Job Summary and Qualifications The Consultant Analytical Engineer serves as a key analytics and process-engineering leader within the Expanse organization, combining expertise in data engineering, statistical analysis, and AI-driven insights to advance operational, clinical, and financial performance across HCA Healthcare. Positioned at the intersection of advanced analytics and healthcare process improvement, this role transforms complex data into clear, actionable intelligence that supports decision-making and accelerates value for patients, clinicians, and operational leaders. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing analytical products including data pipelines, statistical models, dashboards, and AI-enabled workflows that strengthen process reliability, efficiency, and patient safety in and around the Expanse EHR. The Consultant Analytical Engineer partners closely with process engineers, clinical informatics, product teams, and enterprise stakeholders to uncover improvement opportunities, quantify impact, and guide the adoption of optimized workflows across clinical domains such as nursing, physician/APP, pharmacy, and lab operations. This role will work closely with cross-functional team members (as well as external stakeholders), including multiple constituents across the enterprise, to execute project requirements that will establish solutions directionality and support leadership to effectively and efficiently assess, develop and integrated new workflows, derived from the translation of workflow observations, quantitative inputs from various clinical systems and qualitative inputs. Using Lean methods, process-mining techniques, and advanced analytical methods, this role supports the full lifecycle of process design from current-state assessment through modeling, measurement, and sustained performance monitoring. The Consultant Analytical Engineer plays a critical role in identifying and evaluating AI and automation opportunities, integrating predictive insights and intelligent tooling into operational processes, and ensuring measurable value is tracked through KPIs, OKRs, and other performance frameworks. Major Responsibilities: • Support the development of new processes in and around the Expanse EHR that support agility, resilience, efficiency, and patient safety. • Assess existing processes and workflows at sites using Expanse to identify priorities and opportunities for improvement by making informed deductive decisions from available datasets. • Employ process improvement methodologies as standards for assessing workflow in and around the Expanse EHR • Track initiatives against key measurable success metrics to identify opportunities for improvement • Research, develop and apply possible AI opportunities and their utilization within the healthcare framework. • Proactively identify and mitigate risks to the Expanse organizational strategy, project plans, and key milestones • Work collaboratively with other members of the Expanse organization to design and assess processes according to the principles of Lean, Six Sigma, or other process engineering modalities. • Guides cross-functional teams to conduct process improvement and design process studies/audits, as well as studies in business process re-engineering and system redesign. • Collaborates with Clinical Informatics, Business Operations, and cross-functional design partners (as well as external partners) to design, lead, assign and execute quantitative and qualitative data analysis including: Leveraging available and novel data sources in an effective and efficient manner, leveraging database and data analytics tools such as SQL and Power BI to support design and evaluation of business cases, and tracking current and future state metrics and OKRs (Objective and Key Results) as a means to ascertain solution viability. • Works with a cross-functional team to improve understanding of data and design solutions that systematically reduce errors, reduce costs, and increase revenues that create clinical and business capacity. • Perform detailed analysis and evaluations on current/future state and documents conclusions and recommendations. • Adhere to the standard operating procedures of the Expanse organization, including all supportive technologies used to organize and progress work efforts • Serve as a trusted analytics leader, providing consultative guidance on data design, analytic approaches, and statistical rigor. • Engages with Expanse product, Division, and facility teams to assess, design, and implement improved workflows with the Expanse platform. • Develop and maintain analytics for the areas of clinical outcomes, operations, finance, healthcare coding, people measures, and other healthcare domains. • Proactively identifies and mitigates opportunities/barriers to successful completion of assigned work, escalating accordingly to the Director of Process Engineering. • Supports (and learns strategies and tactics to lead) the analysis of multiple inputs to produce standard work products and artifacts/outputs that render a concise and synthesized clinically-lead analysis of perceived, current, and ideal state. • Mentor analysts, data engineers, and process engineers to elevate analytic and data literacy across the team. • This role will frequently engage with executives, including Strategy, Clinical Operations, Clinical Informatics Product Lifecycle Logistics, Business Operations, Data/Technical leaders, and other business partners. • Develop an in-depth familiarity with multiple enterprise datasets used to support customer deliverables such as dashboards • Supports (and learns strategies and tactics to lead) process mining projects that support automation efforts based on identified complexity of existing business processes. • Educates, informs and advocates for the capabilities and benefits of process improvement and continuous performance management strategies and tactics as a means to enhance and accelerate DT&I-related work. • Ability to build, develop and present operational update (detailed and high level) reports to leadership on progress. • Participates in scoping of projects with key stakeholders. What you will do • This role will focus on setting technical direction on groups of applications and similar technologies as well as taking responsibility for the implementation of technically robust solutions encompassing all business, architecture, and technology constraints. • Lead the design and implementation of scalable and efficient data architecture solutions using GCP technologies such as BigQuery, Cloud Dataflow, Cloud Spanner, Pub/Sub, and Google Cloud Storage. • Architect and manage data lakes and data warehouses with an emphasis on performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency. • Deep understanding of Lakehouse design patterns, including Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg, and Hudi. • Experience designing scalable, high-performance, and cost-effective data architectures on GCP. • Strong knowledge of data partitioning, indexing, schema evolution, and ACID compliance within a Lakehouse environment. • Design and optimize ETL/ELT pipelines and data workflows for high-volume, high-velocity data across the cloud environment. • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and develop strategies for data architecture that align with organizational goals. • Drive the integration of data from disparate sources, ensuring data quality, consistency, and reliability across various platforms. • Work with data engineering teams to ensure seamless data ingestion, transformation, and consumption processes in the cloud environment using Agile practices and principles. • Develop and enforce best practices around standards, frameworks, data quality, data integration, data governance, security, data retention, and compliance for data management in the cloud. • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior data engineers and architects on the use of cloud data platforms and engineering practices. • Stay current with emerging data technologies and GCP services and assess their applicability to the organization's needs. • Provide thought leadership in cloud-based data solutions, contributing to the development of an enterprise data strategy. • Architect, manage, and own full data lifecycle from raw data acquisition through transformation to end user consumption. • Provide guidance on technology choices and design considerations for migrating data to the Cloud. • Translate project-specific requirements into a cloud structure that meets those requirements, as well as considering the project’s resource use and scalability requirements. • Maintains a holistic view of information assets by creating and maintaining artifacts that illustrate how information is stored, processed, and accessed. • Ensure architectural, quality, and governance adherence through design reviews. • Experience with building consumable data lakes, analytics applications, and tools What you will need to have: • Bachelor's degree in computer science, related technical field, or equivalent experience Required • Master's degree in computer science or related field preferred • 3+ years of experience in Cloud Data or Information Architect required • 5+ years of experience in Healthcare preferred • 10+ years of experience in Information Technology required • 10+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or cloud engineering with a focus on designing large-scale data solutions. • 3+ year(s) experience of hands-on experience with GCP platform and experience with many of the following components: o BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow o Cloud Run, GKE, Cloud Functions o Spark Streaming, Kafka, Pub/Sub o Bigtable, Cloud SQL, Cloud Spanner o JSON, Avro, Parquet, Iceberg, Delta formats o Cloud Composer, DataProc, CI/CD, Cloud Logging o Vertex AI, Pydantic, LangChain, FastAPI, Docker • Extensive experience in designing and managing data warehouses, data lakes, and cloud-based data ecosystems. • Expertise in ETL/ELT tools and technologies, with a strong background in automating data pipelines. • Strong programming skills in Python, Java, Scala, SQL, and/or other relevant languages for data engineering. • Experience with DevOps and automation tools for deploying and managing data solutions in the cloud. • Knowledge of data security, privacy, and compliance regulations (GDPR, HIPAA, etc.) within the context of cloud data architectures. • Experience with Oracle, SQL Server, and other database platforms. • Adeptness to learn new assignments, technologies, and applications quickly and manage multiple assignments simultaneously. • Ability to troubleshoot, maintain, reverse engineer, and optimize existing ETL pipelines. • Ability to analyze and interpret complex data and offer solutions to complex clinical problems. • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks. • Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to explain complex technical issues in a way that non-technical people may understand.
