Lead process and product improvements in steel manufacturing operations to reduce scrap and rework, drive quality and cost initiatives, and coordinate engineering projects. | Requires a 4-year engineering degree, 10+ years in technology-driven manufacturing, expertise in statistical and mathematical problem-solving for process variation, and demonstrated leadership in process improvements. | The Director of Engineering-Steel is a member of the LPC campus leadership team. In this position, the individual will be responsible for accelerating process improvements and technical capabilities in the Steel Large Structurals manufacturing operations through identifying and eliminating process variations and driving process and product improvements to accomplish scrap and rework reduction in all phases of the operation. The objective is to assist the LPC operations in meeting their business and financial goals through the attainment of a higher level of technical excellence. The development and implementation of statistical and analytical controls for internal and external consistency will be a key component resulting in first time process yield improvements and scrap reduction. The Director’s performance will be measured on their ability to contribute to the plant operation’s P & L as well as setting new strategies in place to drive tomorrow’s business. Specific Duties And Responsibilities • Responsible for identifying and attacking process and product performance issues using various data analysis techniques (statistical, mathematical, DOE, 6 Sigma, etc.) to uncover variables in the process and the product that are not maintained in a controlled fashion. • Plans, develops, coordinates, and directs engineering projects or programs inside and outside the company, including, but not limited to, concurrent engineering. • Responsible to develop and drive quality improvement and cost reduction initiatives/pipelines to meet business metrics. • Work with plant personnel to record, implement and control processes for permanent corrective action. • Works closely with customers, sales, planning and manufacturing to provide coordination on new product introduction and to support specific existing products. • Maintain strong plant personnel contact through frequent and focused manufacturing floor visits and interaction with front line employees. • Establish expert reputation with plant and customer leadership concerning process and product variability concerns. Qualifications • A four year engineering degree is required with a background in Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related degree program is preferred. Advanced degree also preferable. • A minimum of ten (10) years experience in a technology driven, manufacturing and design industry such as aerospace, telecommunications, electronics, gas turbines or automotive. • Proven success in process improvements using mathematical and statistical problem-solving techniques to identify process variations in manufacturing with many independent variables. • The successful candidate’s career will show increasing levels of responsibility and customer focus. • Assertive, energetic, self-starting, risk-taker with the ability to break through historical barriers and paradigms for out-of-the-box, data driven problem solving techniques. • Tremendous desire to be an independent change leader by establishing proven results.
Manage maintenance team and program to ensure equipment uptime, safety compliance, and production support through scheduling, training, and budgeting. | 5+ years manufacturing leadership, 2+ years maintenance leadership, strong mechanical/electrical knowledge, and excellent communication skills. | Maintenance Supervisor: Off-Shift Position Summary Maintenance Supervisor will manage the implementation of the plant’s existing maintenance program. This includes responsibility for identifying parts and critical spares for the plant and maintaining all equipment in a safe working condition. The maintenance supervisor will manage all the technicians including scheduling, assigning daily task/work orders, training, on-boarding, hiring, and performance evaluations. Finally, the supervisor will need to collaboration with the department managers to ensure equipment is running and PMs are current to meet production requirements. Essential Functions • Schedule employees to effectively meet production needs and ensure vacation is consistent with plant policies. • Provide the shift-to-shift communication link to keep all team members working toward the same goals. • Provide effective supervision and coaching to employees to achieve the required equipment uptime and PM goals. • Monitor company programs to ensure that all employees comply with safety regulations and procedures. • Ensure that the high standard of 6s and housekeeping is maintained in the department at all times. • Maintain thorough knowledge of all production processes and materials. • Work with employees to resolve technical and personnel problems. • Troubleshoot and provide cost effective resolutions to production problems. • Maintain a minimum inventory of critical spare parts for all plant equipment. • Cost responsibilities pertaining to repairs and other maintenance budgeting issues. Operate within the budget. • Responsible for performance reviews, discipline, and coaching/counseling of direct records. • Manage handle hazardous waste in accordance with company policy. • Other duties as assigned.
