Responsibilities • Accurately identifies patients during the check-in/arrival process, promoting patient safety and preventing duplicate patient record creation in the hospital's information systems. • Calculates the amounts due from the patient and performs point-of-service payment collections. • Ensures each patient has presented identification of Certificate of Identification and signs an Authorization of Treatment. • Enters patient demographic information into the hospital's information system in line with department accuracy standards. • Appropriately identifies, adds and verifies insurance information on patient accounts. • Explains and obtains signatures for consents, other required documents and adheres to regulatory requirements and department-specific procedures. • Accurately schedules patient appointments. • Verifies patient financial responsibility including deductibles, co-insurance, and co-payments by reviewing the patient FPL's (Federal Poverty Level) status for self pay via insurance cards, and on-line software. • Accurately performs the Filing Order functions in accordance with the birthday/gender rule and other third party payer requirements and any applicable comments within the Epic System. • Conducts accurate patient Interviews. • Verifies third party payer information and obtains authorizations/pre-certifications. • Performs other duties as assigned.
