Design, develop, and deploy enterprise-grade software applications and cloud-native solutions. | 10+ years software engineering experience with strong skills in .NET, cloud platforms, and front-end frameworks. | The Mechanical Field Engineer (FE) is primarily responsible for supporting design, operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of critical mechanical systems across our data center portfolio. This role will be the centralized mechanical technical subject matter expert for all site/campus acting as a resident engineer, resource for the Director of Campus/Site Operations (DSO), Critical Facility Manager (CFM), Critical Engineering Technicians (CETs), and any third-party vendors. This role involves hands-on field engineering, root cause analysis, vendor oversight, project execution, and cross functional collaboration to ensure the highest levels of reliability, safety, efficiency, and uptime for all mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data centers. The ideal candidate brings deep technical engineering and troubleshooting expertise in mechanical systems (air-cooled chillers, CRAHs, water treatment, liquid-cooling loops, etc.) supporting mission critical facilities. The FE engineer may direct, train, and support site operations during construction, commissioning and production operation by providing hands-on mechanical equipment troubleshooting, RFI input, and corrective maintenance. Implementation and execution of site/equipment-specific training exercises is also expected. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Lead or support data center mechanical system design efforts, integrating new technologies while balancing cost, efficiency, speed to delivery, and sustainability • Research, design, and develop cooling technologies and mechanical system improvements to enhance reliability, efficiency, and speed-to-market • Provide mechanical subject matter expertise on cooling strategies, system topology, and infrastructure performance • Perform design and equipment submittal reviews for new data centers and site upgrades • Support standardization of mechanical designs across regions and promote consistency, reliability, and best practices • Serve as an onsite technical resource of mechanical infrastructure systems and equipment, with an emphasis on safe practical field operation • Provide Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QAQC) oversight of construction projects & maintenance activity within operations space • Plan resource, author or approve work procedures to cover troubleshooting, repair, retrofit, and maintenance activities, with an emphasis on assessing & mitigating personnel and critical systems and operational risk • This role may include up to 25% travel to other data centers, factory witness testing, and specialty technical schools RESPONSIBILITIES: • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of critical cooling and mechanical equipment such as AHUs, CRAH units, chillers, water treatment systems, pumps, and associated controls • Ensure proper preventive maintenance, inspections, and performance assessments to uphold high uptime standards • Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis (RCA), and implement corrective actions for mechanical system incidents and failures • Act as resident engineer during data center construction and retrofits, providing onsite technical direction and validating installation quality • Manage concurrent engineering projects, ensuring they meet scope, timelines, safety expectations, and design intent • Support conceptual design for infrastructure upgrades and modernization initiatives • Coordinate spare parts planning, procurement, and inventory management for mechanical assets • Collaborate with civil, structural, electrical, controls, IT, and operations teams to deliver holistic solutions optimized for performance and scalability • Work closely with site selection, construction, and design teams during planning and execution phases • Assist site operations teams in maintaining the site-specific preventive maintenance and work order program under guidance from the Availability and Maintenance team • Using knowledge of the systems in place, coupled with performance data collected, evaluate the performance of systems, and suggest cost-effective improvements to service and operating efficiency • Ensure the availability of an adequate inventory of tools and other supplies to operate the building • Protect and improve the value of our assets and ensure that building machinery and systems meet or exceed their expected life • Provide feedback on global maintenance strategies and global system design improvements to reliability and design engineering groups • Communicate lessons learned and best practices across the portfolio with other operational leaders • Review design drawings for accuracy and provide feedback to Engineer of Record and Design Engineering on upcoming construction projects Requirements QUALIFICATIONS / (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES) • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical field; advanced degree preferred. • 5+ years' experience in design, operation, or maintenance of data center mechanical systems. • Experience with building and mechanical system controls (EPMS/SCADA/BMS). • Ability to interpret and produce construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation. • Familiarity with safety codes and standards such as ASHRAE, NFPA, ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NETA, and UBC. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Professional Engineering (PE) license or progress toward certification. • Experience with largescale data center deployments across multiregional footprints. • Background in mechanical system design, standardization, and global engineering programs. • Experience with Microsoft Azure or similar cloud infrastructure environments. • Strong project management and communication skills; ability to manage competing priorities. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the Director of GAM + Business Operations and ensuring excellent service delivery to our customers. You will act as a liaison between our technical teams and customers, managing inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring that our customers receive the highest level of support. The role is remote however occasional in office meetings may occur in the Dallas area. For collaboration a strong prefrence is the individual is based in the Dallas area. POSITION OVERVIEW As Senior Controls Engineer, Design & Operations, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality cradle-to-grave lifecycle of data center controls systems/solutions from design through end of life (EOL). Additionally, you will be responsible for overseeing the commissioning, deployment, and maintenance further optimizing the controls systems that operate our data centers. This includes programming and troubleshooting various control systems, including HVAC, electrical, and fire suppression systems. You will work closely with the Central Operations (Site Ops, Reliability Engineering etc.) team to ensure that all systems operate efficiently and meet our high standards for uptime and reliability. This position is for one of the following markets: Phoenix, Dallas, Chicago, Atlanta or San Antonio. Travel is expected to be between 20-30% to regional data center sites across the U.S. as needed. Additional travel may be necessary to support new market builds and supplier collaboration. RESPONSIBILITIES Support development and delivery of standards and specifications such as basis of design, OPRs, SOOs, point-and-alert lists, graphics, dashboards, reporting, training, and SoW documentation to ensure data center design requirements are maintained. Lead design and construction administration as an Owner Representative leading the controls engineering discipline as a subject matter expert. Collaborate with multiple stakeholders including internal partners such as Design and Construction, Quality, Safety, and Operations as well as external partners including Engineers of Record (EoR), general contractors, controls vendors, and equipment vendors to deliver data center capacity safely, on time, within budget, and of high quality. Oversee diagram and screen development for controls, network, BMS, EPMS, workflows, and processes. Support Site Ops Controls Subject Matter Experts (CSME). Work with our contractors and vendors to develop intelligent control systems and ensure optimal electrical and mechanical performance. Evaluate and propose strategies to optimize the interplay of electrical and mechanical systems for enhanced data center performance and stability. Ensure compliance with tenant lease requirements and iterate specifications and standards to align with lease requirements. Lead projects through concept, schematic, design development, construction documents, construction administration and turn-over as Controls technical domain lead on greenfield and retrofits projects. Prepare and issue Request for Proposals (RFP), analyze and make award recommendations, manage and administer project/program level contracts, review/approve change cost proposals, value engineering proposals, invoices, shop drawings, submittals, requests for information, reports/audits/studies and other design related deliverables. Lead development and initiate standards and methods for processes, control logic and sequences, testing, evaluation, and integration. Collaborate and engage with the Commissioning Team, with focus on area walk downs, critical benchmarks, systems integration and operation, issue resolution, commissioning script review and implementation, and providing technical support and guidance on design and operational related matters. Drive project schedules while working closely with design and construction to ensure milestones and completion dates are on track. Drive opportunities to compress schedules proactively and in response to business needs Travel to datacenter sites for engineering studies, mechanical/electrical systems audits, startup testing, and full commissioning, as required. Travel to various equipment and bench testing sites, as well as remotely located design working sessions. Occasionally, work outside of normal working hours to respond on an as-needed basis to emergencies and site events. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS In-depth knowledge on communication protocols, including Modbus, BACnet, MQTT, OPC Thorough understanding of PLC programming language, architecture, and configuration. Experience developing and interpreting sequence of operations (SOO). 5+ years’ experience design through deployment of critical environment controls systems.
