Reporting to the AVP, Donor Engagement, the National Manager, Strategic Donor Engagement Events leads the design, planning, and flawless execution of high-quality major and principal gift donor events in support of Breakthrough T1D's strategic plan and comprehensive campaign. The National Manager develops compelling, memorable experiences for Breakthrough T1D's highest-level donors and volunteer leaders — creating meaningful connections to the mission that deepen relationships and inspire continued philanthropic investment. This role collaborates directly with staff within the offices of the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Global Development and Operations Officer, leadership of Scientific Research, Medical Affairs and Advocacy teams, and key staff and volunteers including International Board of Directors and Campaign Cabinet members. The position is part of the Strategic Philanthropic Initiatives team and operates with a high degree of organizational visibility. Key responsibilities Strategic event design & execution — 45% Lead end-to-end planning and execution of national and international donor events, including Breakthrough T1D's annual Mission Summit — a multi-day stewardship event attended by major and principal gift donors, volunteer leaders, and key executive and fundraising staff. Develop compelling event concepts that translate the complexity and excitement of T1D research into emotionally resonant, inspiring experiences for major gift donor audiences. Partner with Corporate and Institutional Giving, Leadership Giving, Strategic Philanthropic Communications, and Marketing and Communications teams to ensure events are integrated with broader strategies. Work collaboratively with the Meetings and Conference team on venue and city selection, hotel negotiations, and vendor relationship management. Manage all event timelines, logistics, vendor contracts, production details, and onsite execution; ensure all components meet the quality standard expected of a principal gift donor audience. Manage approval processes for all event components; ensure timely review and stakeholder alignment. Support individual hosted events in collaboration with Corporate and Institutional Giving, Leadership Giving, and volunteer leadership — ensuring the CEO, organizational leadership and key volunteers receive exceptional service. Event communications — 30% Lead the development and execution of event communication materials for staff, event speakers, and executives, including run-of-show, executive briefings and event-related donor and speaker correspondence, with exceptional attention to detail and quality execution. Design and manage donor-facing event webpages and registration experiences in Cvent to create polished, user-friendly, and engaging interactions. Collaborate with Strategic Philanthropic Communications on event collateral design including invitations, programs, talking points, event-related donor correspondence, printed programs, presentations, and branded event materials — ensuring all materials meet the quality standard expected for a principal gift donor audience. Lead event communication planning and execution — ensuring alignment across stakeholders, timelines, messaging, and deliverables. Manage RSVP process and maintain accurate mailing lists and event data; oversee coordination of post-event follow-up plans. Budget, reporting & operations — 25% Develop and manage event budgets; track expenses and report on actual vs. budget throughout the event cycle. Produce post-event reports and outcome summaries; analyze event data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement. Maintain event data and pre/post-event reporting processes; support continuous improvement of event systems and workflows. Maintain strict confidentiality and data security standards for all donor information. Perform all other responsibilities and projects as assigned. Qualifications 5+ years of experience in high-touch event planning and management, with demonstrated expertise in designing and executing events for major donor or equivalent high-net-worth audiences. Proficiency in Cvent or equivalent event management platform. Strong project management skills with exceptional attention to detail; ability to manage multiple complex events simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to interact with senior executives, board-level volunteers, and principal gift donors with poise and professionalism. Strong written communication skills; ability to write and evaluate event copy that is sophisticated, warm, and donor-appropriate. Proficiency in Salesforce or equivalent CRM for data management and RSVP tracking. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite including PowerPoint and Excel. Ability to travel 20–30% of the time, including occasional international travel. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and data security. College degree in a related area or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience managing events in a healthcare, research, or advocacy organization with scientifically complex content preferred. Experience supporting a CEO or C-suite executive in high-visibility external settings preferred. Familiarity with campaign fundraising environments and major gift donor dynamics preferred. Passion for the mission of Breakthrough T1D and familiarity with the type 1 diabetes community preferred. The Development Senior Manager (DSM) at Breakthrough T1D is integral in the day-to-day execution of integrated fundraising efforts to support our organizational strategy and mission. Their relationships with constituents and donors on behalf of Breakthrough T1D will ensure the expansion of our reach to support maximum chapter and event growth to further our mission. The Development Senior Manager role focuses on relationship building with donors and fundraising volunteers within their assigned event portfolio, driving impact and strengthening both donor and volunteer pipeline resulting in increased revenue and results. This individual is a high-impact, high-energy team player who can effectively bring the mission to life within the community through collaboration, cultivation, inspiration, and engagement. They will implement activities to support organizational strategies through their assigned event revenue portfolio to drive optimal results and actively demonstrate and promote enterprise-wide mindsets. As one of the top performing chapters in the country, the Southeast Florida Chapter is a part of the Florida Territory and plays a vital role in the organization’s success. The Florida Territory has 21 staff, 6 Chapter Boards and 17 events collectively driving close to $9 million in total net revenue. The position is based in the Southern Florida Chapter and is a remote role. The individual for this role can be based in Ft Lauderdale, Miami or Boca Raton, FL. Bilingual is preferred Key Responsibilities: Fundraising & Engagement – 60% Implement revenue and engagement plans that drive new levels of performance and year-over-year growth in the chapter. This includes driving individual and corporate supporter growth within assigned event portfolio. Responsible for achieving personal event revenue goals and supporting the achievement of overall event, and ultimately chapter revenue and engagement goals. In collaboration with national and chapter partners, implement annual strategies that will drive growth of assigned event portfolio through corporate and individual donor engagement and stewardship at the event level. Identify and develop new business with existing donors and new prospects. Implement stewardship strategies of all event supporters that align to program standards; ensuring they are done timely and consistently throughout the year Deploy tactics and strategies within event portfolio that drive foundation and pipeline building activities in support of long-term success of organization Implement strategies to retain, acquire and activate supporters in events that will ensure fundraising, and participation goals are met for current and future activities Volunteer Management – 20% Recruit, cultivate, and manage volunteer leaders that drive revenue as key partners; includes event leadership and committees Ensure meaningful engagement of volunteers at all levels and engage in good working relationships with key volunteer partners. Partner with volunteer leadership to solicit funding and other support from individuals, corporations, foundations and other sources of funding and/or influence. Awareness – 10% Support and maintain the vision, mission, and priorities of Breakthrough T1D. Understand and be able to articulate the strategic direction and purpose of the organization. Demonstrate an educated and enthusiastic understanding of Breakthrough T1D’s mission and research therapeutics. Promote mission engagement opportunities throughout the community in the areas of research, advocacy, and community engagement and clinical trials. Represent the interests, professionalism, and integrity of Breakthrough T1D in all activities and relationships through a commitment to organizational standards and leadership by personal example. Administration and Management – 10% Maintain departmental and organization-wide policies and procedures Develops expertise in fundraising management platforms, as appropriate. Participate in monthly strategy meetings with fundraising events program partners to monitor KPI progress, identify risks and opportunities, and take actions as appropriate to ensure success of event(s). Partner annually with national program partner(s) to establish budget and pipeline strategies specific to event portfolio and role. Requirements: Bachelor's Degree or college and 5+ years of combined experience in donor development, volunteer engagement, operations, and project management. Nonprofit experience preferred. Five years of volunteer team recruitment, development, retention, and stewardship experience. Successfully executed large scale community-based events 3-5 years of fundraising experience, with a clear record of achievement in a complex, mission-driven organization with revenue responsibilities more than $500k; experience working directly in large scale events (walk, gala, etc.). Strong skills in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and on-going stewardship of donors and supporters. Experience partnering with strong and active volunteers, including working successfully with a large network of passionate volunteers. Demonstrate a high degree of energy, integrity, courage, empathy, and creativity. A team player who can achieve individual objectives and support those of the entire chapter team. Proven ability to successfully maintain an extensive network of strategic relationships (donors, volunteers, community partners, etc.) in the local area. Existing knowledge and network of relationships in the territory preferred. Ability to be an enthusiastic spokesperson/representative of Breakthrough T1D’s mission. Clear communicator with ability to inspire others to engage and support an organization’s mission. Highly efficient in time management and able to meet deadlines under pressure. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM databases. Ability to travel locally required. Evening and weekend work as needed. P2P specific items: Secure event sponsors and corporate teams to drive greater awareness and revenue for assigned event(s) Provide 1:1 coaching of fundraising best practices with event participants; elevate fundraising activation Develop and implement recruitment and fundraising engagement events that will lead to increased participation and fundraising activation. Key Responsibilities: Fundraising (80%) Master the organization’s case for support and effectively communicate funding priorities to prospective donors.
