Job Summary: Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or Physician, the Medical Assistant performs delegated functions as a member of the patient care team to provide a variety of multi-skilled services. These activities contribute to meeting the health care, safety and comfort needs of patients, and are performed in accordance with all existing regulatory, state and company standards, policies and procedures. The Medical Assistant will be primarily responsible for the rooming of patients, obtaining vital signs, assisting the physician or Nurse Practitioner in performing gynecologic examinations, minor surgical procedures, phlebotomy, obtaining pre-certification and pre-authorizations for surgeries and specialized testing. The Medical Assistant will be responsible to cover the front administrative office when needed and will be required to answer phones, schedule appointments, sign in and discharge patients, copying and faxing as necessary. Reports to the assigned supervisor. Qualifications • High School graduate or equivalent preferred. • Diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant program OR an active CT CNA, EMT, Paramedic Certification OR relative experience • In lieu of education requirement, at least one year of experience in direct patient care (acute or ambulatory space) may be considered. • Relevant experience or MA externship in a busy medical office. EPIC EMR preferred. • Certified BLS to be obtained through employment provided RQI training. To be completed 3 months (90) days of hire or job transfer. • All required credentials to be maintained throughout employment. • Epic Experience preferred. • Must be willing to travel to different locations. • Must possess effective communication skills. Competency in basic medical assisting skills. Including, rooming patients, assisting provider with exams, performing hearing tests, answering phones, scheduling appointments and surgeries. Strong working knowledge of medical terminology. Strong computer skills including solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office software. Experience with medical software preferred. Positive, customer-focused approach, with commitment to providing excellent patient care. Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Additionally, Patient Administrative Associates in the Emergency Department are responsible for observing cardiac monitors, interpreting telemetry rhythm strips, and reporting any abnormalities or critical changes to the clinical team. Qualifications REQUIRED: Demonstrated ability to read English, and perform basic Mathematics. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, write, and speak English Basic computer skills required Ability to perform physical effort as specified by position physical requirements and occupational exposure form.
