START/END DATE: January 2026 through May 2026 WORK REQUIREMENTS: Part-time/Approximately 20 hours per weekSALARY: $17.95/hourLOCATION: This internship is an office-based, on site-position located in Washington, DCCurrently operating under a hybrid model: 3 days remote/2 days in office JOB SUMMARY Reporting to the Director of Government Relations-Policy & Advocacy, the Government Relations & Advocacy Intern will support the Federal Government Relations and Advocacy departments including research, planning andexecution of events and campaigns, and other core team responsibilities related to the organization and its mission. LEARNING OUTCOMES Understand the inner workings of the DC nonprofit government relations, public policy, and advocacy systems. How to execute and manage advocacy strategies How to build and manage meaningful relationships with key stakeholders to the benefit of the program and mission How to use essential advocacy tools and software How to meet challenges, overcome obstacles, and work in a dynamic team environment How to develop stewardship communication skills Responsibilities Coordinate and track visits Members of Congress and state officials conduct and/or interact with Boys & Girls Clubs Research legislation and regulatory comments important to Boys & Girls Clubs at a national, state, and local level; Conduct web-based and other research as needed on BGCA legislative issues. Attend coalition meetings, Capitol Hill visits, and Congressional hearings on behalf of BGCA Create and update critical biographical and background information on Members of Congress and stakeholders. Assist with planning and support of BGCA’s fly-ins and/or other Government Relations events. Support distribution of weekly press clips and other thought leadership opportunities. Assist with production and editing of government relations & advocacy materials and internal documents. Support collection of relevant Club and youth stories related to BGCA priority issues to further enhance BGCA advocacy efforts. Prepare blogs for BGCA.org advocacy page around Club advocacy actions. Perform basic clerical tasks, including word processing, copying, mailing, filing, managing routine office business, and provide other program, administrative, and organization-wide support as needed/assigned. Other related/comparable duties as assigned. Qualifications Education & Experience Currently enrolled at an undergraduate 2 or 4 year college/university or equivalent work experience Basic understanding and interest in advocacy, government relations, public policy & legislative procedure strongly encouraged Interest in nonprofit and youth development Strong interest in project management in nonprofit environments Skill-set Strong computer skills and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, SharePoint, etc.). Strong verbal and written communications skills including proofreading, copy editing, writing, and oral communication skills An ability to manage time appropriately. Demonstrated professionalism and maturity and a tolerance for rapid pace and shifting assignments and priorities Flexibility, good judgement, attention to detail A demonstrated commitment and interest in the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of America An ability to adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in BGCA's Intern Policy, Ethics Policy and elsewhere. JOB SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Director of Operations, Texas , the Grant Manager is responsible for the management of and support of assigned grant programs. This position is solely grant funded, the continuation of the position is contingent on the renewal of funding. Responsibilities ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Collaborate with individual Club organizations to ensure they meet the requirements for assigned Alliance grant(s) program funding. Ensure the timely, accurate and professional preparation of all funder and Club correspondence, reports, spreadsheets to meet the needs of the assigned Alliance grant(s). Create and track budgets for assigned Alliance grants. Lead and oversee the development of monthly billing and required reporting for assigned grants, including all invoices, PO’s and check requests and ensure they are written and submitted in a timely manner Lead and oversee the implementation of procedures to train, support and monitor Club sites’ operation of assigned grants. Maintain accurate grant program records, both physical and electronic, to ensure adequate documentation is available at all times that demonstrates responsible use of grant funds Support the Alliance Program Quality Manager with training needs and development Support other grant program administration needs as assigned, including data collection, reporting, tracking and monitoring programs Develop recommendations for process improvements for assigned grants. Develop and maintain positive and professional relationships with state agency and partners as well as local Club staff Assess and develop/lead training activities to support staff development for assigned grant(s). Assist Alliance and Operations Director(s) in other related special projects, as assigned, including the All State All Staff Training and Legislative Day Assist the Director of Operations and Alliance Executive Director in other related special projects as assigned. Adhere to organizational policies and procedures as described in the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Capital Area’s Employee Handbook, BGCA's Ethics Policy and elsewhere SUPERVISION EXERCISED No direct Reports. May monitor and coordinate the work of temporary employees and student interns Qualifications ​​EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE ​Associates degree and minimum of five years’ work experience in non-profit program management or an equivalent combination of experience and education. ​Minimum five years of experience in complex project management, managing operations and administrative tasks. ​ABILITIES ​High energy, motivated, confident, and creative; great attention to detail and accuracy in reports; ability to work for prolonged periods at high levels of activity, standing up and bending over; managing multiple tasks with varying deadlines; ability to exchange clearly and concisely, ideas and facts, both verbal and written. ​SKILLS ​Must be a team player with demonstrated collaboration skills including computer literacy using Microsoft Office to maintain databases, spreadsheets, and presentations; exceptional accuracy, grammar and proofreading skills; professional, courteous telephone manners; strong organization and office skills; demonstrated competence in time management and prioritization, handling of multiple tasks, detail and task oriented; strong interpersonal skills, ability to follow complex verbal and written instructions.
