SAIF is seeking an Artificial Intelligence Strategy Director to lead our organization into the next era of innovation, efficiency, and customer-focused solutions. This strategic role offers the opportunity to solve real business problems and work more efficiently to transform how we serve our policyholders, injured workers, the Oregon workers’ compensation industry, and support our employees. In this role, you will: Create and lead SAIF’s AI strategy, making sure it supports our long-term goals. Collaborate with leaders across divisions to find opportunities where AI can make the biggest impact. Oversee the development of AI solutions, from ideation to implementation. Educate, inform, and engage employees to build understanding and excitement around AI. Ensure AI is used responsibly, with attention to ethics, risk, and governance. We’re looking for someone with 10 or more years of experience in insurance, business, and/or innovation, with five or more years in leadership roles that regularly communicate and engage with senior leadership. Experience with strategy development/execution and demonstrated interest in applying AI technologies to business use cases are preferred. Responsibilities: Define and execute enterprise AI strategy aligned with business strategy and goals. Drive and maintain a comprehensive, prioritized roadmap of AI initiatives, including assessing current-state capabilities and identifying future-state needs. In close partnership with organizational leaders, IT, portfolio governance bodies and corporate operations, initiate and oversee the delivery of AI-enabled solutions from identification and proofs of concept through prioritization, development, testing, implementation, monitoring, and benefits realization. Lead multi-disciplinary AI teams and oversee AI program management. Build collaborative relationships to influence others and foster a culture of innovation and openness to exploring practical business applications of AI technology. Partner with and inform executives and business leaders to understand their needs, challenges, and opportunities to leverage AI to boost efficiency, empower decision-making, and enhance knowledge sharing. Communicate complex AI concepts to executives and non-technical stakeholders. Advise leadership on AI trends, risks, and opportunities to inform business strategy and drive value. Align the AI strategy and portfolio of AI initiatives with other enterprise strategies and portfolios, ensuring clear priorities and facilitating synchronization between portfolios. Champion the benefits and possibilities of AI across the enterprise. Act as a business subject matter expert and model the value of ongoing learning to provide guidance and recommendations to leverage AI capabilities that deliver business value. Organize and facilitate the AI Community of Practice to engage and educate employees about AI technologies and discover new use cases. Build and nurture relationships with AI communities, academic institutions, and industry partners. Establish and apply communication and change management best practices to inform and continuously engage stakeholders and partners on the progress and integration of new or evolving AI capabilities. Collaborate with Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), internal audit, and other stakeholders to ensure proactive risk management, data governance, and ethical oversight are in place as SAIF responsibly and ethically advances its use of AI technology. Produce engaging content that demystifies AI for a broad audience. Periodically review, update, and promote SAIF’s strategy for implementing AI, adjusting the execution roadmap as needed to remain aligned with strategic objectives. Proactively monitor and evaluate market-leading AI models, tools, and applications – as well as emerging trends, risks, and opportunities in AI technologies and applications - particularly those relevant to the insurance industry, to inform strategic planning and innovation. Provide input into recurring reviews and approvals of SAIF’s policy on the use of AI. Set clear direction and objectives aligned with SAIF’s vision and mission. Drive employee engagement and team effectiveness through effective communication and by creating and maintaining an environment where individuals are empowered and motivated and where the importance of collaboration within and across divisions/teams is fully understood and encouraged. Recognize individual differences while focusing on team cohesion. Develop and sustain an inclusive collaborative team environment to support diverse team members throughout the division. Build a team culture in which differences are embraced. Regularly expose team members to diverse perspectives and leverage differences to strengthen workgroup performance. Model adaptability and consistently seek to understand other world views, perspectives, and approaches to work. Demonstrate curiosity, diplomacy, and empathy when working across groups. RECOMMENDED QUALIFICATIONS: Ten or more years insurance business, and/or innovation experience, with five or more years of supervisory or significant leadership experience. Experience with strategy development/execution and demonstrated interest in applying AI technologies to business use cases are preferred. A bachelor’s degree in business administration, information technology, or a related field. Other combinations of skills and experience may be considered. We are seeking a people-first chief product officer with deep operational expertise to lead that evolution. As our new chief product officer, you’ll join the ranks of SAIF’s executive leaders and oversee three software teams—customer solutions, enterprise solutions, and insurance solutions.
