We seek to help lift people out of poverty and build climate resilience by expanding access to inclusive financial services and empowering excluded populations to make informed, life-improving decisions. About the Internship: This is a voluntary, unpaid opportunity intended to provide educational and professional development experience in nonprofit business development and fundraising. The role is designed to help the intern build skills, gain sector knowledge, and contribute meaningfully to Kshema Foundation’s mission. Please note that there is no expectation of compensation now or in the future and no promise of future employment. Key Learning Objectives The intern will gain experience in: • Identifying and researching potential funders, donors, and grant opportunities both in the U.S. and globally. • Understanding nonprofit funding cycles and proposal development processes. • Creating targeted outreach lists of potential partner organizations. • Supporting content creation for proposals, marketing materials, and partnership decks. • Learning effective nonprofit communications strategies to engage funders and partners. • Understanding nonprofit operations. • Collaborating with a mission-driven, global nonprofit team. Sample Duties & Responsibilities: This is a somewhat entrepreneurial role, in that we are open to engaging the intern(s) in ways that maximize their skills, interests, and creativity. However, it is envisioned that the intern(s) will: • Conduct research to identify prospective institutional donors, foundations, and government funding opportunities. • Develop profiles and summaries of key funding prospects. • Assist in drafting and editing marketing and fundraising content (presentations, one-pagers, website updates). • Support proposal writing/development. • Research and compile lists of strategic partner organizations in relevant sectors. • Track proposal deadlines, submission requirements, and follow-up needs. • Support outreach and partnership cultivation efforts. • Perform other mission-aligned tasks that contribute to business development and fundraising. Qualifications: • Strong research, writing, and organizational skills. • Experience and/or interest in nonprofit management, fundraising, international development, and/or financial inclusion. • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines. • Experience in and/or passion for climate change, agricultural resilience, and advancing rural livelihoods. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace. • Fluency in written and spoken English. • Global candidates are welcomed to apply. Commitment & Logistics: • Flexible schedule; but ideally with a willingness to commit 10 hours a week. • Volunteer work can be conducted remotely from the location of the intern’s choosing. Benefits to the Volunteer Intern: • Mentorship from experienced leaders in donor-funded funded, international development. • Exposure to the global nonprofit funding and partnership ecosystem. • Opportunities to develop professional writing and research skills. • Networking with international partners and stakeholders. • Resume-building experience in nonprofit business development, fundraising, and operations. Conditions: This is an unpaid, voluntary opportunity to provide selected individual(s) with an educational and/or professional development opportunity and thus provides no wages, benefits, unemployment compensation, or workers’ compensation, nor does it provide any future expectation for compensation or employment.
