Role Title: Senior Communications Manager/ Communications Officer Role Nature: Volunteer Location: Home-based The Blockchain & Climate Institute (BCI) is an international volunteer-led think tank, with 160 volunteers from around the world, supporting and advocating the application of blockchain technology in the global fight against climate change. We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic VOLUNTEER to serve as the Senior Communications Manager (unpaid role) to work in the Communications Branch under the External Affairs Bureau. This individual will build and maintain relationships with key public affairs audiences to enhance the influence, reputation, and profile of BCI. The ideal candidate is driven and experienced, and looking to make a difference in international climate change governance. The successful candidate will have experience in public policy, public affairs, and stakeholder engagement with a track record of successfully engaging contacts to meet objectives. Responsibilities: • Working in the BCI External Affairs Bureau – a team consisting of 3 main pillars: The advocacy and Government Relations Branch; and the Communications Branch (covering social media management, branding and design, and video production). The core functions of this role will include but are not limited to the following: • To support the Head of Communications and senior leadership team to engage effectively with senior policymakers and climate negotiators for impactful project opportunities; • To lead lobbying and influencing activities among Heads of State, Ministers, and parliamentarians; and • To identify lessons learned from BCI’s pioneering projects and translate them to guide the decision-making processes. • Building and leading new teams to manage the future External Affairs strategic agenda. This will include: • To hire and manage a team of volunteers within relevant external affairs and public policy landscapes; • To develop and oversee the External Affairs policies; • To support the Head of Communications to work with the ExCo to develop a strategic vision (especially the Chief Strategy Officer and his Strategy Section under the Director-General’s Office)in line with the BCI’s mission; • To manage other ad-hoc cross-institute external affairs as needed such as BCI’s COP26 Work Programmes; • To raise the profile of the BCI among audiences both within and outside the climate change policy community; • To develop and implement the BCI’s communications strategy; • To oversee communications functions including media publicity, corporate website, social media channels, production of materials for the fundraising campaign and the BCI News Service (as the Editor-in-Chief of our monthly feature in the sponsoring magazine); • To help identify conferences and events which would be suitable for BCI’s participation; • Act as a contact at the BCI for media inquiries – Developing and maintaining good media relations. Requirements Skills & Abilities • Excellent oral communication skills (English and a second language would be a big plus), including the ability to develop effective working relationships, work flexibly across professional and operational boundaries, and communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders at all levels; • Close attention to detail; • Excellent organizational skills and ability to balance competing demands under pressure. • Strong depth of knowledge on topics central to the BCI such as climate change, climate finance, and blockchain technology preferred. • A relevant degree or training in Communications, Journalism, or PR is preferred. We are looking to recruit a couple of highly motivated and enthusiastic VOLUNTEERS serving as IT Support Officers to provide support for our computer systems and networks. More experienced candidates will be appointed as Senior IT Support Officers or IT Support Managers. IT Support Officers will also be given exposure to our projects on blockchain, artificial intelligence, and other emerging digital technologies under development. The ideal candidates will be responsible for providing frontline IT support for the BCI Volunteers with their IT requirements. As part of the Technology Officer Grade, the IT Support Officers will be responsible for the smooth running of server systems and ensuring that users get maximum benefits from them. This will include supporting and providing technical assistance to BCI Volunteers that are using software, hardware, or other computer systems and need help completing tasks or troubleshooting problems through diagnostic tests and remote access to their computers. The successful candidates will also be required to test new products, run regular maintenance checks, and keep abreast with information security issues. Responsibilities: • Providing excellent support service to BCI Volunteers; • Participating in troubleshooting and incident resolution activities; • Ensuring performance pledges are met; • Providing a high level of service and seeking ways to continually improve the IT service to BCI Volunteers; • Performing various regular checks and tasks across the Institute's user accounts and performing any required actions; • Producing high-quality documentation and keeping it up-to-date, including the team support knowledge base; • Creating simple solutions / services utilising out-of-the-box functionality, i.e. Office 365; • Maintaining knowledge of Microsoft in order to guide BCI Volunteers appropriately; • Proactively and constantly seeking to learn and improve both self and team; • Identifying where a support request may be a project requirement, capturing technical requirements, and producing a project specification; • Setting up new users' accounts and profiles and dealing with password issues. Working with IT Support Officers and other Web Developers, you will also be given exposure to our projects on blockchain, artificial intelligence, and other emerging digital technologies under development. The ideal candidates will be responsible for providing frontline web support for the BCI. As part of the Technology Officer Grade, the Web Developers will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining BCI's new website.
