Job Summary: We are seeking a talented and passionate Freelance Deputy Homepage/Digital Production Editor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing content placement on the website, as well as working closely with editors and reporters to ensure content is optimized, engaging, and accurate. This role is a freelance position with an emphasis on morning coverage. Typical start time will be 5 a.m./6 a.m. EST. Responsibilities: • Manage content placement across the website and regularly update various sections to keep the presentation fresh and relevant. • Use analytics to monitor content performance and guide placement on the website. • Work closely with editors and reporters to quickly adjust content if necessary. • Collaborate with other departments, such as design and development, to ensure that all content is visually appealing, user-friendly, and optimized for different platforms. • Troubleshoot production issues as they arise. • Monitor news wires, social media, and other sources to identify high-impact stories and trends that are relevant to our audience. • Pitch story ideas and work with editors and other members of the editorial team to develop new angles and angles to existing stories. • Ensure that all content is optimized for SEO and social media. Requirements: • Previous experience as a Digital Editor is required. • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, Communications, or a related field. • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a reporter, digital editor, content curator, or related role within a news organization. • Familiarity with WordPress and other tools used to produce and manage content. • Strong news judgment and the ability to identify stories and trends that are relevant to our audience. • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond quickly to various requests. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Familiarity with social media platforms and best practices for content promotion. • Knowledge of AP style and other editorial guidelines. • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in political journalism, editorial management, and project management. Responsibilities: • Assist in managing a team of writers, reporters, and editors, ensuring quality and accuracy in content. • Collaborate with the Managing Editor, Politics to develop and execute content strategies that align with the organization's editorial voice and values, ensuring coverage of relevant political news and analysis. • Monitor political news and developments, keeping up to date with current events and trends • Collaborate with other departments within the organization, including marketing and social media teams, to ensure cohesive and effective content distribution and promotion. • Manage editorial projects from inception to publication, setting timelines, delegating tasks, and ensuring timely delivery of content. • Work with the audience engagement team to analyze audience metrics and develop strategies to grow and engage the audience. • Assist in managing the editorial budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and efficiently.
