Lead and coordinate internal and external communications strategies, manage content across multiple channels, oversee media relations, maintain brand standards, and collaborate with teams to advance organizational priorities. | Experience in nonprofit communications, strong project management skills, proficiency with communications and graphic design tools, ability to work collaboratively and autonomously, and familiarity with EBDI topics. | About MCF Staff Staff of the Minnesota Council on Foundations are in a special position to provide service and leadership to Minnesota’s vibrant philanthropic community. MCF staff efforts are aligned to: deliver an excellent member experience; ensure organizational strength; advance equity, belonging, diversity and inclusion (EBDI) within MCF and throughout the field of philanthropy; and encourage equitable, effective and principled philanthropy in support of Minnesota communities. MCF is a learning organization focused on continuous improvement, particularly as it relates to organizational commitments to the Principles for Philanthropy and EBDI. MCF programs and services are designed in response to member needs and community conditions, and when possible, in partnership with nonprofit community organizations and government partners. MCF work is guided by its 2022 Strategic Framework and carried out through the efforts of internal teams, and collaborations with members and partners. Job Description About the Role The Marketing and Communications Manager leads the organization’s internal and external efforts and direction around marketing and communications. The manager ensures a consistent narrative and comprehensive messaging about the full range of MCF’s internal and external activities, programs, resources, services, and organizational priorities; and highlights the work of MCF’s members. The Marketing and Communications Manager works in close collaboration with the MCF management team to ensure that communications strategies are designed to deliver an excellent member experience. This individual will have a growth mindset, with an emphasis on continuous improvement, and an affinity for communications tools and systems. This position reports to the Vice President of Member Services and works in collaboration and coordination with the full MCF staff team. Key Responsibilities Collaborate with member services; public policy; equity, belonging, diversity, and inclusion (EBDI); governance; executive leadership; and other teams throughout the various communications and marketing tasks. • Provide strategic leadership for MCF’s internal and external communications, in collaboration with management team. • Understand MCF’s communications processes and collaborate with the management team to design annual communications plans for all areas of the organization’s work. • Under the direction of the Vice President of Member Services, ensure alignment of all communications in collaboration with the President, Vice President of Policy and Partnerships and Director of Organizational Learning and Leadership Development for Equity and Belonging. • Ensure communications advance organizational priorities. • Maintain MCF’s communications calendar and implement communications strategies, plans, and campaigns for each area of the organization’s work. • Oversee communications about MCF membership and programs to achieve maximum participation. • Write, edit, format, and/or design internal and external communications and distribute content through all-member emails (i.e., Notes and Giving Memo), social media (i.e. LinkedIn), print, and other communications and branding. • Oversee MCF’s micro-websites (WordPress) and support communications on mcf.org (Drupal). • Lead MCF’s media relations including press releases, op-eds, and other earned media opportunities. • Maintain MCF brand standards and promote use throughout the entity. • Develop graphic imagery and visualizations for use across communications channels. • Set communications goals, monitor analytics/metrics, understand market research, and provide reports on websites, email, social media, and other marketing and communications channels. • Deliver timely, high-quality responses to member requests and inquiries and oversee info@mcf.org. • Manage MailChimp subscription and data. • Develop revenue through the sale of digital and print-based advertising and sponsorships. • Manage contracts with outside communications professionals. • Deliver member programs and networks as a part of the Member Services team. • Attain a high level of knowledge of the field of philanthropy to ensure fluency in member interactions. • Engage in continuous learning to advance EBDI within MCF and throughout the field of philanthropy. • Assist MCF teams with other duties as needed, including assistance with programs, publications, research, and database. Preferred Qualifications • Experience working in a nonprofit or philanthropic setting • Demonstrated professional communications skills • Excellent project management skills with a proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and coordinate workflows across teams • Experience handling communications on topics related to equity, belonging, diversity and inclusion in a professional setting • Demonstrated use of communications and graphic design technologies • Prior use of the following technologies will be useful: Salesforce, MailChimp, Canva, Drupal, WordPress • Skilled problem solver and self-starter • Ability to work in a highly collaborative and team environment, as well as work autonomously on specific projects Work Location: In 2026, MCF staff are maintaining a hybrid work environment with a split between in-office and remote work. Approximately 10 – 20% of this position will require in-person work. The MCF office is currently located in Saint Paul. MCF programs take place at the office and other locations in the Twin Cities and periodically in Greater Minnesota. Compensation: Total compensation offered for this full-time position (37.5 hours weekly) includes $70,000 - $80,000 starting salary; five weeks of Paid Time Off (six weeks after 4 years of service); 11 organization-wide holidays; two floating holidays; birthday off; medical, dental and vision insurance; six percent retirement contribution (no employee match required); up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave; wellness benefit; and more. This position is eligible for part-time (80%) if the employee desires, with prorated pay and benefits.
