Lead and coordinate renewable energy project development activities including feasibility assessments, regulatory compliance, stakeholder collaboration, and project documentation management. | Bachelor’s degree, 7+ years related experience in utility-scale renewable energy project development, knowledge of regulatory requirements, project management skills, and proficiency with Microsoft and GIS software. | Summary Identifies, evaluates, develops, and negotiates new utility-scale renewables growth opportunities for NYPA. Works across multiple functions within the organization such as, but not limited to system planning, legal, finance, project delivery, external affairs, EH&S, and real estate. The Renewables Project Development Manager (PDM) is responsible for supporting the origination and development of renewable energy projects in different stages of development through commercial operation, in support of NYPA’s strategies and New York State targets. Through these activities, the position will play a key role in achieving NYPA’s underlying mission to advance a clean energy future and the economic growth and competitiveness of New York State. The PDM will be responsible for development activities including identifying new project opportunities, and assessing feasibility of technical, financial, and regulatory aspects, and ensure alignment with NYPA's strategy and vision by collaborating with vendors, and internal & external stakeholder including NYPA’s customers. The position will manage development and evaluation of proposals, coordinate with vendors and consultants in the creation of project documentation such as site control, permitting, interconnection and manage the review of deliverables and timelines. The PDM will also develop and manage tools to track budget for new project and business development initiatives. The PDM should have a strong understanding of the renewable energy project development process and activities, support interconnection and permitting efforts. Experience with the public sector and/or serving public sector/governmental clients is a plus. Strong familiarity with project management and ability to manage multiple concurrent project development efforts simultaneously. Experience with CRM software (Monday.com, Asana, Microsoft Dynamics, Salesforce, etc.) and familiarity with solar PV and energy storage modeling software is also a plus. Candidates with technical or engineering education and/or experience will be preferred. Projects span various technologies and applications including but not limited to renewable energy and energy storage. Responsibilities include stakeholder management both internal and external, multi-functional collaborations such as with technical functions to develop solutions, and others for negotiations with external collaborators. Projects may participate in wholesale energy markets, REC solicitations or customer power purchase agreements, and will include both utility scale and DG opportunities for a variety of technologies including solar PV, wind, standalone storage, or hybrid renewable generation + storage. #LI-JP1 Responsibilities • Lead the coordination for all aspects of work, including application materials, outside consultant deliverables, monitoring task completion and determining the applicability of regulatory requirements and compliance activities. • Lead multi-functional project team meetings to help advance projects, keep notes and track action items, while coordinating with internal and external stakeholders and regulatory agencies • Assist in the management of project materials, including managing data and documents pertinent to stakeholder communication, project schedules, studies/reports and expenditures through the use of internal and/or external platforms. • Interpret and draft regulatory reports including review of engineering drawings. • Assist in preparation of responses to regulatory agencies and public inquiries. • Stay current on regulatory requirements applicable to transmission and generation development projects. • Review and recommend appropriate Best Management Practices associated with typical construction activities. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • Thorough knowledge of the utility industry, project siting and regulatory compliance • Knowledgeable in transmission line and/or generation construction and rights of way management. • Knowledge of regulatory and statutory requirements, including NYS Public Service Law for transmission line and generation construction, stream, wetland, and stormwater regulations. • Strong writing and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences. • Effective problem-solving skills with ability to obtain, research, and analyze data; draw inferences; and make recommendations to provide guidance to the project teams. • Excellent organizational, communication and project management skills with exceptional follow-through and attention to detail. Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple projects within varying competing deadlines. • Highly collaborative and team-oriented, with ability to build relationships with vendors and all stakeholders across all levels and business units. • Proficient in Microsoft applications, GIS and/or other mapping programs. Responsibilities include optimizing energy yield, reliability, and financial performance; supporting project origination and evaluation; and collaborating across engineering, permitting, finance, and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have expertise in solar PV, Wind and storage modeling, knowledge of project development and permitting, proficiency in with tools like MS Excel, PowerPoint, Word, PVSyst, PowerSIMM, and SAM. Analyze operational data to compare actual performance against modeled expectations, leading troubleshooting and performance enhancement efforts.
