We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Project Engineer to lead the technical design, engineering, and execution of complex utility-scale and commercial Energy Storage Systems (ESS). The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in power electric systems, including Power Conversion Systems (PCS), battery technologies, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA). This role requires a strong background in electrical design, as well as an advanced understanding of data control systems architecture critical for ESS performance and grid integration. Key Responsibilities: ESS Design and Optimization: Lead the complete electrical and control system design for ESS projects, ensuring compliance with all relevant codes, standards (e.g., UL, IEE, NEC), and utility requirements. Optimize system performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Component Specification: Define detailed technical specifications for major ESS components, including lithium-ion batteries (cells, modules, racks), Power Conversion Systems (PCS), medium and high-voltage balance of plant (BOP), and thermal management systems. System Integration: Manage the technical integration of all power electric subsystems, ensuring seamless interaction between the PCS, Battery Management System (BMS), and the plant-level SCADA/control system. Controls and Data Systems: Design and manage the implementation of the project's data acquisition, monitoring, and control system architecture coordinating with internal BMS engineers and SCADA partners. This includes defining telemetry points, communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, DNP3), and logic for ESS operation, protection, and grid services (e.g., frequency regulation, capacity firming, renewable energy integration). Engineering Oversight: Review and approve engineering deliverables from internal teams, vendors, and external engineering firms (e.g., one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, physical layouts, protection and control settings). Engineering and Technical Deliverables: Oversee the creation of comprehensive technical documentation for each project. This includes developing the system-level single-line diagram for the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), designing the SCADA network architecture diagram, and preparing the detailed electrical and controls specifications for the BESS. Ensure these deliverables meet all project requirements and industry standards, and facilitate effective integration and operation of the energy storage system within the overall plant infrastructure. Technical Support: Provide expert technical support throughout the project lifecycle, from initial concept and permitting to construction, commissioning, and handover. Standards and Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in energy storage technology, grid codes, and data/control system practives to drive continuous improvement and innovation in ESS design. Required Expertise and Knowledge Power Electric Systems and Safety • In-depth knowledge of Power Conversion Systems (PCS) operation, control modes (grid-forming/following), performance characteristics, and integration into AC/DC electrical systems. • Comprehensive understanding of various battery chemistries (primarily Li-ion), their aging characteristics, thermal management requirements, and associated Battery Management Systems (BMS) functionality. • Expertise in medium and high-voltage electrical design, including transformers, switchgear, protective relaying, grounding, and lightning protection. • Strong knowledge of key energy storage safety standards and certifications, including NFPA 855, NFPA 68, NFPA 69, NFPA 70, and NFPA 70E. Experienced with UL 9540 and UL 9540A standards for energy storage equipment and safety testing. Familiar with international IEC and IEEE standards like IEC 62933, IEC 62477, and IEEE 1547, which set requirements for safety, performance, and system integration. Skilled at working with recognized testing laboratories to ensure equipment and designs meet regulatory and safety requirements. In this customer-facing role, Sr. Sales Manager will be responsible for originating, developing, and closing complex, large-scale battery energy storage (BESS) projects. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of the renewable energy market, is adept at managing long sales cycles, and can effectively coordinate with cross-functional internal teams to ensure project success.   Key Responsibilities: - Sales and Pipeline Management - Design and implement a comprehensive sales strategy to meet or exceed quarterly and annual revenue goals for utility-scale battery energy storage projects. - Oversee and actively manage a dynamic pipeline of sales opportunities -including short-, medium-, and long-term prospects - with utilities, independent power producers, and renewable energy developers through prioritization and account feasibility analysis by evaluating IX status, financial status, peremitting status, etc. - Proactively source, engage, and qualify new clients and project leads by continuously expanding the customer base and identifying emerging business opportunities.   - Client Relationships and Market Expansion - Establish and maintain robust, long-term relationships with key customers, partners, and stakeholders to foster trust and drive repeat business. - Proactively represent SKOn at industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events to enhance the company's visibility and expand its presence with the energy storage sector. - Continuously monitor market trends, competitor strategies, and regulatory developments to deliver strategic insights and support effective market penetration initiatives. -Proposal and Contract Management - Develop and deliver detailed, high-quality project proposals tailored to the needs of utilities, developers, and independent power producers - including comprehensive responses to complex Requests for Proposals (RFPs). - Oversee and lead the negotiation and management of sophisticated contracts, such as Energy Storage Procurement Contracts (including Master Supply Agreements), Long-Term Service Agreements (LTSA), and system integration agreements, ensuring successful execution and closure.   Qualifications - Educational Background: A bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or business and economics or a related field. MBA is a plus - Experience: At least 5 years in a technical sales or account management, business development role within the BESS industry, focusing on utility-scale projects.
