As a Quality Engineering Intern at Cleveland-Cliffs, the projects assigned will vary based on the intern’s education level and plant location, but will generally reflect the duties outlined below. Summary of Responsibilities: • Complete monthly safety inspections and safety observations for the Metallurgical Department.  • Work safely and assure plant safety policies are followed.        • Manage workflow in the mechanical and chemical test lab.       • Manage test equipment calibrations.  • Create new operating efficiencies to maintain the production, testing, and shipping of steel with a leaner workforce.  • Maintain Steelmaking spectrometer lab, calibration, and on-call support.       • Responsible for data-mining investigations with metallurgical grade performance, chemistry, scrap charges, etc.        • Responsible for Metallurgical grade maintenance and development.   • Manage 3rd party testing inspection.     • Maintain tracking of Steelmaking scrap, referral, and diversions.       • Responsible for Metallurgical investigations.  Minimum Qualifications: • Enrollment in Bachelor of Science program in the field of Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or other related technical degree • Completion of at least sophomore year of study by the summer of 2026 Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. The Shift Manager of Operations is responsible for the safe operation of the facility. This position prioritizes, assigns, directs, and reviews the work of Plant Operators and the control room based on standard work and process conditions across the facility. The role actively involves participating with all site personnel on shifts to optimize plant production. Summary of Responsibilities: Demonstrate safe work practices and lead work safely. Gather information from previous supervisor(s) and crew and use the information to create a shift plan. Plan and prioritize work assignments from the weekly work order packet daily. Perform shift toolbox huddle, communicate shift plan, task assignments, shift operating parameters, and any special tasks required. Monitor and inspect the quality of completed work assignments. Complete shift inspection of crew member areas, inspecting the quality and completeness of work assignments. Write and close out work orders for the crew, ensuring job hours are accurately reflected in tasks assigned. Document shift performance for crew, work achieved, and key process parameters for handover to other operating personnel. Understand significant deviations from the department’s operating plan and make changes to correct and implement sustainable solutions to deviations. Ensure incoming oxide and outgoing products are unloaded and loaded as efficiently as possible. Make recommendations on quality improvement initiatives, communicate the priority of process improvement work to subordinates, and monitor that the process improvement work is completed. Coordinate plans, projects, and programs to achieve the desired results in safety, quality, production, cost, and environmental performance. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma 3-5 years of experience in a heavy industrial, hydrocarbon, or mining environment. Experience supervising maintenance employees in a heavy manufacturing environment. Microsoft Office experience (Excel, Word, etc.) Ability to work under minimal supervision and effectively manage multiple/changing priorities. Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) experience; Ellipse preferred. Reasonable mechanical aptitude (preferably with experience in pipe materials, specifications, fittings, seals, water piping/pumping systems, compressible fluid piping/pumping systems, welding, conveying equipment, gearing/bearings/power transmission). Ability to work under minimal supervision and effectively manage multiple/changing priorities. Routinely exposed to plant environment including noise, dust, dirt and vibrations, extreme climate changes/weather changes. Ability to work shift work. This individual will be responsible for ensuring the laboratory work is completely safety, accurately, and timely to deliver quality products to our customers.
