Lead technical direction and architecture for AI voice agent products, build end-to-end voice experiences, mentor engineers, and establish AI-assisted development patterns. | 8+ years software engineering experience, proficiency in Go, TypeScript, Python, and experience with LLM or agent-based products. | Who we are Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale. Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, and Equipment Monitoring. As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term. About the role Join Samsara's In-Vehicle Experience team as a Senior Software Engineer. You'll be the technical leader of the team, setting the direction for what we build and how. We are building AI voice experiences that speak to, coach, and assist drivers as they work, spanning proactive assistance, on-demand interaction, and the range of situations in between. We are looking for the product-minded full-stack engineer who will figure out what those experiences should be, ship them, and build the systems that let them evolve into one coherent product rather than a set of disconnected tools. You'll design what agents say and how they behave, build the services that support them, and iterate on both based on what drivers actually experience. These systems sit at the intersection of software, AI, and the physical world. Because drivers interact with our products while operating a vehicle, decisions about what reaches them, and when, carry real weight. The systems underneath are where the hard-to-reverse decisions live. How agents share context, how concurrent interactions get arbitrated, and how the system's decisions can be explained after the fact. You'll decide what's worth building, and own the systems that make it possible. You'll ship against clear priorities from day one. We are looking for someone whose instinct is to shape the direction of the team's work, not just execute against it. Putting forward a point of view, making the case for it, and getting the team moving in a new direction is core to how this person operates. Engineers who habitually notice what should improve and then make it happen, rather than waiting to be told, will find this kind of role familiar. AI-assisted engineering is central to this role. You will be expected to use tools such as Codex, Claude Code, and Cursor proficiently throughout the software development lifecycle, not only for code generation but also for investigation, design, testing, review, and operational work. This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US. In this role, you will: Define what to build and how to build it, shaping product direction from the engineering side. Build and ship voice agent experiences from zero to one in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment. Iterate quickly based on real interactions. Own the technical direction for how these experiences coordinate: how they share context, how concurrent interactions get arbitrated, how the system holds up as more experiences are added, and how its real-time decisions can be investigated by the teams that need to. Make and document architectural tradeoffs where requirements are still evolving, favoring foundations that generalize as new use cases emerge over one-off solutions that don't. Serve as the team's technical anchor: review designs, unblock decisions, and mentor engineers as they expand into unfamiliar technical domains. Introduce new patterns for full-stack and AI-assisted engineering, and get the team using them. Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices. Minimum requirements for the role: 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of products from concept through production. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. Recent, primary experience shipping LLM/agent based products end-to-end, including evaluation of AI behavior in production. Experience with memory, context, or retrieval systems for AI applications (e.g., RAG pipelines, vector databases, long-lived session context). Strong programming and design fundamentals (Go, TypeScript, Python). Experience designing APIs and service boundaries that other systems rely on. Experience setting technical direction on a team and mentoring other engineers. Strong communication skills and the ability to influence technical direction without formal authority. Located in and authorized to work in the United States or Canada (this is a fully remote role). An ideal candidate also has: Experience building zero-to-one products in fast-moving, high-autonomy environments. Experience building persistent memory or personalization systems where agents learn about users over time. Lead technical projects and shape scalable geospatial systems for the Maps platform. | Bachelor's degree with 8+ years development and 2+ years leadership experience in distributed systems. As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term. About the role Maps are part of nearly everything Samsara builds. Vehicles, routes, sites, assets, and safety workflows all depend on knowing where things are and how the physical world fits together. The Maps team is building the shared geospatial platform that makes that possible. We source, ingest, enrich, and serve the map data that Samsara's product teams use every day: from road networks and points of interest to addresses, boundaries, and customer-specific map context. Our customers are the engineers building products for millions of workers and the businesses that depend on them. When our data and APIs are accurate, reliable, and easy to use, every team building location-aware experiences at Samsara moves faster. We're hiring a Staff Software Engineer to help set the technical direction for this platform. You'll work across the geospatial stack: building data ingestion and processing pipelines, modeling and serving map data, improving map matching and routing foundations, and creating APIs that make spatial capabilities reusable across Samsara. It's a small team with broad ownership, and the systems you build will become foundational infrastructure for teams across the company. This role is remote and open to candidates based in the US. You might be a good fit if: You enjoy working with internal and external customers to iterate and build software platforms You care about what Samsara does. The software we build helps keep grocery shelves stocked, lights on, and workers safe on the job. You work with urgency and think through the best solutions for the opportunities, requirements, and scale in front of you. You work well with others. We move faster when we move together. In this role, you'll: Shape the technical direction of the Maps teams Build geospatial systems and integrations that support foundational features across most Samsara products. Scale our offerings to continue to support storage, query and computational load of the real-time features dependent on them Consolidate existing team-specific geospatial solutions into scalable platform-wide offerings. Build agentic solutions that allow our customers to self-serve the data they want to see how they want to see it. Raise the technical bar through code reviews, design discussions, and mentorship Partner with engineering leadership on the bets worth making, and be honest about tradeoffs Represent Samsara externally when it makes sense — talks, open source, community engagement with the mapping/geospatial ecosystem Live out our cultural principles: Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, and Win as a Team Minimum requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience 8+ years building software, with at least 2 years in an architect or technical leadership role Strong programming and design fundamentals 4+ years working on large-scale distributed systems 4+ years leading technical projects across multiple teams Nice to have: Experience with GIS technologies and spatial analysis, including PostGIS, spatial SQL, GeoPandas/Shapely, QGIS, and geospatial data validation Familiarity with geospatial data formats and open mapping ecosystems, including GeoParquet, OpenStreetMap (OSM), and OSM PBF; experience ingesting, transforming, validating, or serving these datasets Comfort working in ambiguity and getting teams aligned without needing formal authority The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below. Design and ship full-stack features while driving technical strategy and partnering with cross-functional teams to build AI-driven systems. | Bachelor's degree and 8+ years experience in software design with proficiency in Go, Python, or TypeScript and leadership in cross-team projects. Recovering entrepreneur? Frustrated with bureaucracy? Want to write the roadmap, not inherit one? We're hiring across multiple levels and verticals. The nice thing about growing 30%+ at ~$2B ARR is that we need great engineers everywhere, and we have the room to shape the role around the right person. You build like a founder. We give you the platform to do it at scale. About the role: Samsara (NYSE: IOT) sits at the center of hardware, software, AI, and the physical world. The platform processes 25+ trillion data points annually from IoT sensors, cameras, and connected devices across thousands of organizations, and that dataset is compounding: it grew from 4 trillion to 25+ trillion in four years. We're still early in turning that data into the products that will define how physical operations run, and we're hiring the engineers who will build what comes next. We're approaching ~$2B ARR growing 30%+ year over year, with 96% of our largest customers on two or more products. The fastest-growing divisions at Samsara are tackling the hardest, most ambiguous problems at the company: building new products from scratch, applying AI and ML to massive real-world datasets, and shipping capabilities that change how organizations maintain equipment, manage fleets, and run day-to-day operations. Most of this work is zero-to-one, at billion-dollar scale. We're looking for software engineers who want to define what ships next. Leveling is broad and flexible: we're hiring from Senior through Staff+, across platform and product, and we're open to shaping scope around the right person's strengths and interests. That window won't stay open long. This role is remote and open to candidates residing in the US. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this role. You should apply if: You want to impact the industries that run our world. The software you build will have real-world stakes: helping keep the lights on, getting food into grocery stores, keeping workers safe. What ships here isn't metrics on a dashboard. It shows up on the loading dock, the job site, and the dispatch floor. You want to build, not maintain. Samsara is in full growth mode. We're building new systems from scratch, not babysitting old ones. You'd own entire problem spaces end to end, with the autonomy to set direction from day one. You want to work where AI meets the physical world. Samsara has spent a decade building the largest proprietary dataset for physical operations. More connected assets generate more data, more data trains better models, better models drive more value, and more value wins more assets. The market and the opportunity here are what set us apart, not just the models. You believe customers are more than a number. Samsara engineers have a rare closeness to end users. You'll participate in customer interviews, collaborate with product managers and customer success, and use that context to build products that solve real problems operators face every day. You have the curiosity and drive to figure it out. We're looking for people who take pride in their work and get things done at all costs. The engineers who thrive here don't wait to be told what to build. They define it, ship it, and own the outcome. The rate-limiting step on our teams isn't tooling or process. It's ambition. In this role, you will: Take ownership of technically complex, mission-critical areas and run with them. We want to point you in a direction and show up to the demo meeting impressed, not spend our weeks managing the details. Define and drive technical strategy for new products and platform capabilities, from backend services and APIs to the customer-facing UI. Design and ship full-stack features end to end. You'll work across backend, frontend, and potentially mobile to deliver AI-powered products that solve real operational problems. Partner with product, design, and customer-facing teams to translate ambiguous, real-world problems into clear technical plans and measurable outcomes. Build and scale the systems behind AI-driven products, including data ingestion, APIs, and the workflows that put intelligence into the hands of operators. Raise the bar for the engineers around you through code reviews, design reviews, technical mentorship, and by setting a standard for quality, velocity, and craft. Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices. Minimum requirements for the role: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. 8+ years of experience in software design and development, including building and operating production systems at scale. Strong full-stack fundamentals. You're comfortable working across backend services, APIs, and frontend (web or mobile) to ship complete products. Proficiency in modern languages and frameworks (Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, or similar). Demonstrated experience leading cross-team or cross-org projects from inception through rollout, including managing ambiguity, driving alignment, and delivering measurable impact. Experience building AI-powered or data-driven products. You don't need to train models, but you know how to take AI capabilities and turn them into products customers love. Strong communication skills and the ability to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders. A track record of building: zero-to-one products, systems you left in a meaningfully better place, or hard problems you refused to let stay unsolved. An ideal candidate also has: Experience shipping AI-powered features in production, whether that's LLM-based products, agentic workflows, recommendation systems, or other customer-facing AI. Comfort with modern AI-augmented development workflows (Cursor, LLMs, etc.) to multiply your output and accelerate delivery. Background working with real-world operational data (telematics, sensor data, work orders, inspections) or a strong interest in learning the domain. A proven track record of mentoring senior engineers and influencing engineering culture, standards, and best practices beyond a single team. Side projects, open-source contributions, or other signals of curiosity and drive outside the scope of your day job. The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below. Please note that base pay offered may vary depending on factors including your city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Architect and maintain marketing databases, datasets, pipelines, and Samsara's Customer Data Platform (CDP) to enable advanced segmentation, targeting, automation, and analytics. Partner with the BI team to expand conversational analytics across the marketing organization. Identify and automate manual workflows with AI, taking ideas from concept to prototype to a credible path to production, and delivering efficiency gains across marketing and go-to-market teams. Stand up new data pipelines end to end, often for a tool that was onboarded yesterday: discovering the schema, working with partners inside Samsara and at the vendor, getting the data processed, and integrating it into our downstream systems. Own the reliability and data quality of what you build. Autonomously partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders (Marketing, Sales, R&D, and more) to translate ambiguous business questions into technical requirements and scalable solutions, without dedicated PM support. Ship high-quality Python and SQL, increasingly by directing agentic coding tools, while holding a high bar for reviewing and verifying AI-generated work before it reaches production. Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and help define best practices for the team. Minimum requirements for the role: 5+ years of working experience in a data engineering or AI engineering role, including meaningful hands-on data engineering experience. Expert Python and SQL knowledge with strong hands-on data modeling experience. You have built and shipped systems that use LLMs or agents in production as part of your job. Agentic coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) are part of your regular workflow. You actively seek out new ways to use AI to accelerate your work, and you verify and take ownership of AI-generated output. Deep experience with data warehouse architectures, ETL/ELT, and the modern data stack (e.g., Databricks, DBT, Snowflake, BigQuery, or similar). Demonstrated ability to lead requirements gathering independently, bridging the gap between business needs and technical implementation, and to spot opportunities for automation through exploratory conversations with stakeholders. A self-starter who performs well independently and as a team member, with strong communication and project management skills across technical and non-technical audiences. An ideal candidate also has: A software engineering background beyond data or AI engineering, and a track record of taking ambiguous, unfamiliar problems and turning them into well-architected, delivered solutions. Experience directly supporting a business function such as marketing, sales, finance, or business operations. Experience working with Databricks. Familiarity with go-to-market data and systems: CRM (e.g., Salesforce), marketing automation, web analytics, and CDPs (e.g., Hightouch, Segment). Experience evaluating and monitoring LLM systems in production. The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below. Design and build AI-powered backend systems and mentor engineers. | 8+ years experience with Golang or Python and building distributed backend systems for edge clients. About the role The In-Vehicle Experience team at Samsara built its foundation at the edge: six firmware engineers shipping the software that runs on dash cams in hundreds of thousands of vehicles. Now the roadmap is expanding into AI-powered voice agents, real-time audio orchestration, and driver feedback systems, and the team is standing up its software engineering function for the first time. You'd be the first dedicated SWE and the team's technical anchor from day one. The problem space is unusual: a truck cab where a driver's attention is limited, multiple AI-driven systems are competing to speak, and every decision has to be right the first time. Today, these products don't exist yet. You'll define what to build, design the systems behind it, and ship it. The starting point is always the driver's experience. You'll work primarily in backend systems that orchestrate agentic, voice, and real-time experiences running at the edge. The team's firmware engineers own the device side. You'll need to understand edge constraints well enough to design APIs and service contracts they can consume, but this is a backend and AI role. AI-assisted engineering is central to how you'll work. You'll use tools like Codex, Claude Code, and Cursor throughout the development lifecycle: investigation, design, code generation, testing, review, and operations. This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US. In this role, you will: Define what to build and how to build it, shaping product direction from the engineering side Own the technical direction for orchestrating concurrent, real-time interactions to deliver one coherent experience for the driver Build and ship new AI-powered products from zero to one in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment Design systems that coordinate across backend and edge boundaries, where reliability and real-time responsiveness both matter Make architectural tradeoffs where requirements are still evolving, favoring foundations that generalize over narrowly-scoped solutions Establish patterns for reliability, observability, and explainability in systems that make real-time decisions Serve as the team's technical anchor: review designs, unblock decisions, and mentor firmware engineers as they grow into full-stack contributors Bring in outside ideas and practices for full-stack and AI-assisted development Champion the Samsara cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally Minimum requirements for the role: 8+ years of software engineering experience, including ownership of products from concept through production Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience Strong programming fundamentals (Golang, Python, or similar) Experience building products on top of LLMs or AI agent platforms Experience designing reliable, distributed backend systems that support multi-step, asynchronous workflows Experience designing backend systems that serve edge, embedded, or resource-constrained clients Experience with quality and safety considerations for AI-driven systems: validating outputs, structured responses, retries/fallbacks, and monitoring Experience mentoring engineers as they expand into unfamiliar technical domains Strong communication skills and ability to influence technical direction without formal authority Located in and authorized to work in the United States or Canada (fully remote) An ideal candidate also has: Experience building zero-to-one products in fast-moving, high-autonomy environments Experience building scheduling or arbitration systems Experience designing systems that combine structured and open-ended signal collection to inform product decisions Familiarity with agent orchestration frameworks or patterns The range of annual base salary for full-time employees for this position is below. Please note that base pay offered may vary depending on factors including your city of residence, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This role is also eligible for an initial RSU grant with no vesting cliff, and ongoing refresh opportunities tied to performance, subject to plan terms and conditions.
