As a Technical Marketing and Business Development Manager, you will drive technical approvals and support commercial success in the Paints, Inks, and related markets, focusing on customer needs and product development initiatives. Responsibilities • Collaborate closely with Account Managers to convert technical approvals and project wins into commercial sales, aligned with North America business priorities • Deliver professional and timely technical support to customers across paper, textiles, paints, inks, and coatings markets, ensuring project needs and inquiries are fully addressed • Support successful implementation of new product launches and entry into new market segments • Act as the technical liaison between Lubrizol’s applications laboratory and customer technical teams, ensuring clear communication and effective problem-solving • Contribute to the development of technical selling tools that reinforce our value proposition and enable effective market engagement • Play a proactive role in generating and shaping new product ideas based on customer feedback and market trends • Provide deep insight into customer applications, testing methodologies, and equipment, helping inform product positioning and development • Travel approximately 50% for customer visits, technical support, and participation in internal and external meetings Skills • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field • Minimum 3 years of experience in technical marketing, business development, or customer-facing technical roles within paints, coatings, inks, or related industries • Direct technical experience and customer interaction in the paper and textiles markets (non-negotiable) • Strong technical knowledge of chemistry and formulations for paints, inks, paper or textiles • Experience with resin portfolio (e.g. waterbased acrylics, polyurethanes) • Ability to travel across North America (approximately 50%) • Excellent communication and presentation skills with proven ability to influence technical and commercial stakeholders • Results-driven mindset with strong customer focus and ability to convert technical projects into commercial success Benefits • 401K Match plus Age Weighted Defined Contribution • Comprehensive medical, dental & vision offerings • Health Savings Account • Paid Holidays, Vacation, and Parental Leave • Flexible work environment Company Overview • The Lubrizol Corporation, a Berkshire Hathaway company, is a science-based company whose specialty chemistry delivers sustainable solutions to advance mobility, improve well-being and enhance modern life. At Lubrizol we're transforming the fire systems industry with our BlazeMaster CPVC products, and looking for exceptional talent to join us on this journey. In this role, you will develop and create demand for Lubrizol’s BlazeMaster CPVC products through end user customer facing activities at the Code Approval level, Ownership consulting, Architect/Engineer design phase, and to exhibit installation expertise with the Fire Sprinkler Contractor, within a specific geographic area. Additionally, you will administer professional sales presentations, decipher fire codes at the state and local level, participate in trade shows, build relationships, and conduct installation training. Ultimately, you will execute a focused plan to ensure the increase and maintenance of BlazeMaster usage in the Commercial Fire and Residential sectors that will in-turn lead to positive sales growth internally and externally at the direct customer level. What You Will Do: • Driving loyalty and demand for BlazeMaster CPVC through relationships developed at the Ownership, Engineering, and Contractor level. • Ensure Code Approval at the State and Local levels through product education and explanation. • Specification focus, at the engineer and ownership level to ensure the usage of BlazeMaster CPVC. • Geographic Management – develop and execute an Individual Territory Plan that allocates effort efficiently across distinct types of Decision Influencers to optimize our business growth profile. • Close collaboration with Market Segment Manager on development and execution of our go-to-market strategies. • Attend and support trade shows and conferences to promote the benefits of BlazeMaster within the Commercial & Residential Fire sector. • High quality and timely CRM reporting per established guidelines and assigned KPI’s (Engineer L&L’s, Sales activities, Project deals, Specifications, and trainings). • Develop a thorough understanding of technology, key product attributes, applications, and performance requirements in the focus market segment. • Identify, develop, and implement business development initiatives that open the available market for BlazeMaster (e.g., new codes and standards that allow our product categories) Skills That Make A Difference • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university preferred, or relevant equivalent experience • Minimum of 5 years of sales experience in the Fire Sprinkler Sector • Ordinary and Light Hazard Fire Sprinkler Applications preferred. • Ability to travel domestically (60%+) • Demonstrated abilities and successes in implementing new product, solution, technology, and value selling programs. • Excellent sales and communication skills, as demonstrated by the ability to develop and deliver professional presentations. • Candidate must reside in the Los Angeles area.
