Prepare and file various tax returns, reconcile accounts, and ensure compliance with tax regulations. | Requires 3-5 years of tax experience, accounting degree, proficiency in Excel, and familiarity with tax research tools. | Overview: The Indirect Tax Accountant is responsible for the maintenance, analysis, and reconciliation of general ledger accounts related to property tax, sales tax, and unclaimed property. This includes preparing journal entries, filing tax returns, processing payments, and using tax software to administer and bill taxes. The role involves nationwide tax compliance and regular interaction with the Tax Manager, Controller, and occasionally the CFO. What You’ll Do: • Prepare and file sales and property tax returns across multiple jurisdictions throughout the US. • Perform general ledger account reconciliations and prepare related journal entries. • File unclaimed property reports and ensure compliance with state regulations. • Verify and process property tax bills; upload data into the accounts receivable system. • Export/import customer data between tax systems, billing platforms, and Excel. • Respond to customer inquiries regarding tax bills in coordination with customer service. • Communicate professionally with taxing authorities via phone and email. • Maintain a nationwide tax calendar to ensure timely filings and payments. • Register with new taxing authorities and manage compliance documentation. • Conduct tax research related to sales and property tax issues. • Support month-end close and annual audit processes. • Support the Income Tax function by making estimated payments, filing extensions, and preparing import files to record changes to fixed assets. • Complete ad hoc financial analysis and reporting requests. Requirements For Success: • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. • 3–5 years of experience in a tax role, with emphasis on sales and property tax. • Experience in the financial services industry is preferred but not required. • Strong understanding of accounting principles and general ledger reconciliation. • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Office applications. • Comfortable working with system interfaces and data transfers. • Familiarity with tax research tools such as Avalara Tax Research and Vertex. • Experience with the Property Tax Management System (“PTMS”) from TCI, Inc. is a plus. • Great Plains system experience is a plus.
