Design, configure, program, commission, and support federal security systems including site surveys, cost estimating, system integration, training, and project documentation. | 5+ years experience with commercial/industrial electronic security systems, pre-sales engineering, advanced computer drafting skills, ability to travel 25%, and ability to obtain security clearance. | Salary: Pay grade: We are seeking a Security Systems Application Engineer to join our federal team at our (Huntsville, AL / Remote). Our Engineers on this team get the unique opportunity to support some of our top government and military sites all over the United States, as well as some overseas. Our Engineers are engaged in the full lifecycle of a project from pre-sales to closeout. These duties may include cost estimating & sales support, performing pre-design site survey, designing system shop drawing submittals, generating product literature submittals, programming electronic security systems, executing system startup & commissioning, integrating systems, training the customer, and generating project closeout documents such as as-built drawings and manuals. Location: Huntsville, AL (Remote / Virtual (work from home) with the ability to travel as needed) Bonus Eligible: Yes Benefits: Eligible for benefits on first day of employment Travel Required: Around 25% As a Security Systems Applications Engineer, you will: • Perform hardware engineering, software engineering and network level commissioning for Federal Security Projects • Designs, estimates, and configures technically functional security systems, including enterprise security head end systems. Creates drawingpackages (technical data packages), sequence of operations, bill of material, network layouts and electrical requirements • Coordinates and creates of necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation • Assists in the loading and commissioning of all system and network-level controllers as required. Assists in validation of complete system functionality and troubleshoots problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation • Provides field change information to the project team for the creation of as-built drawings and software • Selects controllers, end devices, and other materials to meet project specification, and minimize the total cost of installation to ensure that the project cost comes in below estimate for assigned projects • Ensures maximum reuse of proven designs and programs • Keeps management and JCI contractor or customer informed of job progress and issues • Assists in performing site-specific training for owner / operator on the total building control solution • Participates in customer meetings with project team. Performs value engineering to provide cost effective results while maintaining customer satisfaction • Adheres to safety standards. High degree of regard to employee and subcontractor safety Required Qualifications • Demonstrated proficiency and experience working with commercial and/or industrial Electronic Security Systems (access controls, intrusion detection systems, CCTV/camera systems, etc.), preferably with programming, configurations, and integrations. 5+ years' experience preferred • Proficiency and experience working with pre-sales engineering support (cost estimating, sales support, performing pre-design site surveys, designing control system, shop drawing submittals, generating product literature submittals, design packages and submittals, etc.) • Advanced computer skills, particularly with computer-related drafting tools • Ability to relate technical knowledge to a non-technical audience. • Ability to travel up to 25% • Must be able to obtain and maintain required security clearances for projects being supported (background/character, criminal history, employment, and credit checks). Active Department of Defense Secret (or higher) clearance preferred Preferred Qualifications: • Demonstrated knowledge of a wide variety of Security Alarm building automation systems and other building subsystems. Lead and manage the procure and installation project for electronic/integrated security systems at federal sites, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery and compliance with federal standards. | Senior project management experience in electronic security systems with strong technical background, PMP certification preferred, and eligibility for government security clearances. | We are seeking a Senior Project Manager for our federal team primarily supporting Fort Meade, MD. This role may help support some of our other project sites locally at times also. This role is primarily responsible for managing a procure and installation project to upgrade and retrofit the electronic/integrated security system (access controls, intrusion detection, video management systems, etc) At Johnson Controls, we support our nation’s most critical facilities, the people who occupy them, and the missions they enable. Johnson Controls Federal Systems (JCFS) is a specialized team serving as a trusted partner to the federal government. We help modernize U.S. military installations, Department of Defense and other federal agency facilities to be smarter, more resilient, efficient, sustainable, and secure. Location: Primarily supports Fort Meade, but may help out with some other project sites in the area at times. Benefits: Eligible for benefits on first day of employment Paid Time Off: 3 weeks paid vacation, 5 sick days, 3 floating holidays, and 10 standard holidays (6.5 weeks in total) Travel Required: Limited; mostly local As a Senior Project Manager, you will: • Serve as the primary leader for execution of assigned projects, developing schedules, managing resources, and ensuring delivery on time, within scope, and on budget. • Develop and approve cost estimates for materials, equipment, labor, and subcontractors in support of proposals, bids, and new business opportunities. • Negotiate, prepare, and issue subcontracts, while managing vendor selection, procurement, and quality to meet project and client requirements. • Conduct pre-design site surveys and collaborate with design engineering teams on system design packages, technical submittals, and constructability reviews. • Coordinate the handoff of engineering deliverables to project teams, ensuring alignment with operational requirements and customer expectations. • Partner with field operations to troubleshoot and resolve technical or integration issues during installation and commissioning. • Engage directly with customers through meetings, training, and technical consultation to build confidence and ensure desired outcomes are achieved. • Participate in proposal reviews, customer meetings, and value-engineering efforts to deliver cost-effective, technically sound solutions. • Provide project leadership in risk management, recovery planning, and dispute resolution to minimize escalation and protect project outcomes. • Analyze financial reports and schedules to proactively address challenges, while preparing accurate forecasts of revenue, cost, and gross margin. • Ensure compliance with US Army Corps of Engineers health and safety standards, internal policies, and quality requirements for all project activities. • Lead internal knowledge sharing, promoting best practices, standardization, and development of engineering resources to improve long-term execution. Required Qualifications: • Project management experience in building construction, facilities maintenance, or electronic security systems (ESS). • Strong technical background with proven expertise in commercial and industrial ESS (access control, intrusion detection, CCTV/video surveillance), including system design, configuration, integration, and standards compliance. • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously, ensuring delivery within scope, schedule, and budget. • Experience in project financials, including cost estimating, change order management, and full P&L responsibility. • Skilled in pre-sales engineering support, contract evaluation, scope interpretation, and development of complete design packages. • Proficient in project management and financial accounting software; Microsoft Project experience preferred. • Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences. • Eligible for U.S. government security clearances; active DoD Top Secret (or higher) clearance strongly preferred. • Willingness and ability to travel locally in support of field operations and customer requirements. Preferred Qualifications: • Extensive experience managing large-scale projects (over $1M), including oversight of multiple trades and subcontractors. • Proven expertise with security alarm systems, building automation, and related subsystems; proficient with platforms such as Lenel, Milestone, Genetec, and Software House Ccure 9000. • Prior management experience on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) projects, with deep knowledge of federal standards, specifications, submittal processes, and contract compliance. • Skilled in interpreting government contracts and navigating federal procurement standards. • Experience supporting Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) environments and ensuring adherence to specialized security requirements.
