The Midwest Division Development Coordinator supports fundraising activities and provides administrative support for the Development Operations team and Directors of Philanthropy. The Coordinator may be responsible for various activities within the Midwest Division, including donor data management, annual and stewardship mailings, administrative support for Directors of Philanthropy, maintaining files, fundraising reporting, and other communications. They are responsible for data quality assurance and data entry, such as contact information or bulk data uploads. They may provide program information to prospects and donors and assist with other fundraising support. The Coordinator uses available fundraising management systems to produce donor reports, perform analysis and research, and track prospects and donors. They apply established processes and practices to improve effectiveness. The Coordinator may have substantial contact with staff, donors, legal, and financial professionals. They will perform administrative functions as required and as needed, and they will provide necessary information to make decisions and solve problems. The work environment may involve infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain. This is a full-time, hourly position with a 35-hour work week. This is a remote position that can be based anywhere within the five states of the Midwest Division: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin. They will be responsible for: Designing a strategy: The WPA faces critical strategic questions around the best path towards rapidly scaling impact on state policy. The Program Director will lead the ongoing and iterative process of creating a strategy that identifies new issue area expansion, developing service offerings to meet demand, and balancing the WPA’s need to be responsive to emergent issues while advancing long-term initiatives. They will work collaboratively with conservation and government relations staff to do this. Leading the team: The Program Director will directly manage the existing WPA team and be responsible for identifying necessary new hires. They will oversee team operations to ensure operational rigor, efficiency, and high-quality outputs. They will foster a collaborative and positive working environment. Developing products & services: The WPA has embraced a product & service approach for delivering value to internal partners. The Program Director will enable the identification, incubation, and development of new products and services with an eye towards scalability and replication. Building key partnerships and fostering collaboration: Given the North America Region (NAR) emphasis on leveraging state policy to achieve conservation outcomes, the WPA is a key partner to many in pursuing these goals. Responsibilities & Scope Design and lead collaborative, complex, and diversified projects, coordinating the work of other professionals, managing budget, and ensuring accountability. Work proactively towards implementing organizational and departmental strategic goals. Direct or participate in negotiations for complex, high profile or sensitive agreements. Ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures and external (donor/legal/IRS) requirements; decisions may have organization-wide impact and bind the organization financially or legally. Facilitate strategic dialogues with senior-level stakeholders, in order to articulate a vision, synthesize and vet plan of action, identify key issues, develop potential solutions, and implement plans to deliver targeted outcomes. Lead new programs/initiatives that will ensure program and organization-wide goals and strategies are achieved. Maintain confidentiality of frequently sensitive and emotionally charged information. Manage and implement strategic initiatives with broad impact by collaborating with key stakeholders to enhance overall performance in accordance with short and long-term objectives. We’re Looking for You: The Water Policy Accelerator (WPA) is a newly emerging center of excellence within The Nature Conservancy’s North America Agriculture program and is designed to enable the acceleration of state policy solutions for TNC’s water conservation goals across the United States. The WPA Program Director will be responsible for leading the WPA team, including strategic scaling of the WPA beyond its current scope, new product development, and team operations, growth, performance, and management. The WPA was created to facilitate the discovery of policy opportunities and the design of new policy at the intersection of water and agriculture. As a partnership between the North America Agriculture Program and the Global Conservation Campaigns Team, the WPA has been able to achieve success in its initial proof-of-concept phase through its coordinated support of state wetlands policy response and forward-looking research into the effectiveness of state nutrient reduction policies. To build upon this success, the WPA is ready and has received leadership approval to scale its capacity and expertise to provide policy research and design for a broader suite of water policy issues. The IC&EE Manager is responsible for ensuring that MAC staff are informed about and engaged in the MAC strategy and priorities, as well as the key priorities of The Nature Conservancy. They are responsible for internal communications from the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer (CMCO) and the Business Strategy and Operations Team (BSO). In this capacity they exhibit excellent, creative writing with experience in developing written communications and talking points on behalf of an executive, and the ability to learn and write in the voice of the CMCO and/or other executives. They develop and maintain expertise related to MAC and TNC subject matter priorities and are confident and comfortable interacting with executive-level leadership. They lead the execution of the employee engagement strategy and annual plans. They use data to drive decision-making related to internal communications and employee engagement. Lead and execute internal communications and employee engagement strategies for the Marketing and Communications unit, including managing all-staff meetings, newsletters, intranet content, and executive communications. | Minimum 5 years related experience, excellent writing and communication skills, project management, experience with executive-level interaction, and interest in conservation. | What We Can Achieve Together The Internal Communications and Employee Engagement (IC&EE) Specialist leads, manages, and executes internal communications and employee engagement strategies and tactics for The Nature Conservancy’s 300+ staff Marketing and Communications (MAC) business unit, and on behalf of the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer. The IC&EE Specialist is responsible for ensuring that MAC staff are informed about and engaged in the MAC strategy and priorities, as well as the key priorities of The Nature Conservancy. They lead the strategic development and tactical execution of the internal communications and employee engagement strategy and annual plans. This includes but is not limited to: developing the annual plan, informed by strategic goals, for All Staff meetings and sessions; planning, coordinating with multiple colleagues, and reviewing or creating presentation materials for all staff meetings and sessions; writing, coordinating inputs for, and publishing the monthly all staff newsletter; coordinating programming and communications for large and complex in-person and virtual all-staff conferences, gatherings, or events; creating well-designed presentations or other visual communications; and owning and actively managing the MAC intranet site. They are responsible for internal communications from the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer (CMCO). In this capacity they exhibit excellent writing with experience writing written communications and talking points on behalf of an executive, and the ability to learn and write in the voice of the CMCO and/or other executives. They develop and maintain expertise related to MAC and TNC subject matter priorities and are confident and comfortable interacting with executive-level leadership. They use data to drive decision-making related to internal communications and employee engagement, and to create digestible reports for various audiences. As the Internal Communications and Employee Engagement Specialist, you will: • Own and execute annual internal communications and employee engagement strategy, plan, and tactics for the MAC business unit. • Develop and execute annual plans for all staff meetings, including determining topic areas based on strategic goals, planning in coordination with multiple colleagues, and reviewing or creating presentation materials. • Coordinate, write, and publish MAC monthly newsletter and other all-staff internal communications. • Coordinate programming and write and send communications for large and complex all-staff conferences or gatherings. • Develop written and well-designed visual internal communications materials in support of the MAC business unit, the MAC Business Strategy & Operations team, and the leadership within the MAC business unit. • Research, plan, and execute creative and engaging virtual and/or hybrid events and other opportunities for employees to engage with each other, build rapport, and have fun. • Own and manage the strategy and content of the MAC intranet site. • Develop strategic goals and guiding principles for CMCO communications. • Develop written and visual internal communications materials on behalf of the CMCO; including writing in the voice of the CMCO for written or verbal communications. • Use data to drive decision-making and to create reports for various audiences. • Develop and maintain expertise related to MAC and TNC subject matter priorities. • Confident and comfortable interactive with executive level leadership. • Opportunity to act independently within program goals. • May work with vendors/other parties to execute projects/deliverables. • Resolve issues independently within program area. • Responsibility and accountability for meeting assigned project goals and objectives. • Some occasional travel may be required. • Other related duties as assigned. This position is open to where TNC operates globally, but work hours must be within 1-2 hours of US EST time zone. Up to 25% travel. Salary Information This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity, taking into consideration legal restrictions, such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times. For U.S. based applicants only, the starting pay range for this position is generally within the range of $59,000 - $88,000 for annual base salary and is based on location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. For all other applicants, pay ranges will be in local currency, the pay range will be based on the local labor market, and not tied to the above pay range. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment and used to determine your actual pay range. The Associate Director of Development will join a high-performing fundraising team of 10+ professionals that cover major and principal gifts, foundations and corporations, loyal donor, and estate planning in Texas with annual fundraising results in excess of $16 million. While this is a Texas Chapter position, we work with colleagues in our Great Plains Division, all 50 states and 70+ countries to implement donor-driven strategies that maximize overall giving to the Conservancy. The Associate Director of Development is responsible for building and managing a portfolio of 60-90 qualified donors, including donors with the capacity to give over $250,000, once the portfolio is developed, and building strong relationships. They understand and apply complex principles of developing donor strategies. They will be responsible for prospect development, qualification and direct asks to both global and local priorities to meet funding needs. They can discuss assets and listen for opportunities for gifts of assets or other non-cash gifts, such as planned gifts and trade lands. The Associate Director of Development provides opportunities for donors to receive recognition and increase future giving. They involve and engage appropriate partners in the field and at the Worldwide Office, keeping them apprised of interactions, issues and/or concerns, and address questions as needed. They can feature the programs of the Conservancy in detailed terms and can confidently discuss legacy giving opportunities. The Associate Director of Development understands project budgets and may build proposal budgets utilizing this knowledge. They will develop a referral network as needed and may manage formal and/or informal networks of volunteers. They will be required to use the Conservancy’s donor database and may develop proposals. • The Associate Director of Development will conduct 60-90 visits each year and prepare contact reports after each visit. They will also be responsible for 180-270 moves annually and have an annual fundraising goal of $1.5M or more, along with a goal for bequest commitments. • The Associate Director of Development will manage projects with several variables, manage a timeline, and ensure accountability and solve problems. They will work with conservation staff in both local, division and global programs to engage donors and must display curiosity and self-motivation to learn and communicate conservation goals to donors and prospects. The Associate Director of Development will be expected to understand and comply with all Conservancy gift-related policies and procedures and ensure ethical compliance, as defined by the Association for Fundraising Professionals. They will be required to use the Conservancy’s donor database. They will travel within Texas for donor meetings with occasional other travel outside of the state for trainings and work overtime as needed. The work environment may involve only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain. Assess media opportunities balancing resource use and staff time with potential reach/outcomes. • In collaboration with team members, develop and write key messages, talking points, op-eds and statements. • Develop spokespeople; provide media and message coaching and consultation to conservation, partners and other staff to prepare them for media interviews and other storytelling opportunities. • Write, pitch, and collaborate to produce stories for earned/paid media as well as other communications channels, from web to social to campaigns and more. • Assist with creation/administration of budget, manage assigned budget, evaluate results and develop recommendations for corrective strategies as needed. • Manage and organize visual assets such as photos, videos and b-roll.
