Lead Risk Analytics Data Scientist

ExtendAnywhereFull-time
View Job
Compensation$70K - 120K a year

Lead design and implementation of pricing and risk monitoring for product offerings, build data foundation for risk analytics, and advise senior leadership on loss ratios. | 5+ years in actuarial pricing or risk analytics with proficiency in SQL, Python/R, modern data stacks, bachelor's degree required, actuarial certifications preferred. | About Extend: Extend is revolutionizing the post-purchase experience for retailers and their customers by providing merchants with AI-driven solutions that enhance customer satisfaction and drive revenue growth. Our comprehensive platform offers automated customer service handling, seamless returns/exchange management, end-to-end automated fulfillment, and product protection and shipping protection alongside Extend's best-in-class fraud detection. By integrating leading-edge technology with exceptional customer service, Extend empowers businesses to build trust and loyalty among consumers while reducing costs and increasing profits. Today, Extend works with more than 1,000 leading merchant partners across industries, including fashion/apparel, cosmetics, furniture, jewelry, consumer electronics, auto parts, sports and fitness, and much more. Extend is backed by some of the most prominent technology investors in the industry, and our headquarters is in downtown San Francisco. About the Role: You'll join our centralized Risk, Analytics & Data Science team at Extend, where you'll play an essential role in the risk monitoring process for our product protection and shipping protection offerings. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to help Extend maintain a healthy loss ratio through premium changes, underwriting process and claims initiatives. A great opportunity to convert your analytics expertise into business impact by supporting measurement of unit economics to feed strong business decisions. You will also be partnering with the cross functional teams (Product / Program, Revenue / Sales, etc.) to develop appropriate premiums for new coverages and product categories. This isn't a "maintain the existing model" role. You'll be involved from the moment a new merchant deal is being negotiated, through program design, all the way to launch. You also have the opportunity to take ownership of data architecture for the Risk Analytics function. We've invested heavily in modern data infrastructure and AI tooling, and we want someone who's excited to actually use them. If you enjoy autonomy and the freedom to build your own pricing infrastructure, you’ll thrive on our team. If you enjoy working with data and analytical tools / models and have always wanted to get more involved on the business side — this role is for you. What You Will Be Doing: As a core member of the Risk Analytics function of Extend, you will Price deals no one has priced before. Every time Extend enters a new merchant category, such as a new product type, a new vertical, or a partnership being negotiated right now, there's no existing model to hand you. You'll design the premium structure from first principles, figure out how to validate it when the data is thin, and own it through launch. The work is genuinely unsolved, and the decisions are yours to make. Turn a monitoring function into a decision engine. We know what our loss ratios are. What leadership needs is to know what to do about them: which claims initiatives to pursue, which premiums to adjust, which programs to renegotiate. You'll build the tooling that makes that call possible, and you'll be the person making the recommendation. Own the risk narrative with senior leadership. When the loss ratio moves, you're the one who explains why and what comes next, to an audience that includes the C-suite. If you've wanted more visibility than your current role gives you, this one puts you in that room. Build the data foundation for Risk Analytics — and make it yours. We have dbt and Snowflake. What we don't have is a fully built Risk Analytics layer sitting on top of it. You'll design the data models, set the standards, and shape how this function works for the next several years. If you've ever inherited an architecture you wished you could rebuild from scratch, this is the rare opportunity to build it right the first time. Actually use AI to change how the team works. Not as a buzzword, but as a working practice. We use Claude heavily. For this role, that means finding the places in the risk analytics workflow where a manual step shouldn't be manual, automating it, and raising the floor on what the team can produce. You'll have latitude to experiment and the expectation that you will. What We’re Looking For: Strong analytical and data skills spanning SQL, Python or R, pipeline development and data modeling (dbt, Snowflake), and visualization tools such as Tableau or Streamlit. 5+ years of experience working on actuarial pricing, predictive modeling or other Risk Analytics related areas Ability to dive deep into data and communicate insights to audiences of all backgrounds, especially to teams with less data & analytics experience Relevant Actuarial experience (such as Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS) or equivalent exam experience) preferred but not required Excited and passionate about the new AI tools (Claude, Gemini, etc.) and eager to learn how that can help improve our day-to-day efficiency Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field Ability and interest in thinking beyond the insurance organization, considering the challenges of other teams, and prioritizing what is best for the business holistically, is essential Empathy, humility, and curiosity Expected Pay Range: $125,000 - $155,000 per year salaried* * The target base salary range for this position is listed above. Individual salaries are determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills and experience. Life at Extend: Working with a great team from diverse backgrounds in a collaborative and supportive environment. Senior AI Software Engineer, Internal Enablement

ExtendAnywhereFull-time
View Job
Compensation$90K - 150K a year

Design and ship secure MCP connectors and agent skills enabling intelligent automation with security and observability. | 5+ years shipping production systems with proficiency in Python, TypeScript, or Rust, deep AI agent frameworks, AWS serverless, and security/credential management. About the Role: We are hiring a Senior AI Software Engineer to change the way we work with AI across the whole company. Extend thinks AI has reached a level of usefulness and sophistication that we are preparing to build coding tools for all the non-engineering roles in the company. We want you to be part of the team that provides the engineering rigor to make this platform reliable, secure, and easy to use. Over the next six months we are standing up MCP connectors to the systems we run on, a shared library of agent skills every team composes from, and the infrastructure that turns a one-off prototype into durable tooling. You will build that platform — and the security model it ships with. Credentials vended to agents, code generated by LLMs and executed locally, connectors bridging internal systems to third-party applications and systems: every connector and skill you ship has to be secure by default, because there is no security escort coming behind you. What You'll Do: Design and ship secure MCP (Model Context Protocol) connectors to Extend's internal systems and the third-party SaaS we run on: finance, CRM, data warehouse, expense management, product analytics, support, ATS, and the long tail beyond. Build and curate the shared library of agent skills that every team at Extend composes from. Ship skills, codify patterns, and raise the floor for what a safe, high-quality skill looks like. Extend our agent infrastructure. Build the tooling that lets non-engineers create reusable agent skills securely and reliably. Encode the review and publishing model for shared tooling, shared runtimes, and the feedback loop on agent behavior in production. Fill the open phases of the lifecycle that governs how skills are designed, reviewed, and shipped, so non-engineers can build and ship intelligent automation end to end. Build toward a connector-building agent: a meta-agent that discovers APIs, scaffolds MCP servers, and provisions access automatically. The end state is a platform that is itself an agent. Work with our platform teams to establish the credential scoping, OpenTelemetry instrumentation, and least-privilege patterns that every connector and skill ships with, so security is built in from day one. Own the employee experience for the agentic platform. Help onboard employees to the tools with self-serve guides, build skills people can learn from, and run the feedback loop between what's shipped and what adopters actually need. Your job isn't done when the connector ships. It's done when the team using it is self-sufficient. Design credential scoping and vending for agent connectors: how API keys are provisioned, rotated, and scoped per user, per skill, per connector. OAuth/OIDC where it fits, least-privilege everywhere. Build the risk-tier and review model for shared agent skills: what's safe at personal, team, and org level; sandboxing strategy; malicious dependency scanning for skills that pull in untrusted packages. Instrument the agent platform end-to-end with OpenTelemetry: every MCP call, every skill execution, every credential use is visible in Coralogix. What We're Looking For: You've shipped production systems and can point to the seams: where they held under load, where they broke, and what you changed. Five or more years of that. Proficient in at least one of Python, TypeScript/Node, or Rust. You've built developer tooling, platforms, SDKs, or internal frameworks that other engineers depended on. You measure that work by adoption, not by what shipped. You can build a real third-party integration: OAuth flows, credential scoping, webhook handling, pagination, rate limiting, retry semantics. Production connectors, not tutorial work. Comfortable on AWS. We run on Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, and a managed agent runtime. You don't need to be an infra specialist, but you need to be at home. You've made complex systems usable by non-experts, whether through DevX work or internal tools that non-engineers actually adopted and relied on. You live and breathe AI tooling every day. Direct experience with Claude Code, MCP, or another agent framework (LangChain, CrewAI, AutoGen, OpenAI Agents SDK). Familiarity with using different agent harnesses/orchestrators for complex coding tasks and the process of building new agents. You've built production credential management: OAuth 2.0/OIDC, API key vending, secret rotation, least-privilege scoping. You understand that security that can be bypassed isn't security. Strong AWS security fundamentals: IAM, KMS, Lambda surface, serverless attack patterns. You don't need to be a security specialist, but you ship code that doesn't need a security escort. Nice to Have: Experience with AWS CDK, CloudFormation, or similar infrastructure-as-code. Experience with OpenTelemetry, Coralogix, or equivalent observability tooling. Background in platform engineering, internal developer platforms (IDPs), or enterprise integration. Prior IC role at an early-stage startup with a small team, wide surface area, and high pace. Experience with LLM application security: OWASP LLM Top 10, prompt injection defense, agent sandboxing. Background in supply chain security, dependency scanning, or SBOM tooling. Expected Pay Range: $160,000 - $180,000 per year salaried* * The target base salary range for this position is listed above. Individual salaries are determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, job-related knowledge, skills and experience. Life at Extend: Working with a great team from diverse backgrounds in a collaborative and supportive environment. Competitive salary based on experience, with full medical and dental & vision benefits. Stock in an early-stage startup growing quickly.
