Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Environmental due diligence, regulatory compliance services, and permitting; • Evaluate brownfields and other contaminated sites and develop risk-based corrective action measures, remediation approaches, feasibility studies, removal action work plans, and remediation design plans; • Implement remedial pilot tests and systems, including vendor selection, logistical coordination, permitting, and supervision of field teams; • Task and project management, including planning and implementing investigation and remediation projects, design and implementation, trouble shooting and optimization of remediation engineering projects, budgeting and budget management, adherence to schedule, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability; • Management and mentoring of junior staff and managing subcontractors; • Work plan development, data evaluation, and report writing; • Prepare technical reports, letters, memoranda, plans, specifications, and proposals; • Agency coordination with federal, state and local regulatory agencies; • Data analysis, including preparing maps, tables, and figures; • Review and manage written document production; • Prepare for and participate in meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties; • Business development; including bringing in new clients and obtaining repeat business from existing clients, leading proposal preparation, and developing and implementing a business development plan; and • At times, job may also include fieldwork including multi-media environmental sampling, sediment sampling and characterization, drilling oversight, contractor oversight, and remediation system operations, maintenance, and construction. • Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed. Education and Licensure • Bachelor's degree in geology or environmental, civil, or chemical engineering. (required) • Advanced degree in geology or environmental engineering. (preferred) • Professional registration obtained or in process (i.e., P.E. or P.G.) (preferred) Skills, Experience and Qualifications • At least 8 years (10+ preferred) of direct environmental consulting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required) • Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams. (required) • Demonstrated success in the development and management of clients. (preferred) • Proven leadership skills. (required) • Willingness to learn and succeed in business development. • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, meeting strict deadlines, and traveling to client facilities as needed. (required) • Current OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER training and refreshers. (preferred) • Regular field work and overnight travel. (required) • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required. • Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. The position offers the opportunity to apply geotechnical engineering academic knowledge to real-world situations while also learning the business skills needed for a successful consulting career. The position is part-time (20 hours/week) for approximately 6 months. Preferred candidates would have the ability to return to the position for up to two additional semester rotations during their undergraduate or graduate studies. Candidates are responsible for coordinating their own transportation to and from the office. Local travel or driving to project sites as needed. Drive personal, company, and rental vehicles to client or company project or office sites, and other business locations, as needed. Education and Licensure Currently registered in a Bachelor’s or Master’s university degree program in a relevant engineering discipline. (required) Degree focus area in civil, geotechnical, or environmental engineering. (preferred) Skills, Experience and Qualifications Experience with ArcView, CADD, GIS, and/or Microsoft Office. (preferred) Outstanding academic credentials and exceptional interpersonal, technical writing, oral and written communication and problem-solving skills.
