Project Description: Xcel Energy is seeking candidates to support our Major Projects – Fixed Assets team. The paid internship provides an opportunity to showcase your abilities to our engineering and project management teams that support planning and execution of new capital renewable and dispatchable generation projects being constructed in Colorado to support Xcel Energy’s clean energy transition. The program provides practical work experience to develop your existing skillset, sharpen your presentation skills with leaders, and collaborate with key internal stakeholders while actively participating in large new generation project construction, including but not limited to wind, solar, battery, and combustion turbines. Each intern will be relied upon to play a role in achieving successful execution of projects. This internship program will allow you to apply what you’ve learned in school and further enhance your knowledge through hands-on training and provide opportunities to network and learn with other interns within the MPG-FA and other supporting organizations. This role requires being at Xcel Energy’s Denver headquarters (T3) or other Xcel Energy generating facilities three (3) days a week during the summer and may require periodic travel to remote renewable or other generation sites across the state of Colorado as needed. Typical intern responsibilities may include but are not limited to: • Work as an entry level engineering analyst performing tasks spanning all aspects of plant operations including engineering, project management and construction. • Provide submittal coordination, drawing support, construction planning and oversight, schedule review, quality control support, and vendor outreach and coordination, with some exposure to budgeting. • Work with the Project Management and Engineering staff, supporting requests from operations and engineering, in making performance/efficiency improvement recommendations. • Leverage communication skills to develop relationships with key project stakeholders including environmental, land rights, various engineering groups, project controls, external consultants and development partners, and other necessary groups to support project planning. • Acquire and develop knowledge in assigned areas by interacting and learning from these sources. • Meet established turnaround time criteria for assigned projects to foster internal stakeholder participation and support project goals. • Innovate new methods to improve stakeholder engagement and team effectiveness. This position is for a June 1st , 2026 start. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs. Minimum Requirements: • Current student, Junior status (as of May 2026) or higher. • Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university Bachelor's program in pursuit of an Engineering degree. • Ability to communicate effectively; both written and verbally, with good organizational skills. • Must be self- motivated, have good mechanical aptitude, and ability to work well with others. • Able to commute to the corporate office in Denver, CO office and project sites within the state of Colorado, periodic overnight stays may be required for remote locations.
