Negotiate vendor pricing, manage inventory strategy, and develop assortment strategies to optimize product positioning and profit margins. | Minimum 5 years experience in price negotiations, strong distribution and inventory management knowledge, bachelor's degree preferred, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and strong stakeholder management skills. | As a Market Sourcing Manager, you will be responsible for overall management of vendor negotiations and price setting of non-consumable products related to Grocery, Food Service, Janitorial and Processor business segments. Brand strategy, private label, and sustainable packaging product lines are important strategies managed by this position and integral to success in the role. In this role you will be an inventory strategy expert. Our National Category Manager team identifies our national core product list, which is the backbone of our inventory. As a Market Sourcing Manager, you will fill out the rest of our inventory with items required and acquired at the regional level. Can we get a core item, more efficiently from a local vendor? We need a specific item for a regional customer; who are we going to buy that from and at what terms?  What are inventory and reorder thresholds for those items? How can we further lower margin on inventory by adding specific local inventory items as a preferred items for multiple local customers?  These are the types of questions you'll make decisions on daily.  This role is onsite in our Kansas City, MO  office,  M-F - day shift. There is some flexibility to work from home 1-2 days per month if needed.  Responsibilities: * Negotiate price and terms with manufacturers and suppliers. * Product selection and sourcing. * Develop market expertise that allows the organization to effectively compete in target market segments; this includes market trends and competitive analysis, as inputs to the development of our assortment strategy. * Monitor market intelligence, local needs and trends, competitive products, and the changing production schedules of approved manufacturers to improve competitive pricing & positioning. * Develop product pricing policies and negotiate best cost vendor programs to improve product positioning while improve margin. * Rationalize and consolidate product lines to improve inventory turns and create volume cost improvement opportunities. * Manage on-going supplier relationships and execute supplier performance management initiatives in accordance with standards and guidelines and in collaboration with business partners. * Manage multiple projects and initiatives with the ability to meet defined timelines and provide proactive status communication to business partners. * Work with sales staff with special product requirements and costing. Work to improve go-to-market strategy and speed. * Problem solving and recommending new and different packaging products as they become available. Requirements: * High school diploma or equivalent required * Bachelor’s degree, strongly preferred * Master’s degree preferred. * 5+ years’ experience in price negotiations is required and influencing stakeholders at all levels. * Knowledge of the distribution environment, inventory management systems, and supplier selection and qualification processes (ideally in food service, janitorial or packaging) * Product knowledge across multiple industries a definite plus. * Strong business and financial acumen * Strong user level Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Excel, TEAMs) * Ability to create excellent relationships and quickly gain credibility with internal and external stakeholders. * Possess strong planning, organizational and time management skills, as well as strong analytical problem-solving skills. * Multi-task with the ability to change direction quickly and often. WHAT YOU’LL DO DRIVE PROFITABILITY & BUSINESS PERFORMANCE * Lead sourcing strategies that improve margins, reduce costs, and support overall business growth. * Identify opportunities for cost savings, supplier optimization, and product conversion initiatives. * Analyze pricing, market trends, supplier costs, and competitive data to maximize profitability. * Partner with Sales and Operations teams on customer quotes, bids, and strategic pricing opportunities. * Support private label and import initiatives designed to enhance customer value and improve margins. * Monitor and report on key sourcing and profitability metrics. Build and Manage Vendor Relationships * Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with suppliers and manufacturers. * Lead supplier negotiations including pricing, rebates, payment terms, contracts, and promotional programs. * Conduct vendor reviews focused on performance, service levels, quality, innovation, and cost. * Evaluate and onboard new suppliers to support business objectives and customer requirements. * Hold vendors accountable for quality, delivery performance, and compliance expectations. * Collaborate with suppliers to identify new products, sourcing opportunities, and market trends. Lead Sourcing, Quoting & Product Management Activities * Manage sourcing projects from supplier identification through implementation. * Support customer quotations, RFPs, and bid requests by securing competitive pricing and product solutions. * Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure product availability and inventory alignment. * Review supplier proposals, product specifications, and market opportunities to recommend sourcing decisions. * Utilize data and analytics to make informed purchasing and sourcing recommendations. * Involved in the development and execution of category and product line strategies. Lead and Develop a High-Performing Team * Provide leadership, coaching, and development for the sourcing team. * Establish clear goals, priorities, and performance expectations. * Foster collaboration across Sales, Customer Service, Purchasing, Operations, and Accounting teams. * Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer focus. * Support employee training, professional development, and succession planning. * Lead special projects and strategic initiatives that support company objectives. What We’re Looking For * High school diploma or equivalent required * Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Procurement, or related field preferred. * 5+ years of sourcing, procurement, purchasing, supply chain, or category management experience. * Experience within distribution, convenience store, foodservice, retail, or related industries is preferred. * Previous leadership or management experience preferred. * Strong experience negotiating supplier agreements, pricing, and contract terms. * Experience managing vendor relationships and driving supplier performance. * Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify opportunities. * Experience supporting customer quotes, bids, and pricing initiatives. * Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel required; experience with Power BI strongly preferred. * Experience with AS400 is a plus. * Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills. * Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
