THE OPPORTUNITY The Director of Development will lead New Energy Nexus’ global fundraising strategy to secure multi-year, unrestricted, and programmatic support for our expanding network across Asia, Africa, and other emerging clean energy markets. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this role will drive the design and execution of fundraising strategies and business development activities that enable locally-led programs to thrive, supporting clean energy entrepreneurs and the ecosystems that power their success. This is an opportunity for an experienced fundraiser who understands how clean energy innovation, entrepreneurship, finance, and ecosystem building intersect across markets that New Energy Nexus operates in. The Director will steward and expand partnerships with philanthropic foundations, family offices, donor-advised funds, corporates, and high-net-worth individuals who share our vision for equitable energy transitions across the world. The ideal candidate combines the relationship acumen of a global business development leader with the curiosity and adaptability of an entrepreneur. The Director of Development will understand the intersection of clean energy entrepreneurs and ecosystems, building cross-border collaborations and partnerships, and be able to distill market needs into impactful programs. In addition, the ideal candidate has a strong sense of the key stakeholders within the climate philanthropy landscape. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Fundraising & Partnerships (80%) Lead the development and execution of a multi-year fundraising strategy aligned with NEX’s global platform goals. Cultivate and steward six- and seven-figure relationships with philanthropic foundations, family offices, DAFs, corporates, and HNWIs. Translate NEX’s programs and initiatives such as New Energy Skills, Just Batteries, Financial Innovation and Women in Climate into compelling proposals and partnership packages. Manage multi-country proposals with country chapters, coordinating across programs, chapters, finance, and communications teams. Lead donor stewardship and reporting, ensuring NEX exceeds funder expectations. Identify and cultivate opportunities for unrestricted, catalytic programs, and global programs. Accountable for helping reaching platform (core) fundraising goals. Be a thought partner as it relates to funding various initiatives and programs. Responsible for best-in-class functional fundraising support to NEX chapters to enable chapters reaching their fundraising OKRs. Collaborate with the Chief Communications Officer to align on new product and program launches and initiatives. Collaborate with the Global Partnerships Director on relevant joint-programming initiatives. Team Leadership & Capacity Building (20%) Responsible for recruiting, hiring and onboarding new development staff and overseeing their performance and KPIs. Manage and mentor a distributed Development team across U.S. and European time zones. Provide coaching and tools to Chapter Development Directors to strengthen local fundraising capacity. Oversee a Development Coordinator who is responsible for researching donor strategy and intelligence, relationship building with key funder accounts and High Net-Worth Individuals (HNWIs), and organizing fundraisers. QUALIFICATIONS Professional Experience 10 years of successful fundraising results with over USD 20M in direct funding raised in their portfolio 3 years of global programmatic experience Proven history of meeting fundraising goals and cultivating and managing multi-year, six- and seven- figure relationships with foundations, family offices, donor advised funds (DAFs) and HNWIs Proven history of working with Foundations and HNWI in the climate, energy or entrepreneur space Proven history of developing and implementing a fundraising strategy Demonstrated experience in a non-profit organization Personal Attributes High level of adaptability in an environment with evolving team structures and workflows, including a penchant for embracing change as an opportunity for growth and the ability for navigating ambiguity or periods of uncertainty Ability to frequently attend in-person meetings with funders and strategic partners Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, particularly storytelling Strong problem-solving skills combined with excellent budget and project management skills to effectively manage multiple priorities and functions Ability to work independently within a global team Ability to work with a global team and attending in-person meetings and working across time zones and travel, respectively Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to work within ambiguity Work collaboratively in a team environment and receptive to feedback Proficiency in database management (i.e CRM) Proficiency in Google Workspace and Slack Preferred Qualifications Passion for energy startups, with professional knowledge of or experience in the clean energy sector and a track record of contributing to or building clean energy ecosystems involving entrepreneurs, investors, corporates, and public-sector partners. The Storage Program Coordinator will collaborate with the Program Director and The Clean Fight team to design and deliver core programming across current and potentially future initiatives. A Bachelor's degree is preferred, along with a history of supporting strategic planning processes and coordinating large events. | Who We Are The Clean Fight is a not-for-profit accelerator dedicated to rapidly scaling climate solutions in New York State and beyond. Many of the technologies needed to address the climate crisis already exist–our mission is to ensure they are adopted quickly, equitably, and at scale. We design and implement models of adoption that identify actionable strategies for accelerating decarbonization, while supporting startups with tailored resources, customer and capital partner connections, and non-dilutive funding to drive deployments. Our energy storage practice includes multiple programs, including the Energy Storage Deployment Accelerator that is currently in progress, the Energy Storage Capital Challenge completed in 2025, and a new deployment-focused program launching in 2026. These efforts are closely tied to New York’s energy storage innovation ecosystem and feature close partnerships with New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, New Energy New York, New York Battery and Energy Storage Technology Consortium, and others. The Clean Fight also runs concurrent programs within buildings decarbonization, including the Deployment Grant Fund, Empire Technology Prize and Affordable Housing Deployment Accelerator. About the Role The Storage Program Coordinator will collaborate with the Program Director and The Clean Fight team to design and deliver core programming across current and potentially future initiatives. Responsibilities span the full program lifecycle, including startup recruitment and selection, curriculum design, technical assistance provider management, event planning and execution, and related program services. This role will serve as a critical point of contact for cohort companies, ensuring strong day-to-day communication, while proactively identifying commercial, funding, and partnership opportunities across programs. The Coordinator will report to the Program Director and work closely with the Head of Programs and Director of Business Development. The team operates under a flexible hybrid model, with in-person collaboration in the Manhattan office two days per week, though strong remote candidates will also be considered. This is a temporary role starting in October 2025 and will end March 2026. They thrive in an early-stage environment by being a fast learner willing to roll up their sleeves, self-motivated, solution-oriented, resourceful, and able to prioritize and multitask. Key Responsibilities Execute world-class global accelerator program(s), in collaboration with the Program Director, for the energy storage space, focused on adding real and unique value to growth-stage startups Facilitate strategic program planning and design of new initiatives. Responsibilities may include defining the strategic focus of program topics, building high-level program roadmaps, identifying and cultivating recruitment channels, and ensuring events are designed and delivered to maximize company success Conduct needs assessment and market mapping interviews with stakeholders from throughout the energy storage ecosystem Help evaluate the needs of participants in order to scale, and identify and connect them with the necessary resources Assess and monitor best practices in the accelerator world to understand what is and isn’t working and ensure we’re pioneering a best-in-class program design Coordinate an inclusive startup selection process as necessary, including the development and management of the selection committee Manage program execution, including hosting multiple in-person and virtual events Help build a strong expert network to support the program’s startups Elicit and respond to the needs of participants throughout our programs Our Ideal Candidate: Bachelor's Degree + Experience working in accelerators or other organizations designed to help companies scale and/ or within startups directly helping them scale (e.g., sales, business development, product management, product marketing, or other relevant functional experience with a growth stage company; accelerator manager or associate; investor; consultant or investment banker, etc.) A history of leading - or supporting - strategic and/or operational planning processes for programs or other months long initiatives involving internal and external stakeholders Experience supporting others as they build great companies, and building community between companies so they can support each other Ability to coordinate and execute large events, in partnership with event production resource Proven project management in lean, complex, fast-paced environments Experience in the clean energy world is helpful but not required. Work in energy storage, building efficiency and decarbonization is particularly relevant Experience working in non-profit or government roles with a focus on clean energy, climate solutions, or similar also valued Compensation This role is a temporary hire and does not imply or guarantee future employment. It is outcomes-based and may be structured as either full-time or part-time. The Coordinator will be compensated at a flat rate prorated based on a full-time salary of $75,000, adjusted according to experience.
