Design and operate low-latency backend systems for user behavior including decision engines and intervention frameworks. | 5+ years building and operating production backend systems with strong Go or similar language proficiency and experience in distributed systems and data modeling. | Every day, tens of millions of people come to Roblox to explore, create, play, learn, and connect with friends in 3D immersive digital experiences– all created by our global community of developers and creators. At Roblox, we’re building the tools and platform that empower our community to bring any experience that they can imagine to life. Our vision is to reimagine the way people come together, from anywhere in the world, and on any device. We’re on a mission to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and looking for amazing talent to help us get there. A career at Roblox means you’ll be working to shape the future of human interaction, solving unique technical challenges at scale, and helping to create safer, more civil shared experiences for everyone. Why User Behavior? You will build the backend systems that fundamentally shift how Roblox responds to unsafe behavior - from reactive, stateless punishment to a personalized, adaptive system that reflects who a user actually is. You will own core backend infrastructure for a new capability at Roblox: a low-latency behavioral data layer, a centralized rules-and-inference engine, and a unified intervention-delivery framework that together let us treat users based on their real risk profile instead of a single point total. This is a rare opportunity to build foundational, high-scale systems that directly shape how Roblox understands and responds to risk across hundreds of millions of users. You will feel a deep sense of responsibility building systems that directly affect millions of users, especially minors, on one of the world's largest platforms. Your work will reduce harm, improve fairness, and help ensure Roblox remains a place where creativity and community can thrive safely. You will: Build the User Behavior Foundation: Design and operate the low-latency, per-user behavioral data layer that powers real-time safety decisions - aggregating signals like violation history, in-game reports, and behavioral patterns into a single queryable source of truth. Own the Consequence Engine: Build and evolve the centralized decision engine that combines deterministic rules with ML risk signals into a single, consistent safety decision the authoritative system every consequence flows through. Own the Feature Restriction Platform: Build a unified, backend-driven framework for delivering safety interventions that any product team can plug into, replacing today's fragmented, feature-specific implementations. Unify Abuse Reporting: Build the backend that consolidates reporting channels into a single, scalable framework - integrating LLM-based classification, agentic review workflows, and ML models to improve report routing, prioritization, and reporter feedback while meeting global regulatory requirements. Design for trust and auditability: Build serving infrastructure that meets a high bar for explainability and fairness, since these systems directly determine consequences for millions of users. Ship code, not just designs: Own end-to-end delivery - from system design through migration, testing, and production operation. You have: 5+ years of experience building and operating production backend systems at scale, ideally in Go or a comparable statically-typed backend language. Strong experience designing distributed systems: service APIs (RPC/gRPC), data modeling for high-throughput event ingestion, caching, and low-latency read paths. Experience building and evolving rules engines, workflow/decision systems, or similarly stateful business-logic services. Experience with streaming or batch data pipelines feeding a feature store or similar ingestion layer, and comfort partnering with ML engineers who consume that data. Solid production operations fundamentals: monitoring, alerting, oncall, capacity planning, and incident response for systems with real user-facing impact. Nice to have: experience in Trust & Safety, fraud, risk, or other adversarial domains; experience with feature stores or ML-serving infrastructure; experience building frontend-agnostic, backend-driven UI frameworks (e.g. server-driven intervention/notification rendering). You are: A Systems Thinker: capable of designing infrastructure that other teams (ML, feature teams, policy) build on top of, not just point solutions. A Pragmatic Builder: scrappy and impact-oriented, comfortable turning scattered, undocumented signals and legacy code paths into clean, well-owned services. Comfortable with Ambiguity: this space is actively being redefined — you'll help set the standard, not just implement one handed to you. A Reliability-Minded Engineer: you treat testing, migrations, and oncall as first-class parts of the job, not afterthoughts. Committed to Ethical, Responsible Engineering: dedicated to building systems that are fair, auditable, and operate with the utmost responsibility toward user safety. Design and build distributed services and schedulers to orchestrate large-scale tests and manage platform health and reliability. | Strong experience in distributed systems, backend services or orchestration, proficiency in Go or Python, and understanding of system reliability and fault detection. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Orchestration pod within Engine Productivity, you'll design and run the platform that executes large-scale end-to-end and integration tests, running the real, shipping client on real hardware, across Roblox's data centers, cloud, and our own device labs, so our engineering teams can ship the engine, clients, Studio, and more with speed and confidence. Every Roblox engine, client, and Studio change, along with the experiences built on top of them, should ship with confidence, and the Orchestration team is the layer that makes that possible. We build large-scale distributed services that turn thousands of test suites into a reliable, push-button pipeline: fanning work out across fleets of machines and real devices, moving artifacts to where they're needed, managing single- and multi-client test state, and giving test owners and maintainers a system to validate their own runs. It looks a lot like building a specialized cloud platform, with capacity-aware scheduling, isolation and sandboxing, and smart retry and backoff, plus the classic distributed systems problems (fairness, efficiency, failure handling, and reliability) at Roblox scale. You Will: Design and build the distributed services at the heart of our test platform: schedulers, control-plane components, and APIs that fan end-to-end and integration test work across fleets of machines and real devices. Run the real, retail-configuration client on physical hardware at scale, coordinating single- and multi-client test state, join flows, and gameplay scenarios. Build capacity-aware scheduling, isolation/sandboxing, and smart retry and backoff to run tests reliably and efficiently. Build systems that track the health of our hardware and cloud fleet and automatically detect and recover from failures with minimal human intervention. Develop the pieces that move artifacts, manage client state, and let test owners validate their own runs, including the launcher that drives the game client. Help evolve our legacy automation harnesses and point solutions into a cohesive Universal Test Platform, defining the core APIs other Client teams build on. Take projects from design through production, and support the many engineering teams (engine, clients, Studio, and beyond) that grow to depend on the platform. You Have: Strong experience building distributed systems or backend services such as schedulers, control planes, orchestration, or similar large-scale infrastructure. Proficiency in Go and/or Python (we work mostly in Go and Python, with some Luau for test and integration tooling). A solid grasp of distributed systems fundamentals: fairness, efficiency, failure handling, and reliability. Experience building systems that stay healthy on their own: health monitoring, fault detection, and automated recovery. Familiarity with running workloads on physical test hardware (phones, computers, consoles) is a strong plus; comfort getting hands-on with real devices. Experience with end-to-end or integration testing of real applications, not just unit tests or standard CI pipelines, is a plus. A passion for correctness and doing things "the right way." For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Technically versatile: Proficient in at least one server-side language (C#, Java, Go, C++) and comfortable navigating large, complex codebases. A clear communicator: You write sharp technical specs, reason carefully about trade-offs, and make decisions that hold up over time. An end-to-end owner: You drive projects from requirements through production, including cross-functional coordination. You don't hand off and walk away. Product-opinionated: You proactively shape the roadmap and push for the right outcomes. You don't just execute plans. Kind and generous: You treat colleagues with respect, assume good intent, and go out of your way to help others succeed. An AI advocate: You actively push the boundaries of AI-assisted development for yourself and your team. Continuously growing: You take pride in your craft and hold yourself to a high standard. Design and build web UI and data pipelines to protect platform from bot threats. | Requires 4+ years development experience with front-end and full-stack proficiency and a relevant degree or equivalent. WHY SAFETY? At Roblox, we strive to connect a billion people with optimism and civility, and the Safety organization’s mission is to become the leader in civil immersive online communities. We systematically detect, remove, and prevent problematic accounts, content and behavior, and we make Roblox accounts secure and free from compromise. We cover a broad area of the tech spectrum, including machine learning, classifiers for 3D models, experimentation, automation, detection workflows, and AI-powered text filters. Aligned and partnering with product teams, we use this toolbelt to discover new opportunities, influence and shape the product roadmap and prioritization, build safety products, and measure the impact on our community of users and developers. In doing so, we keep Roblox safe, civil, and inclusive, and we foster positive relationships between people around the world. WHY BOT DEFENSE? Roblox is a prime target for automated scripts that join experiences to post "Free Robux" scams, exploit game economies, or manipulate server popularity. Join our Bots and Spam team, where you will tackle the critical challenge of safeguarding the platform against sophisticated bot threats. While our current team of 9 expert Backend and ML engineers has successfully rewritten our core detection pipelines and reduced detection latency to under 10 minutes, we have reached a critical inflection point. To move from reactive firefighting to a hardened, self-serve platform, we need the missing piece of our puzzle: you. We are seeking a founding Full-Stack Engineer to define and own the frontend and platform interface for the Bot Defense team at Roblox. As a full-stack engineer on our team, you will bridge the gap between complex detection models and real-time mitigation, working across the entire stack—from developing high-throughput data processing pipelines and real-time request-level defenses to building intuitive tooling for reviewing and monitoring bot activity. You will have a direct impact on platform health, ensuring fairness for creators and players by staying ahead of evolving threats in a high-stakes, data-driven environment This isn't just a traditional coding role; it is a platform-building role. If you want to solve complex, high-stakes problems with a team that has already proven its ability to deliver major technical milestones, we want to talk to you. You will: Be the architect of our platform interface: You won’t be maintaining legacy code; you will be building our GCS (Generic Challenge Configuration) Web UI from scratch. This tool is the gateway for downstream feature teams across Roblox to self-onboard and tune rules independently. You are essentially building the "control center" for bot defense. High-impact engineering at scale: You will own the Device ID integration—a critical signal layer that acts as the un-spoofable cornerstone for our reputation graphs. Your work will directly dictate how we catch sophisticated bots across signup, login, and game-join events. The "Founding" Experience: You will have total autonomy to shape our frontend practices. As the first dedicated full-stack hire on a team of 9 infrastructure and ML experts, you will have unique influence over the team's roadmap, tooling, and technical direction. Visible Results: Your work directly protects the platform’s health. By building custom analytics views and alert groupers, you will be the reason we can identify false positives in real-time and spare legitimate users from unnecessary friction.1 Bridge the gap: Translate complex backend detection intelligence into intuitive, high-value interfaces. Build the ecosystem: Transform us from a "service team" into a "Bot Defense-as-a-Service" platform. Solve the toughest problems: Help us solve the "Identity Gap"—the most urgent challenge facing our signup protection today. You Have: 4+ years of experience in software development. Experience as a full-stack engineer, proficient in back-end development, working on complex, production-grade systems end-to-end. 2+ years of experience in front-end development Equivalent experience or a BS in Computer Science, Applied Math, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, or another technical field. Versatile: You're a jack of all trades and you are comfortable with several languages and technologies already; you are adaptable in any situation. You are resourceful, and take a creative and strategic approach to solving hard problems. Team Oriented: You lift up your peers and find ways to make the team stronger. User Oriented: You always start with the needs of the user, whether they are Roblox users or internal engineers before architecting a solution. For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below.
