This is a unique opportunity to oversee a high‑volume, advanced clinical laboratory supporting world‑class clinicians, researchers, and patient care teams. About the Role The Technical Supervisor oversees daily technical and administrative operations within the Flow Cytometry section, ensuring excellence in testing quality, regulatory compliance, workflow management, and staff development. This leader plays a central role in maintaining cutting‑edge laboratory practices and supporting clinical and research initiatives across Penn Medicine. Key Responsibilities: Technical Leadership • Oversee pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical testing workflows. • Maintain and evaluate test menus to align with clinical advancements. • Troubleshoot instrument and assay performance issues. • Lead quality control and quality improvement initiatives. • Serve as a technical expert and resource for clinicians, researchers, and staff. Regulatory Compliance • Ensure readiness for inspections and ongoing compliance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, OSHA, and other regulatory bodies. • Maintain documentation, quality records, policies, and safety standards. Fiscal & Operational Management • Assist with budget planning, inventory oversight, and cost-per-test analysis. • Monitor productivity and adjust staffing or workflow as needed. • Support accurate billing, reagent utilization, and resource optimization. Staff Development & Leadership • Ensure all staff meet regulatory competency standards. • Mentor, coach, and evaluate team members. • Lead training for new employees, students, and residents. • Promote a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous learning. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Biological or Chemical Sciences (required). • Meets CLIA ’88 General Supervisor requirements. • Minimum 2 years of clinical laboratory experience (more if Associate’s degree). • At least 2 years managing high‑volume clinical labs with strong customer service outcomes. • Additional training in laboratory management preferred.
