Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities Oversees Claims department operations, optimizing workflows and ensuring high productivity. Develops and implements strategic plans for the Claims department to align with business goals and objectives. Leads the strategic oversight of claims settlements to confirm coverage and determine liability, compensability, and damages. Advises team members on claim file management including settlement and reserving strategies. Analyzes claims data to identify trends, assess performance, and provide regular reports to senior management. Establishes reserves and provides insights or reports to Corporate Claims or senior management. Performs other duties as assigned. Job Requirements Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience. Experience: Generally, a minimum of 6 years of experience in property and casualty claims handling, including a minimum of 3 years leadership experience. Completion of or continuing progress toward a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Claims (AIC) or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). Scope of Job/Qualifications: Typically manages 3 or more reports, as well as potentially managing supervisors / managers. Implements policies, procedures, and strategies under the direction of management. Leads and mentors claims professionals, ensuring they achieve excellence in their roles. Serves as a resource on insurance policy and claims handling procedures. Responsible for identifying opportunities for process improvements and implementing best practices to enhance efficiency and service quality. Responsibilities • Demonstrates beginner to intermediate knowledge of the claims operations and the ability to address simple requests and complaints received via telephone, email, or voicemail, with some guidance • Expands upon and employs problem-solving skills and learns the investigative methods needed to actively seek information required to resolve inquiries and issues • Accepts and resolves call center calls and utilizes call center software • Learns to identify discrepancies in information gathered • Refers non-routine/complex issues to manager or more experienced staff • Becomes familiar with and utilizes multiple computer systems for policy analysis, claim management, data management, reporting, and productivity • Learns to utilize ClaimConnect, ClaimCenter, OpsNow, and Outlook to track workload, manage activities, remain organized, and timely • May learn to execute basic claim setup and entry, coverage verification, and financial transactions • May assist with and/or create general correspondence • Maintains a professional demeanor in all situations • Performs all other duties and tasks as assigned • Works productively under close supervision; relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job Qualifications Education, Experience, Location & Availability: • High school diploma is required • Related billing claims assistant, claims processing or claims operations support experience is required • Workers' compensation claims experience is preferred • Location within the Eastern or Central Time Zone is preferred • Must be available to work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
