This role is based in New York or San Francisco and open to those who are able to be in-office 2 days per week on a hybrid work model. About the Team Payments Core Experience aims to create delightful user experiences for all things Payments. Our goal is to create the most reliable, creator-friendly payments tools for creators to run their businesses. We want our platform to be so safe, reliable, and seamless that users look for the Patreon logo on checkout, when purchasing creator media & services around the internet. About the Role As an Engineering Manager of Payments Core Experience, you will be partnering with product, operations, design, and data to craft a vision and roadmap to deliver a high quality payments product for our creators and their fans. You will be overseeing a team of software engineers to realize that vision. • Set a high engineering bar and support a team of software engineers to achieve it • Partner with the Payments Platform team to ensure the right engineering foundations are set for not only the team’s product goals but also for payments needs of the rest of Patreon • Delegate or be hands on when necessary, ensuring key outcomes are achieved while bringing visibility to the team’s work • Partner with Product and Engineering leads to define Payments north stars, success metrics, and roadmap sequencing for H1/H2 • Use research, product data, and support signals to inform priorities and iterate on designs • Ensure the core journeys your teams own feel clear, trustworthy, and modern across web and mobile • Collaborate with other teams so payments experiences feel cohesive across Insights, Creator Success, and other surfaces product areas • Help the broader company understand the “why” behind the Payments roadmap and the creator and fan problems we’re solving • Get out ahead of the near-term roadmap and discover future opportunities through product vision initiatives that you propose and manage About You • 5+ years of software engineering experience and at 3+ years of experience managing an engineering team • Proven track record shipping high‑impact, end‑to‑end product work in complex domains (ideally payments, fintech, or other mission‑critical systems) • Comfortable people managing but stepping in and identifying when more hands on effort is needed to drive the right outcomes • Deep commitment to building high craft user experiences for both creators and fans • Experience working with experimentation driven approaches to optimize product surfaces and use of data to inform roadmap decisions • Skilled at building healthy, trusting relationships across Product, Design, business partners, and other engineering teams. This role is remote with optional in-person attendance in either the New York or San Francisco office. Expect to travel a handful of times per year for team building and collaboration offsites. About the Team The Data Engineering team at Patreon builds pipelines, models, and tooling that power both customer-facing and internal data products. As a Senior Software Engineer on the team, you’ll architect and scale the data foundation that underpins our creator analytics product, discovery and safety ML systems, internal product analytics, executive reporting, experimentation, and company-wide decision-making. We’re a team of pragmatic engineers who care deeply about data quality, reliable systems, and clear definitions. We partner closely with Product, Data Science, Infrastructure, Finance, Marketing, and Sales teams to ensure that the insights driving Patreon’s business and product are trustworthy, explainable, and actionable. About the Role Design, build, and maintain the pipelines that power all data use cases. This includes ingestion of raw data from production databases, object storage, and message queues, and vendors into our Data Lake, and building core datasets and metrics. Develop intuitive, performant, and scalable data models (facts, dimensions, aggregations) that support product features, internal analytics, experimentation, and machine learning workloads. Implement robust batch and streaming pipelines using Spark, Python, and Airflow. Build pipelines adhering to standards for accuracy, completeness, lineage, and dependency management. Build monitoring and observability so teams can trust what they’re using. Work with Product, Data Science, Infrastructure, Finance, Marketing, and Sales to turn ambiguous questions into well-scoped, high-impact data solutions. Pay down technical debt, improve automation, and follow best practices in data modeling, testing, and reliability. Mentor peers earlier in their career within the team. About You 4+ years of experience in software development, with at least 2+ years of experience in building scalable, production-grade data pipelines. Familiarity with SQL and distributed data processing tools like Spark, Flink, Kafka Streams, or similar. Strong programming foundations in Python or similar language, with good software engineering design patterns and principles (testing, CI/CD, monitoring). Familiar with modern data lakes (eg: Delta Lake, Iceberg). Familiar with data warehouses (eg: Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery) and production data stores such as relational (eg: MySQL, PostgreSQL), object (eg: S3), key-value (eg: DynamoDB) and message queues (eg: Kinesis, Kafka) Excellent collaboration and communication skills; comfortable partnering with non-technical stakeholders, writing crisp design docs, giving actionable feedback, and can influence without authority across teams.
