Electrical Engineering Department Leader – San Jose, CA (Hybrid) This team of people is a one-of-a-kind consulting engineering firm specializing in mission critical and they're seeking an Electrical Engineering Department Leader to lead and grow its electrical division in San Jose. This role is ideal for a senior electrical engineer who enjoys people leadership as much as technical excellence. The successful candidate will act as both a hands-on technical leader and departmental manager, overseeing a team of approximately 15 engineers and designers while remaining actively involved in project delivery and client engagement. The position plays a key role in shaping engineering standards, quality assurance processes, team development, and long-term growth within the office. What the Role Involves • Lead, mentor, and manage the electrical department, including workload planning, performance reviews, and staff development • Support recruiting, hiring, and retention of electrical engineering talent • Act as Lead Electrical Engineer or Project Manager on a variety of building projects • Establish and maintain engineering standards, QA/QC procedures, and best practices • Oversee project financial performance, fee proposals, and scopes of work • Coordinate closely with internal architectural, structural, and MEP teams • Interface directly with clients through presentations, proposals, and meetings • Provide technical oversight during design, permitting, and construction phases • Review contractor submittals, RFIs, and perform construction observations • Champion training, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement within the team Background Sought • 12+ years of experience with a consulting or design-build electrical engineering firm • Demonstrated experience leading teams and managing project workloads • Strong technical background in power, lighting, and low-voltage systems • Solid understanding of codes, standards, and construction processes • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, electrical analysis tools, and Microsoft Office • PE license preferred; LEED accreditation a plus • Strong communicator with the ability to lead, mentor, and influence Why This Opportunity • Senior leadership role with real influence over people, standards, and culture • Balance of technical work, project leadership, and team development • Hybrid working model based out of San Jose • Competitive compensation ($175k–$210k base) depending on experience • Opportunity to help shape a growing, collaborative engineering practice 💬 This role will appeal to experienced electrical engineers who want a seat at the table, enjoy mentoring others, and are ready to take ownership of a department’s success.
