In this highly visible role, you will serve as the technical lead for software testing and quality, partnering directly with Mattermost’s founders, CEO, and engineering leadership to define and execute the next evolution of our testing strategy and infrastructure. As a Senior SDE in Testing Infrastructure, you will define the technical direction for test infrastructure, frameworks, and processes, enabling every engineer to deliver high-quality, reliable software with speed and confidence. Rather than focusing on implementing automated tests for individual features, your work will influence how the entire organization approaches testing and quality—establishing standards, designing scalable systems, and fostering a culture where quality is owned by all. You will collaborate with engineering leadership to ensure testing systems are deeply integrated, observable, and intelligent, including leveraging AI-driven technologies to accelerate test coverage, analytics, and decision-making. You'll build systems that make automated testing so intuitive and comprehensive that we’ll never manually test anything twice. Responsibilities Include: • Lead a company-wide transformation of test automation and quality engineering strategy, working directly with Mattermost’s founders and engineering leadership. • Define and own the vision and roadmap for Mattermost’s testing and quality engineering infrastructure. • Architect scalable, intelligent testing frameworks that integrate seamlessly into our CI/CD pipelines and distributed engineering workflows. • Establish and enforce testing standards, best practices, and quality metrics that guide engineers across teams. • Influence and mentor engineers to adopt shift-left testing, testability-focused design, and quality-first development practices. • Partner with engineering leadership to align testing strategies with product and platform roadmaps. • Design systems, tooling, and processes that empower developers to easily create, run, and maintain high-quality automated tests. • Lead the integration of AI/LLM technologies into testing strategy—such as intelligent test generation, analysis, and reporting. • Build visibility and trust in quality signals through advanced reporting and observability into product reliability and test effectiveness. • Drive continuous improvement by researching, evaluating, and championing emerging testing methodologies and technologies. • Foster a culture of technical excellence in testing architecture, ensuring quality is a shared responsibility across all engineering team Requirements: • BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field with 7+ years of experience in software testing, quality engineering, or test infrastructure development. • Proven experience defining and executing quality engineering strategy or leading test infrastructure initiatives for complex, full-stack systems. • Strong programming background in TypeScript, React, React Native, Go, and PostgreSQL. • Deep understanding of CI/CD pipelines, distributed systems, and cloud-based test environments. • Experience designing or architecting testing frameworks and developer tools that scale across large engineering organizations. • Strong expertise in end-to-end testing frameworks (e.g., Playwright, Cypress, Detox) and best practices in automation architecture. • Experience with API testing, performance testing, and security testing methodologies. • Knowledge of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and their application to automated testing. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify quality risks and design comprehensive mitigation strategies • Excellent communication, collaboration, and influence skills across cross-functional, global teams. • Experience mentoring engineers and leading quality-focused technical initiatives across multiple teams. Core Responsibilitie • Product Messaging and Positioning: Develop and iterate on product value articulation aligned to defined ICPs and market strategy that connects with enterprise and national security audiences, including champions, economic buyers, implementation partners, and internal audiences. • Market Narrative & Technical Storytelling: Define and deliver the product story within the broader Mattermost narrative, in partnership with Marketing. You'll take complex technical themes such as ABAC, E2E encryption, or identity management, and turn them into compelling, high-stakes narratives for the world's most mission-critical buyers. • Sales & Partner Collateral: Own the creation of high quality demo videos, roadmap announcements, technical data sheets, use case specific-messaging and positioning, presentations, and press release content - in close partnership with Marketing, which owns final external publication - that empower sales and channel partners in effectively selling our product suite. • Market Insights: Conduct market research and gather competitive intelligence to inform product strategy and positioning. • Sales Enablement: Create and deliver sales enablement materials, including playbooks, battle cards, customer case studies, and product presentations, including articulating our pricing, packaging, and true-up models such that sales and channel partners can move at high velocity. • Front-Line Field Engagement: Spend 30% of your time in the field, leading high-impact demos at customer sites and representing Mattermost at key industry events. You must be able to explain not just what a feature is, but why it wins in a competitive landscape, and why should the market care. • Commercial Acumen: Deep understanding of government and enterprise software sales motions, including pricing strategies, packaging, and the mechanics of channel enablement. • Technical Literacy: Fluency with the developer/DevOps ecosystem, security protocols (e.g. ABAC, encryption), and the ability to work alongside engineering to "productize" demo environments in partnership with Marketing. • Execution-First: A proven track record of independently shipping high-quality sales enablement collateral and product announcements. • Security & Certifications: Professional cybersecurity credentials such as CISSP are highly valued and considered an asset for this role. • Security Clearance Eligibility: • This role may require the candidate to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance in the future.
