Lead a team managing Kubernetes platform operations, observability services, automation with IaC tools, and optimize cloud infrastructure reliability and cost. | 10+ years in infrastructure or DevOps with 3+ years leadership, deep Kubernetes and AWS experience, Terraform and Helm skills, observability expertise, and strong communication. | Platform Engineering Lead - Kubernetes & Observability Location: Remote (U.S.) Employment Type: Full-time Overview We're looking for a hands-on engineering leader to guide the next evolution of our cloud platform and observability ecosystem. This role sits at the intersection of technical depth and people leadership-ideal for someone who's been a senior engineer or tech lead and is ready to take ownership of a team's direction, delivery, and culture. You'll lead a small but impactful group focused on delivering scalable, reliable, and cost-efficient container platforms and monitoring solutions across a fast-growing AWS environment. If you thrive on simplifying complex systems, mentoring others, and staying ahead of the curve on infrastructure automation and reliability, this is your chance to shape how modern DevOps operates at scale. Key Responsibilities • Lead and mentor a team responsible for Kubernetes (EKS) platform operations, observability services, and internal developer enablement tools. • Drive modernization of container infrastructure-consolidating clusters, refactoring EC2 workloads, and eliminating remaining on-prem dependencies. • Oversee the reliability and evolution of observability platforms, including centralized logging, tracing, and metrics solutions. • Implement automation for environment provisioning, patching, and version rollouts using Terraform, Helm, and other IaC frameworks. • Optimize platform scalability and cloud spend through right-sizing, resource governance, and performance tuning. • Partner with development and product teams to ensure platform services enhance, not hinder, software delivery. • Define and track operational health metrics (availability, latency, error rates) to drive continuous improvement. • Champion DevOps and SRE best practices-reducing manual effort and increasing deployment confidence. Qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline-or equivalent experience. • 10+ years in infrastructure, systems engineering, or DevOps roles, including 3+ years in a technical lead or people-lead capacity. • Deep hands-on experience managing Kubernetes (EKS) environments at enterprise scale. • Solid background with AWS services (VPC, IAM, EC2, EKS), Terraform, Helm, and Linux systems administration. • Strong familiarity with observability tools such as Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, New Relic, or Cribl. • Demonstrated success mentoring engineers and improving team performance through coaching and example. • Clear communicator who can bridge discussions between infrastructure and application teams. Preferred Experience • Migration of legacy workloads to containerized or serverless architectures. • FinOps or cost-optimization initiatives in AWS environments. • Exposure to service mesh frameworks like Istio or Linkerd. • Experience with scripting or lightweight programming (Python, JavaScript, or similar). • Working knowledge of reliability engineering concepts (SLOs, SLIs, error budgets). Who You Are • You thrive in complex, high-volume environments where reliability and scale go hand-in-hand. • You're equally comfortable solving deep technical issues and mentoring engineers through growth. • You're proactive about automation, optimization, and architectural improvement. • You believe leadership is earned through trust, transparency, and technical credibility.
