Lead a team of engineers to build and modernize cloud-native SaaS applications for the marine industry. | 7+ years software engineering with management experience, hands-on technical leadership in Node.js, React, and TypeScript, and AI-assisted development expertise. | About Storable At Storable, we're redefining property management for specialty real estate. Tailored for the marine industry, Storable Marine empowers marinas, boat clubs and rental operations with the industry's most comprehensive technology platform. Our solutions span management software, service management, rental tools, websites, payments, and more to streamline operations, enhance customer experiences, and maximize revenue. Explore our platform solutions at storablemarine.com. Overview Storable is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead software development for our Marine Division (Storable Marine), building the software that powers the day-to-day operations of marinas, boatyards, yacht clubs, boat clubs, harbors, service yards, and other waterfront businesses. Our platform supports the workflows operators rely on to manage slips, docks, moorings, and dry storage; reservations and online bookings; boater and guest management; point of sale; payments and billing; customer and vessel records; digital waivers; service management; and other industry-specific needs. As the Engineering Manager for our Marine platform, you will lead a team of around 10 engineers building and modernizing cloud-native SaaS applications used by marina operators and their boaters around the world. Your team works across the stack primarily in Node.js, React, and TypeScript, with PHP powering our rentals product and some legacy .NET in our core marina management system (MMS), all supported by AI-assisted engineering workflows. Above all, this is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will stay close to the architecture, code, and day-to-day realities of the systems so you can make credible technical calls, review designs and code with authority, and dig into hard problems alongside your engineers. You pair traditional engineering discipline with modern, AI-enabled execution, raising the bar for how the team builds, communicates, and delivers. What you'll do every day • Lead a high-performing team of engineers building and modernizing cloud-native SaaS applications used by marinas, boatyards, and other waterfront businesses worldwide. • Define and execute a product-aligned engineering strategy that advances Storable’s Marine platform and supports the broader business roadmap. • Stay technically hands-on where it counts: pairing with engineers in the code, reviewing designs and pull requests, and weighing in on architecture to keep direction grounded in the realities of the codebase. • Translate business priorities into actionable engineering roadmaps with clear KPIs, milestones, and success metrics for your team. • Oversee the design, development, and scaling of mission-critical applications, ensuring stability, performance, security, and readiness for regulatory and compliance frameworks. • Drive modernization initiatives that evolve legacy systems into distributed, service-oriented architectures, leveraging AI-assisted tooling to explore options, de-risk migrations, and move faster without compromising quality. • Champion best-in-class engineering practices, including automated testing, code quality, observability, effective use of CI/CD pipelines, and thoughtful AI-assisted development workflows. • Recruit, manage, coach, and grow a diverse team of engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, continuous learning, and responsible AI adoption. • Lead incident response for your team’s services in partnership with our dedicated DevOps team, continuously improving reliability, uptime, and cost-efficiency. • Partner closely with Product, Operations, Client Success, and other stakeholders across the U.S. and Storable’s global hubs to align technology delivery with user and business needs, clearly explaining technical decisions and tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical audiences. How you'll lead with AI • Set clear standards and guardrails for AI-assisted development, including how AI-generated code is reviewed for correctness, security, maintainability, and fit within the broader system before anything ships. • Coach engineers on effective use of tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT, or similar platforms, helping them know when AI can safely accelerate the work and when careful human judgment is required. • Identify and sponsor internal AI-enabled tools, automations, and workflows that reduce repetitive engineering work, improve developer experience, and free the team to focus on higher-leverage problems. • Critically evaluate AI-generated designs, code, and documentation, ensuring your team improves and integrates outputs thoughtfully rather than accepting them blindly. • Measure and communicate the impact of AI-assisted workflows on speed, quality, and delivery, using data to continuously refine how the team applies AI. What you need to bring • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. • 7+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including direct experience managing and growing engineering teams. • Proven track record delivering cloud-based SaaS products at scale in fast-paced, growth-oriented environments. • Deep, hands-on engineering background building and shipping production web applications with Node.js and React (TypeScript/JavaScript), with the technical depth to review designs and code, reason through complex systems, mentor senior engineers, and guide transitions from legacy systems to cloud-native, service-oriented architectures. • Demonstrated, day-to-day fluency with AI-assisted development tools (such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, ChatGPT, or similar) and an AI-forward mindset for improving engineering workflows, code quality, and team performance. • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience collaborating across functions and geographies and explaining technical decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, along with a working understanding of AWS, scalable infrastructure, application security, and Agile/Lean development practices. Bonus points • Experience modernizing legacy systems or incrementally refactoring older codebases while maintaining reliability for production users. • Experience working on SaaS products that power industry-specific operational workflows, such as point of sale, reservations and bookings, payments, customer management, service/work-order management, channel management, or marketplace-style systems. • Experience in marine, marina, or waterfront hospitality software, or adjacent field-service and asset-management domains. • Experience building internal AI-enabled tools, automations, or workflows for engineering teams, and mentoring engineers on effective prompting, AI-assisted code review, and AI-driven development practices. • Experience defining and tracking engineering performance indicators (for example, velocity, uptime, release quality, and cost efficiency) and using those insights to improve team outcomes. Software Engineer II, RVC

StorableAnywhereFull-time
View Job
Compensation$70K - 90K a year

Develop and maintain custom WordPress themes, plugins, and integrations using AI-assisted development tools ensuring security and maintainability. | 3-5 years experience in WordPress, PHP, MySQL with strong AI coding tool fluency and a bachelor's or postgraduate degree. | Storable is seeking a Software Engineer II to join our RV & Camping (RVC) Division and help build the Newbook Websites product, the software behind the customer-facing, booking-enabled websites that RV parks, campgrounds, holiday parks, and other outdoor hospitality businesses use to showcase their properties and take reservations online. Our Newbook platform supports the workflows operators rely on to manage sites and accommodation, reservations and online bookings, guest and vehicle records, point of sale, payments and billing, digital waivers and agreements, housekeeping and maintenance, reporting, and other industry-specific needs. The Websites product is WordPress-based and integrates closely with the broader Newbook platform, so hands-on WordPress experience is required for this role. We are looking for an engineer with solid software engineering fundamentals, hands-on experience building and maintaining production WordPress systems, and a demonstrated ability to use AI as a core part of their engineering workflow. The ideal candidate uses AI coding tools as a meaningful part of their day-to-day work. They understand how to apply them thoughtfully across the software development lifecycle: exploring unfamiliar code, accelerating implementation, generating and refining tests, debugging issues, weighing implementation options, improving documentation, and reducing repetitive engineering work. Just as importantly, they know how to review AI-generated output with sound engineering judgment, validating correctness, security, maintainability, and fit within the broader system before anything ships. This is a role for someone who combines solid engineering fundamentals with an AI-native approach to building software. You should be comfortable using tools such as Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar AI-assisted development platforms as a normal part of your daily workflow, with clear examples of how these tools have improved your speed, quality, decision-making, or technical output. About the Role As a Software Engineer II on the Newbook Websites team, you will contribute to the development and improvement of the WordPress-based websites that Newbook operators use to market their parks and take bookings online. You will work primarily in WordPress and PHP, backed by MySQL, with modern JavaScript, HTML, and CSS on the frontend; React experience is a plus for select frontend work but is not the core of the role. Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and deployment environments is helpful, but this role is primarily focused on building and improving application software within WordPress. You will be expected to bring both traditional software engineering discipline and modern AI-enabled execution. That means writing reliable, maintainable code; developing a strong understanding of the WordPress themes, plugins, and integrations you work in; making pragmatic technical decisions within your scope; communicating clearly with engineers and non-engineers; and using AI tools thoughtfully to move faster, improve quality, and reduce repetitive engineering work. What You'll Do Develop new features and improvements for the Newbook Websites product, building and maintaining custom WordPress themes, plugins, and integrations that connect operator websites to the Newbook platform and booking flows. Use AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, debugging, testing, refactoring, documentation, technical discovery, and design work. Apply solid engineering fundamentals when reviewing AI-generated code, ensuring correctness, security, maintainability, and alignment with WordPress and system architecture. Build reliable frontend experiences with modern JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, applying React where appropriate for more interactive components. Integrate WordPress with the Newbook platform and third-party services via REST APIs, webhooks, and the WordPress REST API. Collaborate with infrastructure and platform teams when application work touches CI/CD, AWS services, deployment workflows, monitoring, or reliability concerns. Help reduce technical debt through thoughtful refactoring and incremental improvements to the themes, plugins, and code you work in. Care about performance, accessibility, SEO, and security across the customer-facing websites we ship. Troubleshoot internal bugs and customer-reported issues effectively, balancing speed with long-term code quality. Collaborate with product managers, designers, support teams, and other engineers to translate business and customer needs into reliable technical solutions. Participate actively in collaborative development practices, including stand-ups, retrospectives, backlog refinement, and technical design discussions, and contribute to technical design documents for the work you own. Write and maintain unit, integration, and functional tests to ensure confidence in the systems we build. Explore new tools, technologies, and AI-enabled workflows that can improve your productivity and the quality of what you ship. What We're Looking For 3–5 years of practical software engineering experience, preferably including experience building and maintaining production web applications. Required: hands-on, production WordPress experience, including building and maintaining custom themes and/or plugins, working with WordPress hooks (actions and filters), the block editor, and the WordPress REST API. Solid development experience with PHP and MySQL, plus modern JavaScript, HTML, and CSS on the frontend. Experience with TypeScript and React is a plus. Experience shipping software in real-world production environments where reliability, maintainability, and customer impact matter. Solid software engineering fundamentals, with demonstrated experience using AI-assisted development tools as part of a modern engineering workflow. Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools as a normal part of day-to-day engineering work. Strong ability to evaluate, correct, and improve AI-generated code rather than accepting outputs blindly. A working understanding of software architecture, debugging, testing, performance, scalability, and technical tradeoffs (including the performance, security, and SEO considerations specific to customer-facing WordPress sites). Some exposure to cloud infrastructure, CI/CD systems, AWS services, serverless functions, deployment workflows, or related infrastructure tooling is helpful, but not required. Good problem-solving skills and the ability to break down technical challenges into clear, executable steps. Strong communication skills. You should be able to explain your technical decisions clearly to technical and non-technical teammates through async updates, documentation, and collaborative discussion. A collaborative mindset and a willingness to give and receive feedback, share what you learn, and grow alongside the team. How We Expect Engineers to Use AI We are especially interested in engineers who treat AI as a serious engineering tool and can point to practical ways it has improved how they build software. You should be comfortable using AI to: Explore implementation options, compare technical tradeoffs, and help think through the recommended path forward. Generate first drafts of code, tests, documentation, diagrams, scripts, and migration plans. Debug unfamiliar systems and reason through complex code paths, including legacy WordPress themes and plugins. Refactor legacy code safely and incrementally. Improve your velocity without compromising quality. Validate assumptions and pressure-test technical decisions. Build internal tools, automation, and workflows that reduce repetitive engineering work. Review AI-generated work critically for correctness, maintainability, security, and product fit. We value engineers who know when AI can accelerate the work, and when careful human judgment is required. Technical Experience We do not expect every candidate to have deep experience in every technology listed below. Solid experience in several of these areas — with production WordPress experience being required — combined with the ability to learn quickly and use AI effectively, is what matters most. Primary technologies and tools may include: WordPress (custom themes and plugins, multisite, hooks, block editor, WordPress REST API) — required PHP MySQL JavaScript / TypeScript HTML / CSS REST APIs (including WordPress REST API and Newbook platform integrations) React (secondary; a plus rather than a core requirement) Testing frameworks AI-assisted development tools, including systems such as Codex, Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar coding assistants and agentic development tools Nice to Have Experience running WordPress at scale, including multisite, caching, and performance optimization. Experience with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) and Gutenberg/block development Experience integrating WordPress with third-party APIs, booking engines, or payment providers. Experience modernizing legacy systems or incrementally refactoring older WordPress or PHP codebases. Experience working in SaaS products serving industry-specific operational workflows. Experience with point of sale, reservations, bookings, payments, customer management, or marketplace-style systems. Experience in travel, hospitality, or outdoor hospitality (RV parks, campgrounds, holiday parks) software. Experience building internal AI-enabled tools or workflows for engineering teams. Education Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is helpful, but equivalent professional experience is equally valued. The Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a capable engineer with solid fundamentals, real production WordPress multisite experience, and a high level of fluency with modern AI-assisted development tools. You know how to reason through the systems you work in, debug difficult problems, weigh tradeoffs, and ship reliable software. You also know how to use AI to move faster, explore more options, improve quality, and reduce repetitive engineering work. You bring curiosity, growing technical depth, strong communication habits, and modern execution speed. You are the kind of engineer who can help Storable RV&C build better software faster while continuing to sharpen your craft and your use of AI in day-to-day engineering.
