Your New Role Intellectual Property is at the center of everything we do, which makes this position, providing vital support to the IP Legal team, very exciting. This position will be a key player in Discovery Global’s continuing engagement with AI technologies. This position will provide advice on various IP legal issues associated with AI, in particular evaluating AI use cases from an IP copyright perspective, tracking and assessing AI legislative and litigation developments, and developing and implementing policies and programs for protecting Discovery Global IP from unauthorized use. This position will also provide copyright related advice to internal clients including in matters related to clearance, chain of title, fair use and termination. Finally, this position will monitor and advise the business on key US legislative and regulatory developments relating to all forms of IP. Your Role Accountabilities Evaluate and advise on AI use cases proposed by the business from an IP/copyright perspective. Train internal stakeholders on legal issues and considerations relevant to the use of AI. Track and report on meaningful developments in copyright law and related AI case law; support Company’s IP policy efforts in the US, including as they relate to AI; evaluate and advise business on implications of potential US regulatory and legislative IP developments relevant to DG and its interests. Support and advise business on IP infringement and enforcement matters, including as they relate to AI. Advise business on a wide range of sophisticated copyright and related IP matters, including issues related to fair use, chain of title analysis, production clearance, and copyright termination. Qualifications & Experience At least 8 years of relevant, substantive copyright experience. Experience as in-house counsel and/or within entertainment industry highly preferred but not required. Meaningful knowledge of IP considerations related to the use of AI. Previous experience with IP policy matters preferred. BA/BS degree JD degree from an accredited law school Admission to at least one state bar Strong communication and interpersonal skills; and ability to influence and collaborate effectively are essential. Ability to conceptualize and articulate practical and creative solutions to meet business needs and legal requirements. Ability to spot and analyze complex issues and devise practical strategies and solutions. Extensive experience counseling clients at all levels, and proven ability to become a trusted advisor regarding IP issues. Must be able to prepare, negotiate, and interpret agreements and other legal documents. In this strategic leadership role, you will oversee global trademark strategy, brand protection, and IP counseling across an expansive portfolio of iconic Discovery Global brands and content. This position reports directly to the SVP, Legal, Head of Global IP and Legal Operations and will be based in Atlanta, Georgia or Silver Spring, Maryland. As a senior member of the Intellectual Property team, you will serve as a key advisor to executive and business partners across the organization, providing sophisticated counsel on trademark selection, clearance, use, and protection. You will lead the development and execution of comprehensive trademark filing programs, review and analyze complex domestic and international trademark searches, and direct global prosecution efforts in coordination with foreign counsel. You will manage a substantial global docket of trademark opposition and cancellation matters, as well as a wide range of IP‑related disputes spanning trademarks, copyright, right of publicity, domain issues, online infringement, scams, and other brand protection issues. In this capacity, you will evaluate and respond to trademark and copyright claims, negotiate settlements and coexistence agreements, and support proactive enforcement strategies to protect Discovery Global’s portfolio. As the VP, you will also oversee key departmental functions, including trademark search and docketing operations, brand protection workflows, domain name administration, and copyright management.
