, and we're driven by the impact our work has on real people's financial futures. What does this team do? The Fool.com and Motley Fool Money team is at the center of how millions of investors find, read, and engage with The Motley Fool. These are two of our highest-visibility platforms—a content-rich flagship site and a fast-growing personal finance brand—and the engineers who support them are directly shaping the experience of the people we exist to serve. The team moves fast, ships real things, and takes pride in code that holds up under pressure. What would you do in this role? As Tech Lead, you're the engineering anchor for both platforms, the person who sets technical direction, keeps production healthy, and makes the engineers around you better. You won't be choosing between writing code and leading people; you'll be doing both, week in and week out. More specifically, you would: • Own the technical direction for Fool.com and Motley Fool Money, keeping product velocity and long-term code health in honest balance • Stay hands-on: writing code, reviewing PRs, and pairing with your team daily • Mentor and grow your direct reports through 1:1s, technical coaching, and real career development conversations • Own production reliability for both platforms: incident response, observability, and continuous improvement of monitoring and alerting • Partner with product, design, marketing, and business unit leadership to translate business goals into technical strategy • Drive AI integration thoughtfully, both in production features and in how the team builds software • Maintain and evolve the engineering standards, deployment processes, and tooling that keep the team shipping confidently • Collaborate across business units to align technical decisions with broader company direction The rough shape of your week: 25% hands-on coding and code review, 25% technical leadership and system design, 25% people leadership, 25% cross-functional collaboration and incident response. That split will shift. Some weeks are deep in code, others in planning or production support. Comfort with that variability is part of the job. What we're looking for • You've got 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a tech lead or senior+ capacity • You're fluent in Python and have real production experience in Django. Wagtail experience is a plus. • You can navigate and contribute to a Next.js codebase; you don't need to be a JS specialist, but front-end shouldn't be a black box to you • You have a deep, practical understanding of the HTTP request/response cycle, REST API design, and how web applications work end-to-end • You've worked with AWS services and modern observability tooling (Datadog, Sentry, or equivalents) in production • You have a track record of mentoring and growing engineers—not just technically, but as people • You've integrated AI/LLM capabilities into production applications, or you're someone who's clearly been building toward it • Bonus points: experience leading high-traffic consumer web platforms, familiarity with content-driven sites and editorial workflows, and comfort with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) and modern testing approaches (Playwright or similar) Why this role is exciting This is a rare opportunity to lead two of The Motley Fool's most important digital platforms at a moment when the company is actively investing in AI, modernizing its stack, and building for the next chapter. You'll have real technical ownership, a team worth showing up for, and the backing of an organization that's serious about both the engineering and the mission. If you want to write code you're proud of and shape something that matters, this is the role for you. Please note, no sponsorship is available for this position. You must reside in, or be willing to relocate to, one of these states for employment: Alabama, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington DC, and Wisconsin. • Flexible, remote work environment (see our open states above) • No "vacation policy" (not to be confused with a "No vacation" policy) • Generous fully-paid parental leave • $1,000 annually to invest in stocks of your choice • Super low premiums for medical, dental, and vision coverage • Comprehensive compensation package, including company equity Annual Pay Range: $200,000 USD - $230,000 USD By applying on this site, you acknowledge that The Motley Fool will be collecting the personal data you provide for our recruiting purposes. Please see our Applicant Privacy Notice for additional information about how we process, transfer, and store your data, including where that data is stored, and about any additional privacy rights you may have based on your jurisdiction.
