Own end-to-end talent and people strategy including recruiting, HR systems, culture, performance frameworks, and organizational design. | 8-12+ years in talent and people operations in high-growth tech companies with hands-on recruiting and deep HRIS, compensation, and organizational strategy expertise. | About Scanner Companies should be able to ask any question of any real-world data set, even massive ones, and get an answer effectively instantly. That's the future we're building. We're starting with security teams, who face this problem most acutely: searching massive log volumes to detect threats, investigate incidents, and hunt for compromised systems. We're expanding to infrastructure teams, DevOps, and SREs with similar challenges across observability data and system logs. Ultimately, any team dealing with large-scale data should have instant answers. Scanner is a Security Data Lake that lets teams search and detect across petabytes of data in seconds, retain everything forever, and maintain full custody of their data. Ramp, Notion, Confluent, and BeyondTrust use Scanner to analyze security logs faster, and on more data, than ever before. Our customers span fintech, healthtech, AI, and banking. At conferences like AWS re:Invent, we run 30+ demos over four days. The demand is real and scaling up. We're also the Security Data Lake built for AI. More than a third of our customers have built agents on Scanner since we launched MCP support weeks ago, for automated investigation, detection engineering, and alert triage. Traditional systems are too slow and expensive for AI to iterate on. Scanner isn't. We're 25 full-time, funded by Sequoia, CRV, SVCI, and Mantis VC, and growing fast. You'll join a high-trust team where your work shapes our story, pipeline, and revenue trajectory. The Role We're looking for a Director of Talent & People Operations to own how Scanner attracts, hires, develops, and retains exceptional people as we enter our next stage of growth. You'll take over the Talent and People foundation currently managed by our Head of Operations including recruiting, HRIS, payroll, benefits, and employee operations and build the strategy and systems we need as the company scales. You'll own recruiting across Engineering, Product, Sales, and Marketing, alongside workforce planning, People Operations, performance, manager enablement, employee experience, and culture. This is a hands-on builder role: you'll develop the strategy while still running critical searches, closing candidates, coaching managers, solving People issues, and building the processes that help Scanner grow without lowering our talent bar or adding unnecessary bureaucracy. What you'll own Talent Strategy & Recruiting Own company-wide talent strategy and translate headcount plans into proactive hiring strategies across technical and GTM functions. Build a recruiting engine that supports rapid growth while maintaining an exceptional talent bar. Personally lead critical senior, technical, executive, and difficult-to-fill searches. Build strong outbound sourcing capabilities and determine where agencies and external partners can add leverage. Partner with hiring managers on role definition, calibration, interview design, candidate evaluation, and closing. Recruiting Operations Own recruiting infrastructure including the ATS, scheduling, interview processes, offers, reporting, and agency management. Build scalable hiring processes, interviewer training, and operating rhythms that improve velocity, candidate experience, and quality of hire. Track pipeline health, funnel conversion, sourcing effectiveness, time-to-hire, and hiring outcomes. People Operations Own HRIS, payroll, benefits, compliance, employee records, leave administration, onboarding, and the employee lifecycle. Build scalable approaches to compensation, leveling, promotions, performance management, and career development. Continuously evolve our People systems and processes so they stay ahead of company growth. Culture, Managers & Employee Experience Partner with founders and leadership to intentionally evolve Scanner's culture while preserving what makes the company effective today. Build lightweight programs around onboarding, engagement, communication, recognition, team connection, and employee feedback. Coach managers on hiring, feedback, performance, development, compensation, and difficult employee situations. Build practical performance and manager-development systems that create accountability without unnecessary process. Organizational Strategy Partner with founders and functional leaders on workforce planning, organizational design, compensation, and future talent needs. Identify organizational gaps and talent risks before they become constraints on growth. Use People and recruiting data to inform decisions around hiring, retention, organizational health, and investment. What you bring 8–12+ years across Talent, Recruiting, and People, with substantial experience in high-growth technology companies. Firsthand experience helping a company rapidly double or triple in size and building the Talent and People infrastructure required to support that growth. Deep recruiting expertise across both technical roles including Engineering and Product and GTM roles across Sales and Marketing. Proven ability to build recruiting programs, People systems, processes, and operating rhythms from an earlier stage. Strong hands-on recruiting ability: you're still comfortable sourcing, running searches, interviewing, and closing difficult candidates. Strong People Operations fundamentals across HRIS, payroll, benefits, compensation, compliance, onboarding, performance, and the employee lifecycle. Experience shaping culture and employee experience through a period of significant company growth. Strong judgment and experience partnering directly with founders and leaders on organizational design, talent planning, compensation, performance, and sensitive People issues. Highly operational and data-driven, with the ability to move constantly between strategy and execution while introducing structure without bureaucracy. Nice to have Experience joining a company around 20–50 employees and helping scale it through 100+. Experience building an internal recruiting function that previously relied heavily on agencies. Experience recruiting deeply technical infrastructure, distributed systems, database, or security engineers. Experience building compensation, leveling, or manager-development frameworks. Why you'll love working here You'll help build the company itself. Few roles have more influence over who joins Scanner, how we operate, and what kind of company we become. The timing is unusually impactful. We're small enough for you to shape the foundation and growing quickly enough that what you build will immediately matter. This is a builder role, not a caretaker role. You'll turn a working foundation into the Talent and People strategy, systems, and organization required for our next stages of growth. Culture is part of the job. You'll have meaningful ownership over how Scanner's culture and employee experience evolve as the organization gets larger. Stay hands-on. Work directly with founders and functional leaders while continuing to recruit, build programs, solve problems, and do the work. Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary, meaningful equity, and comprehensive benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k, commuter). Hybrid/remote-friendly with regular in-person collaboration in San Francisco, Mountain View, and Seattle.
Manage deployment, upgrade, and operational processes for SaaS and customer infrastructure ensuring efficiency and uptime. | 5+ years in DevOps/SRE with deep AWS and infrastructure-as-code expertise. | To help avoid bots and fake submissions we require email authentication after you submit your application About Scanner At Scanner, we’re committed to building the best tools in the world (in Rust!) for teams to search and query through enormous piles of data. Whether you're debugging a distributed system, or monitoring a sprawling backend deployment for security risks, so many problems that modern engineering teams face are ultimately about sifting through giant haystacks in search of small but valuable needles. Scanner provides a magical user experience with ⚡ fast queries, allowing teams to manage massive data sets with far more ease than they can with existing tools. What We Built We believe Data Lakes are the future of security data. Scanner is the world's fastest full-text search and detection platform for Security Data Lakes. Security teams can now search years and petabytes of logs in seconds (up to 700x faster than alternatives), eliminate SIEM coverage blind spots at 70-80% lower cost, and deploy in a day, all while maintaining full custody of their data in their own S3 buckets. We believe security tools should scale with your data, not your budget. Teams shouldn't have to choose between comprehensive coverage and financial sustainability. The Team We're an early-stage team where every person has outsized impact on what we build and how we serve customers. People join Scanner because they want to: Solve genuinely hard technical problems - Making petabyte-scale search feel instant requires deep systems thinking and novel approaches. Work pragmatically and move fast - We ship quality products quickly by focusing on what actually matters to customers. Have direct impact - Talk to users, shape product direction, and see your work make a difference immediately We're builders focused on creating genuinely transformative tools for security teams dealing with massive data challenges. The Role We're looking for a DevOps Engineer to own how Scanner gets deployed, upgraded, and operated everywhere it runs. We currently ship two ways: a managed SaaS where we run every piece of the infrastructure in our own AWS accounts, and a Bring Your Own Cloud deployment where we provision the data plane directly into the customer's AWS account. You'll own that system end to end. The infrastructure you’ll run indexes and queries hundreds of terabytes to petabytes of logs per day, across dozens of accounts, so efficiency, observability, and uptime are all paramount. A strong candidate will have: A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in infrastructure, DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering. Deep AWS fluency (IAM, VPC and networking, ECS, Lambda, S3) and production experience with infrastructure-as-code like Pulumi, Terraform, or CDK across multiple accounts and regions. Experience owning CI/CD end to end. A strong focus on building systems using the principle of least privilege, and focusing on a security posture that enterprises expect: tightly scoped roles, minimal cross-account trust, private networking, compliance evidence for SOC 2 Type II. A strong operations instinct for observability, incident response, and cost efficiency at scale. Comfort writing TypeScript (our Pulumi code) and reading Rust well enough to debug a service you didn't write. You don't need to have shipped Rust before. Comfort working in a fast-paced and low process environment. Our Tech Stack Talented engineers can pick up new languages and frameworks quickly. Here’s what our tech stack looks like today, but if you come with a better way of doing things we’re flexible and committed to building the best tools for our customers no matter what! We use infrastructure-as-code tools like Pulumi to manage our deployments and cloud infrastructure. Our query system leverages highly burstable compute provided by serverless components like Amazon Lambdas. We use S3 to store logs at scale and MySQL to store metadata. Our log ingestion pipeline runs in Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS). We use Rust throughout the backend, giving us extremely fast performance with strong security guarantees. Our frontend is written using Svelte and TypeScript. Why you’ll love working here Impact & ownership: Join a small, high-trust team where your work directly impacts our users. Ambitious product: We solve hard problems with massive scale log search, threat hunting, and observability for cloud-native infrastructure. Fast-paced team & culture: We’re lean, collaborative and high-velocity. Growth & autonomy: We trust you to take major ownership, give you the space to grow, and we’ll support your professional development. Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary, meaningful equity, and comprehensive benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k, commuter). Hybrid-friendly with regular in-person collaboration in San Francisco. To help avoid bots and fake submissions we require email authentication after you submit your application
