In this role, you would serve as a trusted advisor to practice leaders and partners, playing a strategic role supporting the growth of the firm's Government Contracts and global Antitrust/Competition practices. You would work closely with lawyers to develop and execute targeted business growth initiatives that drive revenue growth, deepen client relationships, and reinforce the firm's market position. You would serve as the primary liaison between the practices and the Marketing Department, coordinating with colleagues to provide high-impact deliverables and support firmwide priorities. This role may also support related industry or sector initiatives. You would be part of a collaborative team and is well-positioned to contribute to innovation within the Marketing Department. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Partners with practice chairs and working group leaders to advance business development strategies for the Antitrust/Competition and Government Contracts practice areas, including support in identifying trends and opportunities, expanding existing client matters, and identifying and pursuing cross-selling opportunities. • Serves as trusted advisor to the lawyers to advance their business development efforts, including developing business plans and coaching on best practices. • Manages strategic initiatives leveraging market intelligence, client insights, and cross-practice collaboration to position the firm as a market leader. • Develops high-impact pitches and RFP responses by aligning client objectives, competitive positioning, and differentiated firm value propositions. • Coaches partners and senior lawyers for key client meetings and pitches. • Supports the business development integration of lateral partners, including targeted client planning, internal connections, and coordinated marketing and BD support. • Develops and manages practice budget, and evaluates and tracks ROI on BD initiatives. • Uses data and reporting tools, including CRM, to track activities, support client targeting, and inform strategic decision-making. • Manages other firmwide business development and marketing activities for the practices, including: • Develops print and digital collateral and content (website), collaborating with Marketing Communications team on messaging, design, and visual storytelling. • Coordinates timely webinars and client events with the Events Team • Leads the strategy and execution for directories and awards such as Chambers and other practice-recognition submissions. • Identifies matters or issues that are potentially media-worthy for the Media Relations team to implement PR, awards and other media placements for the practice groups. • Identifies and supports profile-raising opportunities for practice areas, including sponsorships, in-house presentations, conferences and professional speaking opportunities. • Supervises and mentors assigned BD team members, providing guidance on pitches and proposals, experience descriptions, attorney bios, directory submissions, and event logistics. • Provides coverage and support to the team as needed, including during manager absences. QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree a plus. • Specific experience with and knowledge of antitrust or government contracts practices is desired. • Minimum of six years of marketing and business development experience, with prior law firm management experience preferred. • Skilled in a range of computer software applications, including databases, MS-Word, MS-Excel, and MS-PowerPoint. • Experience with CRM, Foundation, and other Marketing and financial databases preferred. • Strong knowledge of law firms, professional services, or in-house legal organizations. • Strong writing skills required. • Exceptional client service, both internal and external. • Strong project management skills, including independent judgment and decision-making. • Ability to build rapport and work comfortably with partners. • Ability to make sound decisions and demonstrate a high degree of trustworthiness in handling confidential and sensitive information. • Ability to strategically maintain financial/budgetary information. • Effective leadership experience. • Prior supervisory experience. • Ability to be a change agent and drive new firm initiatives. • Strong problem-solving skills. • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively. • Possess reliability, dependability and motivation. • Excellent organization and communications skills, both oral and written. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while exhibiting a strong attention to detail. • Ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously. In this role, you could work on a hybrid schedule in Chicago, Denver, Houston, or DC, or you could work fully remotely from one of 23 different states. You MUST be in the US. In this role, you would be responsible for managing the account set up, billing arrangements, and account and inventory management for assigned client portfolios. You would develop strong collaborative relationships with the attorneys throughout the billing cycle. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Establishing, fostering, and maintaining professional and collaborative relationships with attorneys, staff, and clients to ensure compliance with both attorney and client specifications. • Verifying rates with the rate analysts, reviewing, and implementing the outside counsel guidelines, monitoring fee caps, tier discounts and matter budgets; setting-up and monitoring alerts; and communicating with the firm's Billing & Intake Committee regarding discounts, write-downs, and write-offs. • Managing the prebill to the final bill process; ensuring that billing attorneys receive accurate prebills and that they return their prebills in a timely manner; submitting finalized bills/eBills in the appropriate template format, adhering to the attorney and client specifications; and confirming the final bills have been submitted to the client and are posted in the accounting system. • Collaborating with the eBilling Coordinators for new client account set-ups with eBilling requirements; collaborating with the Accounting Systems Administrator to update appropriate fields according to client billing guidelines; submitting invoices electronically, taking accountability for successful submission and troubleshooting issues; and proactively following-up regarding acceptance and timely payment of eBills. • Communicating directly with clients as requested or as established. Concisely communicating arrangements with attorneys and clients on their matters; and providing clients with requested information on any special billing arrangements. Responding to all inquiries relating to same. • Responding to inquiries relating to accruals, audits, and payment reports; recommending solutions based on billing trends relating to realization; and preparing ad hoc reports upon request. • Maintaining updated pre-bill status reports for assigned portfolios. • Monitoring the unapplied cash report and offering resolution when applicable and assisting Accounts Receivable with accurate payment applications. Keeping partners updated on available unapplied and trust funds and applying funds when needed. • Establishing effective back-up support processes (cross-training and knowledge transfer) to ensure seamless support for all portfolio matters. Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or business discipline preferred or equivalent experience. • Prior law firm or professional services experience preferred. • Experience with Financial Management Systems software. • Related experience performing complex accounting analysis utilizing advanced Excel and reporting skills. • High level of business acumen and ability to multi-task. • Ability to assess pertinent information and anticipate needs and outcomes. • Ability to prepare accurate, highly detailed work product and prioritize and manage time effectively. • Talent for delivering exceptional client service through teamwork and an ability to work independently. • Ability to exchange information and to present ideas, report facts and other information clearly and concisely. • Strong initiative to proactively increase value to the position. • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. • Strong problem-solving skills. • Possess reliability, dependability, and motivation. • Excellent organization and communications skills, both oral and written. • Flexibility to work additional hours as needed.
