Drive architectural decisions for Hex's compute platform and mentor engineers to implement designs effectively. | 10+ years backend engineering experience focused on computation and performance with strong communication and design roadmap skills. | We are looking for a Staff or Principal-level software engineer to join our Compute team. Hex's Compute team owns one of the hardest performance problems in the product: our users do everything from analyzing 100-line CSV files to querying petabyte-scale Snowflake tables, and in all cases they expect it to feel fast. We power a technical product that our customers trust to accurately retrieve data from their own systems to then efficiently execute polyglot backed analytics workflows. This is a backend-heavy role with a focus on computation, performance, data systems design, and systems architecture. You'll drive architectural decisions that compound over years, write the technical designs that shape how the team builds, and directly influence the long-term trajectory of Hex's compute platform — all while staying deeply hands-on in the codebase. What you will do: Evolve Hex's execution architecture — the graph-based system that compiles, plans, and runs user notebooks — including proposing and building entirely new compute components that support faster, smarter execution Drive parallel execution strategies and caching approaches that reduce latency and minimize unnecessary round trips to external data warehouses Instrument complex systems to surface and diagnose performance problems to give the team and our customers a much clearer picture of where time is being spent Collaborate across engineering and product to support new platform capabilities, such as building an internal query language that compiles to the appropriate dialect for any connected warehouse Author and review technical proposals, and mentor engineers to implement ambitious designs effectively Propose and roadmap long-term designs with clear milestones across quarters About You: 10+ years of backend engineering experience, with a strong focus on computation, performance, database/storage optimization, and systems architecture Experience with parallel execution strategies, caching strategies, and the trade-offs involved in remote data warehouse computation. Strong systems thinker with solid intuitions around storage, database performance, algorithms, and data structures A track record of solving difficult, large-scale systems design problems involving significant data and operational complexity — writing code and reviewing code of your teammates The ability to move from abstract, vague problems to well-articulated, well-reasoned technical solutions — and to roadmap ambitious designs with clear milestones across quarters A strong communicator; comfortable leading technical work and collaborating across a remote-first team Python and/or TypeScript required; experience with both is a plus Nice to have: Working knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker and cloud infrastructure Some frontend experience — this is a backend-focused role, but a willingness to occasionally wire a feature all the way through is a plus This role is fully remote anywhere within the US Eastern timezone, with the option to work from our NYC office. Our stack Our product is a web-based notebook and app authoring platform. Our frontend is built with Typescript and React, using a combination of Apollo GraphQL and Redux for managing application state and data. On the backend, we also use Typescript to power an Express/Apollo GraphQL server that interacts with Postgres, Redis, and Kubernetes to manage our database and Python kernels. Our backend is tightly integrated with our infrastructure and CI/CD, where we use a combination of Terraform, Helm, and AWS to deploy and maintain our stack. In addition to our unique culture, Hex proudly offers a competitive total rewards package, including but not limited to, market-benched salary & equity, comprehensive health benefits, and flexible paid time off. The salary range for this role is: $221,250 - $348,500 The salary range shown may be a reflection of additional factors such as geographical location and skill ranges/levels we’re open to. Manage end-to-end product marketing including positioning, GTM strategy, and launch execution. | 4+ years product marketing experience with technical AI fluency and proven product launch ownership. | About the role We're hiring a Senior Product Marketer to own a product domain of Hex end-to-end. That means you'll be the marketing brain from the earliest product conversations through launch, and then through the long tail of enablement, assets, and campaign work that makes a launch really matter. The PMM team at Hex is structured around full-stack product marketers, each owning a slice of the product with latitude to shape how it's positioned, launched, sold, and sustained. The team operates as an open forum, collaborative, curious about each other's work, and oriented around helping each other move fast. We ship a ton of capabilities and we're opinionated about narrative. You'll work closely with our content lead, evangelist, customer marketer, and partner marketer to build a go-to-market strategy, launch plan, and assets to bring the product to life in the market. What you will own: Become the GM of your product domain. Partner with PM and engineering from concept through ship. Your goal is for both the product team and the field to feel like they have a real partner - someone who keeps them connected, keeps them moving, and keeps them from being out of sync. Ship launches that actually land. Some will be blockbuster tier-one moments; others will be precision drops in a sustained drumbeat. You own the tiering, the playbook, and the full asset coverage - positioning, launch content, web updates, so every release in your domain ships complete, not scrambled. That includes written content, email, social, and creative video, and we're always looking for someone who brings new ideas to the format. Build enablement that the field actually uses. Our SEs and AEs are world-class but stretched. They rely on PMM for competitive analysis, demo guidance, and talk tracks. The measure of success isn't that you made the assets, it's that AEs and SEs adopt them, use them in the field, and tell you they helped. Keep your surface area current. Website pages, sales decks, solution briefs, demo environments, when something ships or shifts, you make sure our customer-facing view of the product stays up to date. Without this, customers fall out of sync with what we offer and why. Sustain the story after the launch. Launches aren't the end of the work, they're the beginning. You'll partner with content and the evangelist to keep your story alive in social, in customer-facing collateral, at events, and in analyst conversations. Be a voice in the market. We expect PMMs to write under their own name, take POVs, and shape how this category gets talked about, not just produce internal docs. About You: 4+ years in product marketing at a fast-moving product company. You've owned a meaningful surface area before and you have the launch portfolio and field impact to show for it. A storyteller with an operational backbone. Strong writing is non-negotiable, you should be the person others want eyes on their copy. But you also build the repeatable systems behind the story: the launch playbook, the enablement BOM, the process that makes the next launch faster than the last. Genuine fluency in AI, not just the marketing of it, but what the models can do, where they fall short, and what that means for the buyers we're talking to. Someone who's been on the cutting edge, created content around it, and can credibly shape how we talk about it. Comfort with ambiguity, opinion, and pace. You'll have backing and autonomy in equal measure. Bonus points Experience marketing AI-native or AI-augmented products A background in or near analytics, BI, or developer tools A real point of view on the current moment in B2B marketing and what to do about it A story about a launch or enablement program you systematized - something complex you made simple and scalable What this role isn't A launch specialist who hands off at the GTM moment. A pure storyteller without an operational backbone. Someone who thinks their job is to "define the strategy" and then have others do the real work. Someone who guards role boundaries. You'll regularly stretch into adjacent territory, that's not the exception, that's the job. This role will be hybrid (2-3 days per week in office) based out of our San Francisco or NYC office. In addition to our unique culture, Hex proudly offers a competitive total rewards package, including but not limited to, market-benched salary & equity, comprehensive health benefits, and flexible paid time off. The OTE (base + variable pay) range for this role is: $160,000 - $205,000. The salary range shown may be a reflection of additional factors such as geographical location and skill ranges/levels we’re open to. Placement in the salary range will be decided upon completion of the interview process, taking into account factors like leaving room for growth, internal fairness & parity, your demonstrated skills, and the depth of your experience.
