Coordinate national coastal acidification networks and international partnerships while managing data interoperability, uncrewed system assets, and technical working groups. | Requires a bachelor's degree, at least 8 years of professional or academic experience, strong technical writing and data management skills, and eligibility to obtain a federal security clearance. | Overview You understand that the most sophisticated ocean science in the world only matters if the right people — fishermen, coastal managers, policymakers, tribal communities, and researchers — are connected to it, trust it, and can act on it. You have spent your career building the human infrastructure around science: coordinating networks, managing partnerships, cultivating stakeholder relationships across sectors, and translating research into decisions that affect real coastal communities. As the Human Dimensions Research Manager & National CAN Coordinator supporting NOAA's Ocean Acidification Program (OAP) and Global Ocean Monitoring and Observing (GOMO) Program, you will serve as the connective tissue between NOAA's scientific enterprise and the regional, national, and international communities that depend on it. You will lead the operational coordination of the national Coastal Acidification Network (CAN) system — running quarterly assemblies, guiding regional steering groups, and spearheading the development of a new domestic Caribbean CAN — while managing bilateral partnerships, cross-agency working groups, and the early-career mentorship pipelines that build the next generation of ocean science professionals. Your work ensures that NOAA's ocean acidification and monitoring science does not stop at the laboratory door. You will develop and support production web applications, build LLM-powered features, provide on-call support, and meet security requirements for government customers. | The role requires 3–6 years of professional software development experience, TypeScript, React, Python, PostgreSQL, a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, and U.S. citizenship. | Overview FWI is hiring a Software Developer to build and run the web applications our company depends on. You will own production applications end to end: the code, the data, the deployment, and the 2 a.m. fix when something breaks. You will also help move our platforms into Microsoft 365 GCC High and Azure Government so they meet the security requirements of our Department of Defense customers. This is a hands-on builder role, not a maintenance seat. You work directly with the executive who owns our product effort, who writes code and will review yours. You inherit a working portfolio of React and TypeScript applications backed by Python services and PostgreSQL, hosted on serverless cloud infrastructure. The applications serve internal teams and are moving toward customer use. Some integrate with large language model APIs. Several are ready to move from prototype data to live integrations. Harden what exists into production-grade services with monitoring, tests, and clean deployments. Then build the next generation of AI-driven features on top of a compliant foundation. FWI is expanding rapidly and has been recognized as a 2024, 2025 and 2026 Top Workplace, offering excellent growth opportunities in a collaborative environment. Work Schedule and Location: Remote: This full-time remote position will work Monday through Friday. Responsibilities Own production web applications from repository to runtime: feature work, bug fixes, releases, and on-call support. Build and extend React and TypeScript front ends and Python back-end services on PostgreSQL. Replace prototype data with live integrations to third-party and government data APIs. Design and ship features built on large language model APIs, from retrieval and structured output through agentic workflows. Stand up the basics that make software trustworthy: automated tests, CI/CD, logging, monitoring, backups, and documented runbooks. Write documentation a non-developer can follow. This is a writing company. Sit with the people who use the applications, learn how they work, then build what they actually need. Prototype fast, measure, and kill what does not work. Qualifications Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience. 3-6 years of professional software development, with at least 2 years supporting applications in production for real users. Strong TypeScript and React. Comfortable in Python. Solid SQL and schema design on PostgreSQL. Experience deploying and operating cloud applications on at least two major cloud (Azure, AWS, or GCP), including serverless or containerized services. Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Azure identity (Entra ID, conditional access, role-based access control) or a strong desire to learn it fast. Hands-on experience building with large language model APIs: prompt design, retrieval, structured output, evaluation. Git-based workflow, code review, and automated testing as habits, not aspirations. Clear written communication. You can explain a design decision to a non-technical colleague in one paragraph. US. citizenship. Curiosity and ownership. You would rather figure it out than wait for a ticket.
