University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) currently has multiple openings for an Environmental Services Custodial Technician I to join the Department of Facilities Operations. Under direct supervision, maintains building interiors, ensuring cleanliness, orderliness and attractive conditions are maintained in assigned areas according to set tasks and frequencies. May be required to move furniture and equipment. THIS JOB IS PART OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES CUSTODIAL TECHNICIAN SERIES AND WOULD BE UTILIZED IN THIS SERIES IN LIEU OF THE HOUSEKEEPER JOB. ALL DUTIES LISTED ARE IDENTICAL TO THE HOUSEKEEPER JOB. Cleans assigned areas by washing furnishings, windows, tile, fixtures, equipment and floors. Vacuums, dusts and polishes specified areas and/or furnishings. Sanitizes and disinfects bathroom areas. 2. Gathers and transports refuse from assigned areas to appropriate disposal location. 3. Inspects physical condition of assigned areas; submits requests to appropriate personnel regarding repairs, replacements, furnishings and relocation of equipment. 4. Requests cleaning materials and supplies from designated areas; mixes cleaning solutions according to specifications, loads and transports service cart with required materials and supplies to designated work areas. 5. Operates standard cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, buffers, and mops. PRIMARY DUTIES • Design, develop, and produce graphic material for department promotions and projects. Interact with internal clients on a regular basis in order to ensure timely delivery of quality graphic material. • Meet with colleagues and/or co-workers to determine needs, timeframe, develop design concepts, and review work from inception through delivery of finished product • Formulate manual or computer-assisted designs, layouts, formatting of graphic material for instructional, promotional or educational use; design the structure and layout of images and text in a pleasing format • Review and recommend new software and hardware requirements and learn new approaches and technological solutions to improve current performance • Coordinate logistics and manage technical aspects of virtual events including chat features, sharing screens, recording, etc.; troubleshoot issues that arise throughout the event; make recommendations proactively on lighting, sound and overall conditions • Apply new media technologies and best practices for web, email, mobile and social media platforms. • Responsible for operating and maintaining computer, video and camera equipment • Develop communications for publication in EPH Weekly, on EPH Webpage or other publications Generate interest and convey written messages using professional business language and leader's voice for style and content; write, edit, craft, and contribute to publications, blogs, social media • Serve as co-editor of EPH Weekly and biweekly funding bulletin; collect updated/new material from key stakeholders, make recommendations to increase readership, seek/solicit creative approaches to increase reader participation; manage Constant Contact mailing lists, photos, etc. • Capture and digitize EPH events including the Annual Town Hall Meeting, Pre-Commencement Ceremony, RRS Endowed Lectureship, Poster Day, PCTC Annual Meeting, etc . ( Position may require some evening, early mornings, and/or weekends .) • Perform video/photo editing using software to manipulate, color-correct, or crop images/film, add audio and/or animation. • Responsible for archiving, labeling and organizing images in the I:/ drive • Create artwork and other graphics for website ; update web content and social media accounts to improve internal and external communications and announcements. Promote websites and EPH Weekly; respond to user inquiries, comments, suggestions . • Attend monthly faculty meetings; report on communications and looking for important material that we should promote (special announcements and news, events, awards, etc.) • Assist with development of wireframes for current and future websites to send to web developers. Qualifications : MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education : Bachelor's degree preferably in English, journalism, or communications Experience : Three (3) years of related communications, marketing, media, public or client relations experience Other : Clery act designated job as campus security authorities (CSA) member and will comply with Clery Act requirements. Research experience in an academic setting preferred; basic knowledge of medical terminology highly desirable. Three writing/design samples are requested.
