Support national security research projects through independent analysis, report writing, and collaboration. | Requires a Ph.D. or equivalent experience in a relevant field, with proven research, publication, and presentation skills, and ability to work independently on complex projects. | Overview Adjunct Research Analysts provide technical, scientific, and analytical expertise in support of IDA’s work requiring independent and objective research, test, study and analyses of national security issues and related national challenges, particularly those requiring extraordinary scientific and technical expertise. This position supports IDA’s role as a trusted and decisive contributor to U.S. security and science and technology debates. Responsibilities Researches, tests, studies, analyzes, hypothesizes, predicts, and/or evaluates issues within a project based on provided parameters, guidelines, and/or specifications of the project Individually or in team, prepares reports documenting conclusions and/or findings; may present findings of the final report to task sponsor and/or select audience(s) May be assigned as project leader to one or more projects to assist in and provide technical direction for project planning, requirements, budgetary objectives, and assignment of responsibility and authority Works with other researchers and sponsors to identify, prioritize, and communicate emerging issues for IDA, its sponsors, and the community Develops and sustains working relationships with sponsors to ensure that opportunities for further support and collaboration are surfaced Qualifications At minimum, BS+10 years of experience or MS+8 years of experience or Ph.D. Demonstrated ability to perform independent research Proven ability to publish findings and present findings orally Able to present ideas, concepts, and theories orally and in writing Demonstrated innovative thinking and problem resolution Able to work in an unstructured environment and/or on more than one project concurrently Able to interact with government or industry representatives Travel may be required Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required About IDA The Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) is a private, nonprofit corporation headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, just outside Washington, DC. Compensation We support transparency, equity, and fairness in our compensation program and provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range based on data-driven market analysis for each position. While it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range, a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $112,924-$263,335. Individual salary within this range will be commensurate with the incumbent’s experience, unique skills and qualifications, and other relevant factors.
Oversee administrative functions, manage staff, and coordinate office operations for the division. | Bachelor's degree in a related field, 6+ years of administrative or managerial experience, strong organizational and communication skills, ability to obtain security clearance. | Summary Statement: In accordance with IDA practice and procedure, this position is responsible for the overall administration of the Division and the day-to-day supervision of the Division support and editorial staff. Responsibilities cover a wide range of activities in support of the Division’s objectives, including acquisition of division office equipment and required services, representing the Division at designated functions or on committees, and providing assistance to Division management as needed. Primary Responsibilities: Directly supervises the full-time administrative support staff; is accountable for maintaining the quality, efficiency and morale of the staff. Maintains a close and highly responsive relationship to the day-to-day activities of the Division Director. Anticipates and prepares materials needed by the Director for such activities as conferences, correspondence, appointments, meetings, and telephone calls. Performs a variety of both complex and routine administrative duties requiring extensive working knowledge of the organization, programs, practices and procedures related to the function of the office. Interfaces and coordinates with other IDA Administrative Managers to accommodate workload fluctuations. Supervises/coordinates new employee hiring and on-boarding processes between IDA HR and Division research staff. Requests security clearances for all new employees and monitors progress to completion. Submits justification for periodic reinvestigations. Has primary administrative responsibility for ensuring compliance with corporate policy concerning areas such as consultants and subcontractor usage; office and computer related requirements, purchasing and related expenditure approvals. Responsible for Division processing of Consultant Agreements and Subcontracts Oversees computer office equipment and space requirements; acts as primary liaison for computer related planning and acquisition; directs Division personnel in determining related needs, expenditures, networking support and other related requirements. Responsible for ensuring compliance with corporate administrative practices, including purchasing, security and personnel; liaisons with other divisions and IDA headquarters in administrative matters. Accountable for Division administrative expenditures to include the approval and reporting of staff travel, consultants and vendor invoices, purchase requisitions and timesheets. Performs other relevant duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of a BS/BA degree in related field such as business administration or other business related discipline. Six or more years of progressively responsible work experience in comparable environment, preferably government contracting, or equivalent combination of relevant experience and college coursework. Proven organizational skills; ability to multi-task and work well under pressure, balancing competing priorities; excellent interpersonal abilities and communication skills. Proven experience with Microsoft Office Products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with all levels of employees. Supervisory/management experience strongly preferred. U.S. Citizenship is required. Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required. Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
