The Community You Will Join: Marketplaces Data and AI is a group of passionate machine learning, software, data, and analytics engineers. We are responsible for developing new, cutting-edge AI and data products that leverage Airbnb's massive datasets across Users, Listings, Pricing, and Supply/Demand. You will be a crucial part of the Guest and Host organization, building the intelligence that powers the web and native apps used by hundreds of millions of guests and hosts globally. The Difference You Will Make: • Define and execute strategy to dramatically improve the intelligence of the Guest and Host apps through machine learning and data products. • Set priorities, balance speed and quality, and ensure the engineering team executes against an ambitious roadmap. • Partner with Product, Design, and Data Science to take high-impact ML initiatives from concept to production. • Examples of initiatives include AI Photo Tour, Categories and AI-driven review synthesis. A Typical Day: • Lead and mentor a diverse team of ~10+ engineers and technical leads across Machine Learning, Data Engineering, Analytics Engineering, and Software Engineering. • This role is highly cross functional so you will partner with senior leadership in Data Science, Product, and across our Business to align stakeholders, define multi-year roadmaps, set and execute on iterative milestones. • Collaborate closely with key engineering teams, including Host Tools, Pricing, Guest Experience, Trust, Infrastructure, and Customer Service Platform. • Coaching and developing team members, helping them grow their careers, technical expertise, and collaboration skills. Your Expertise: • 12+ years of industry experience, with a minimum of 5-7 years in engineering management. • A proven track record of shipping highly scalable data and machine learning products to consumers in a fast paced environment • Expertise in setting 2-3 year technical strategies and roadmaps, aligning vision with diverse executive and technical stakeholders. • Demonstrated experience building, scaling, and leading high-performing teams quickly in dynamic, fast-paced domains. • Exceptional people management and mentorship skills, with a history of recruiting, developing and retaining top engineering talent. The difference you will make The Host Pricing Settings org is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help us craft the next generation of tools for Airbnb hosts. Our team empowers Airbnb hosts to better run their business by providing the tools and education to implement pricing strategies that adapt to their evolving goals. As a Senior Engineer on the Guidance Serving team, you will collaborate closely with our Product, Data Science, and ML Engineering teams to design strategies, develop programs, and build tools that enhance the quality, efficiency, and speed of ML training and serving data. Your work will focus on delivering model recommendations to users, ensuring seamless integration with Host Pricing functionality, and building the infrastructure necessary to support real-time, impactful decision-making. A typical day • Design and manage end-to-end data workflows to support the ML engineering lifecycle, focusing on preparing data for model training, tracking data lineage, evolving schemas to adapt to changing needs, and ensuring data integrity and reliability in production. • Build and optimize real-time serving systems to deliver low-latency, high-throughput APIs for model predictions and personalized recommendations, ensuring reliable and scalable performance in production environments. • Collaborate with other product engineers and cross-functional partners to develop new Host pricing functionality and surface model recommendations, insights and analytics • Contribute to the development of long-term workflow strategies, roadmaps and ML serving development within the Host Pricing organization. • Mentor and coach team members, providing guidance in ML serving and data engineering best practices and support to enhance their skills and performance. • Ability to work in areas outside of your usual comfort zone and show motivation for personal growth Your expertise • 6+ years of experience with a BS/Masters or 4+ years with a PhD • Experience leading and shipping large scope technical projects in collaboration with multiple experienced engineers. • You exhibit strong ownership and experience building and operating high-scale, distributed systems across the full software life cycle. • You have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well within a team and across engineering teams. • Expertise in large-scale distributed data processing frameworks like Presto or Spark. • Prior experience with the whole lifecycle of productionalization of ML models, including ETL pipelines for data training, feature generation, model evaluation and real-time serving. • You are a strong problem solver and have solid production debugging skills.
