Assist with vehicle repairs, perform preventive maintenance, and support shop operations under supervision. | High school diploma or equivalent, technical training or experience in vehicle maintenance, valid Class B CDL with passenger endorsement preferred, and familiarity with safety and hazardous materials regulations. | Equipment Technician II • Planned Implementation Plan for a 34-hour 4-Day Workweek with Full-Time Benefits • 100% Paid Medical & Dental Plan • Excellent Retirement Benefits through CalPERS Under the supervision of the Director of Maintenance and Shop Supervisor, assists the Equipment Mechanics with major repairs of HTA and contract equipment. Performs minor and some major repairs and Preventative Mechanic services on equipment as assigned. • Responsible for vehicle servicing including oil changes chassis and component lube, in line with scheduled preventive maintenance program. • Makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment. • Assists mechanics with repair of vehicles, as requested. Makes some major repairs as assigned. • Performs maintenance, diagnosis and repairs to A/C systems. • Diagnoses engine and transmission codes. • Assists with road calls and replacement of vehicles for revenue service. • Performs pre-trip inspections on back-up buses on a daily basis. • Diagnoses defects in brake systems and performs necessary repairs. • Advises equipment manager on need for parts and supplies. • Conforms with all regulations governing hazardous materials use and disposal, and follow and comply with HTA’s Spill Pollution Prevention Plan. • Assists with annual inventory. • Cleans shop area when needed, cleans work area daily before end of shift. • Assists in facility maintenance such as gates, bus washing, building repairs, etc. • Performs related duties as assigned. • Must maintain a valid Class B driver license with a passenger endorsement. Preferred Qualifications • High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training in diesel mechanics, automotive technology, or related field. • Completion of an accredited apprenticeship or formal training program in vehicle maintenance and repair. • 3–5 years of experience performing vehicle maintenance and repair, preferably with buses or heavy-duty equipment. • Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement. • Experience performing preventive maintenance (PM) services on commercial vehicles. • Familiarity with HVAC/Air Conditioning systems in commercial vehicles. • Demonstrated experience diagnosing engine and transmission codes using diagnostic tools. • Experience adhering to safety, environmental, and hazardous materials regulations. Desired Qualifications • Experience with road calls, on-site repairs, and vehicle replacement in revenue service. • Knowledge of system diagnostics and repair. • Basic facility maintenance experience, including minor building repairs and shop cleaning. • Experience managing parts inventory and providing recommendations for replacement/ordering. • Ability to collaborate effectively with a team of mechanics and operations personnel. • Prior exposure to workplace safety programs, Spill Pollution Prevention, or environmental compliance initiatives. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge: • Vehicle systems including engine, transmission, brakes, A/C, and chassis components. • Preventive maintenance procedures and schedules for commercial vehicles. • Diagnostic equipment and troubleshooting techniques for mechanical and electrical systems. • Safety, environmental, and hazardous material regulations applicable to vehicle repair and maintenance. • Basic facility maintenance procedures (e.g., building repairs, bus washing, shop upkeep). Skills: • Perform minor and some major repairs on commercial vehicles. • Conduct preventive maintenance tasks including oil changes, lubrication, and inspections. • Diagnose and repair A/C, engine, transmission, and brake systems. • Operate commercial vehicles safely under a Class B CDL. • Use computer-based diagnostics software and web-based platforms for troubleshooting. • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors; complete work orders accurately. • Organize work areas, assist with inventory, and prioritize tasks efficiently. • Ability to read and follow technical documents, maintenance instructions, and safety procedures. • Demonstrates professionalism, teamwork, and a strong commitment to safety. • Promotes a positive and respectful work environment, valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Abilities: • Collaborate with mechanics on complex repair tasks. • Follow instructions, safety protocols, and HTA policies accurately. • Respond promptly to road calls and emergencies. • Work independently or as part of a team to complete assigned duties. • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment. • Lift up to 50 pounds independently and 100 pounds with assistance. Physical Requirements • Must pass a DOT physical and maintain ongoing qualification standards.
