About the Role: We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer & Team Lead with 8+ years of experience to guide the design, modernization, and operational reliability of our large-scale technology platforms. This individual will split time between hands-on engineering and technical leadership — mentoring a team of engineers while driving enterprise-wide modernization initiatives across hybrid AWS and Azure environments. The ideal candidate combines deep site reliability engineering (SRE) expertise, a security-first architectural mindset, and fluency in modern automation and AI-enabled engineering practices. Requirements Roles & Responsibilities: Technical Leadership & Team Management Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers, setting technical direction, conducting code reviews, and supporting career development. Partner with product, architecture, and security stakeholders to align engineering execution with business objectives. Evaluate legacy systems and recommend modernization strategies that balance risk, cost, and business continuity. Site Reliability Engineering Own reliability engineering practices including SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, incident response, on-call rotations, and constructive after-action plans Design for high availability, scalability, and disaster recovery across distributed, multi-cloud systems. Build observability and monitoring capabilities to proactively identify and resolve system risks. Cloud, Automation & AI Architect and implement solutions across AWS and Azure, including multi-cloud and hybrid-cloud environments. Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipelines using Terraform, Ansible, and GitHub Actions. Champion adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools and practices to improve developer productivity and operational efficiency. Automate manual operational processes to reduce toil and improve system reliability. Security-Driven Architecture Embed security-by-design principles into architecture and development of lifecycles. Conduct and act on static/dynamic application security testing using tools such as Veracode. Ensure compliance with organizational security, governance, and risk management standards across cloud and on-premises environments. Required Professional Skills: 8+ years of professional software/systems engineering experience, including experience in a technical team lead capacity. Demonstrated success leading large-scale modernization/transformation programs. Strong background in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices and principles. Hands-on expertise across AWS and Azure, including multi-cloud and hybrid-cloud architecture and design. Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code and automation tools: Terraform and Ansible. Experience building CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions. Familiarity with application security testing tools such as Veracode, and security-driven architecture practices. Strong scripting/automation skills (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell). Excellent communication, mentorship, and stakeholder management skills. Preferred Professional Skills: Relevant certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or equivalent. Manage desktop engineering and endpoint systems for Windows, macOS, and Linux, including adoption and governance of the Microsoft Intune Endpoint Management platform. Oversee lifecycle support, patching, configuration control, and compliance for scientific computing devices and Special Purpose Equipment (SPE). Direct network operations, including routing, switching, firewalls, DMZ environments, load balancers, and coordination with CIT network services.
