Job Description The Mechanical Engineer is an entry-level position and performs their job functions under the direct supervision of a project’s Engineer-of-Record and/or Lead Mechanical Engineer. Mechanical engineering focuses on the design and engineering of HVAC, mechanical utility, (plumbing, fire protection), and other building support systems into the built work environment. Typical tasks and deliverables include load calculations, utility assessments, energy modeling, design reports, code evaluations, plans, schedules, installation details, specification and coordination with manufacturers and trade partners. The Mechanical Engineer IV will serve as a technical leader and mentor, overseeing the work of junior and senior engineers and designers. Depending on the project, this role may serve as the Lead Mechanical Engineer or Senior Mechanical Engineer, with responsibilities tailored accordingly. Key Responsibilities • Lead the mechanical discipline on projects of varying size and complexity, managing scope, budget, and schedule. • Act as Engineer-of-Record and direct the work of mechanical engineering and design staff. • Develop and review technical documentation including: • Load calculations, utility assessments, and energy modeling • Design reports, code evaluations, and equipment specifications • P&IDs, plans, schedules, and installation details • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a fully integrated and constructible design. • Conduct and lead field surveys, identify non-compliant conditions, and support field reporting. • Provide advanced support during construction, including RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch list development, and progress reporting. • Drive quality assurance through document reviews and technical verification. • Mentor and train less experienced engineers and designers. • Lead system design programming and master planning efforts. • Support proposal development, task planning, and project scheduling in collaboration with Project Managers. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering (mechanical focus) from an ABET-accredited program. • PE (Professional Engineer) license in good standing. • Minimum of 10 years of experience for Lead Mechanical Engineer roles. • Minimum of 15 years of experience for Senior Mechanical Engineer roles. • Advanced experience in HVAC, mechanical utility, and piping system design and implementation. • Strong knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and building codes. Preferred Qualifications • Experience in life sciences (pharmaceutical, biotech, laboratory) or food & beverage industries. • Advanced knowledge of GMP manufacturing environments. • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite. • LEED, WELL, or other sustainable design credentials or experience. • Familiarity with industry standards such as ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISPE, FDA, ISO, NFPA, and OSHA. • Advanced experience in plumbing design and field survey leadership. • Experience using Revit plugins (e.g., Enscape, Unifi) and parametric tools (e.g., Dynamo, Grasshopper, Rhino). • Strong coordination skills with cross-discipline teams, vendors, and construction partners. • Intermediate experience troubleshooting mechanical systems. • Ability to develop and deliver internal training presentations. • Willingness to travel for client development, project execution, and training opportunities. The pay range for a candidate selected for this position who is based in Denver is typically $128,906 to $206,250 annually. The base salary range represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position. The selected candidate’s actual pay will be based on various factors, including but not limited to work location, qualifications, and relevant experience.
